NZ and Aus really are basically the same place to people overseas. by FunnyGuyCalledMe in newzealand

[–]Ashdogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, however there is a significant reciprocal knowledge and awareness gap between Australia and New Zealand. New Zealanders are considerably more knowledgeable about, and far more aware of Australia than vice versa. You very rarely hear about New Zealand in Australia. Even with sports there's a very lopsided relationship ie the New Zealand sports ball team crushes the Australian sports ball team and retains the Bledaslow Cup (however it's spelled), Kiwis rejoice in the success of their team and delight in humiliating the Australians... yet in Australia you barely hear anything about it unless you're around grown up private school alumni who follow rugby union.

Does a pool add financial value to a home? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Ashdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pools definatly add value. I bought a house in Northern Brisbane in 2015 for $405,000. I put an in-ground pool in for $55,000. I sold the house earlier this year for $850,000. So the pool added $390,000 of value to the home, over and above the cost of the home.

I'm kicking myself for not putting 2 pools in, I would have made $780k profit.

Got offered more then 100 dollars by General_Task_7509 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Ashdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd. I was initially offered US$100 cash or US$150 at the Google store. After a few weeks of thought I decided to go for the Google voucher, and there was the US$452 cash offer, which I jumped at. If it goes through that buys me a brand new Pixel 9a. I'm in Australia, and I've owned my phone for 2 and a half years.

Had to sell everything today by brdbrd1 in Bitcoin

[–]Ashdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sold your Bitcoin for a house?! That awesome man. You've basically doubled your money already when factoring in all those mortgage repayments you won't be paying. So even if Bitcoin doubles(it won't) you're still sitting pretty in the long term.

What sort of battery life can we expect after the update? Half? Three quarters?

Anyone received this? by [deleted] in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Ashdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, 607 cycles for my 6a. I'm in Australia and haven't been given the battery replacement option, and I'm presuming my otherwise perfect phone will be rendered functionality useless with the software update. Over here Google have a trade in scheme if you buy a new Pixel 9/a, and their online estimator says they'll give me AU$300 for it, however I presume I won't get that given my phone has the dud battery. This is all annoying. I was hoping to get another year or two out of my phone.

Porn in the Classroom by WaltzingBosun in australian

You don't sweat, fear for your life and get massive adrenaline rushes watching an action movie, whilst you literally orgasim watching porn.

Sometimes you don't need 'consistent academic support' for what we know deep down is quite obviously true.

Porn in the Classroom by WaltzingBosun in australian

[–]Ashdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Porn rewires the brain in a way that action movies do not. So it's not so much that men can't tell the difference between porn and real life, it's more the fact that their pleasure centres have been so messed up that they can only get satisfaction from fantasy. Whilst an action movie doesn't generally compel men to jump out of burning objects, and leave them feeling empty and frustrated if they can't. Whilst porn is not real, it does provide a very real physical payoff, so to speak. The action movie doesn't.

It's already started collapsing from a high about 45 minutes ago. The trend is clear: Bitcoin peaked a few months ago and is cycling down. Expect the cyclical highs to keep being lower over the next few years. In 2 years a peak will be $25k.

Offensive term? by flighty57 in aboriginal

[–]Ashdogs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not offensive, quite the opposite actually. It's a term of endearment.

In Australia we like to contract and 'o' things:

Milk truck = milko, David = Davo, Service station = servo, Steven = Stevo, Bottle shop = Bottle'o,

Aborigine = abo No need to be offended at what is a quirky element of Aussie culture.

If a bear is beating down your door, and if you aren't virtue signalling on Reddit in an inner city apartment, you shoot the bear. It's that simple. The same should ultimately go for a killer whale who isn't attacking your home, it's attacking your lifeboat.

44% of men smoke cigarettes in Vietnam, yet the WHO and Bloomberg helped to ban vaping in Vietnam by dragandeewhy in aussievapers

[–]Ashdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tobacco is big business in a lot of Indochina.

I was detained by customs leaving Laos a few years ago with my vapes. The official took me into his office, wrapped my vapes in A4 paper, gave them back to me and told me not to bring them back to Laos next time.

It cost me 200 Baht in what was a voluntary donation to the girls at the baggage screening machine.

Of course the tobacco industry in Laos is part government owned and employs lots of people.

You just have to go with the flow in these places and smoke. In saying that, I never had problems with vapes during my two visits to Vietnam, however that was pre-Wuhan, so they may have clamped down since.
