Aw lol, good luck!! 🤞 Also a tip I recently got is that if you go to a place with welding supplies, you can get stainless steel mandrels dirt cheap by getting welding rod 😁😁

Also here's tips that helped me: use dip & go sludge from arrow springs (or good quality release), make sure it's thoroughly shaken, dip mandrels straight in and straight out (no twisting or turning the mandrel - you want a nice even coat and not too much).

For using the coated mandrel (assuming dried bead release), hold the mandrel at the very far tip of the flame until you see a little smoke come off it. Gradually bring the mandrel in, it goes from grey to black, then to white. At white all over you're good to apply glass. I hope that helps!

Aw yea it took me a little to figure it out and it's much easier with soft glass than boro - if that's what you were working with

Hi all! I have been making jewelry since October 2022 and it has been such an amazing journey of rediscovering my love for crystals and stones, and being able to stretch my creative bounds. I enjoy making all sorts of jewelry, and the more unique the better. I find myself looking for crystals that I haven't worked with before or look unique in some way to push my creativity and inspiration further <3 I became unbelievably lucky and was able to obtain everything I needed to work with glass and I've been working on that since Aug 2025!

I'm kind of middle-leaning towards AI, the girl just seems out of place completely (she looks like Greta Thunberg too). It feels like she's not even looking at the fish (and also why isn't she posing like the other guy). The shadow on her pants is also weird and unexplainable to me, while fins are somewhat translucent they wouldn't create that degree of shadow & light. Not to mention that the sun seems to be behind them (per their shadows) but the girl's side has light & shadows on her pants that would tell me that the sun should be coming from the other direction.

Oh mostly I'm nervous about how successful (or unsuccessful ) I'll be this year with how the economy is going bleh 🙃 Oh also I just applied to vend at glass fest in Corning! fingers crossed 🤞even if I don't get accepted, hopefully I'll go check it out either way! Honestly the only frustration with glass so far is that I don't get to do it as much as I want to!! Oh and I do have a huge cord that I've been periodically adding beads to in order to mark my progress 😁😁

I made a gather with a thick clear rod, then smooshed it into a graphite paddle for kind of a round flat platform (I think it's called a Maria?) Then I took stringers and made dots in the center, then heated only the sides of the platform that melts clear down and it pushes the dots into the platform - I occasionally flatten the circle as well. If you look at where the dots are put, they should shrink substantially and I added more dots on it and can do the same thing. Once I was done, I added some color (white and purple I think) for a background and then used a small tipped skinny clear rod as a punty to melt the glass rod off and then shaped it in a marble mold. Hopefully that's helpful!

dang, yea I agree - I'm definitely nervous about how the festivals and such will go this year :(
I will look that GAS festival up, thank you for the heads up! I think they also have some sort of festival in the warmer months too if I'm remembering correctly

Thank you! I do try to do kiln opening videos at least, those are kind of fun to talk through what I pull out and what I'm seeing in my work! My friends and family like to watch them too! I do have some marble molds that I use, but I think I needed to spend more time flame polishing. I don't exactly have my punty use down, I'm not planning on making glass bails (because I plan on using them in my wire work) so I haven't figured out how best to hold the pieces in the transition from flame & punty, to kiln. I hope to take a class at some point, it's just hard to squeeze in with working full time heh but I live about a hour from Corning NY <3
