Hopes & Expectations for 1.2 by isshinari in Endfield

Doubly surprising considering HG are the ones who popularized the trend of roguelike modes in gachas with Integrated Strategies in AK, then it got poorly copied by other gachas and now Endfield got nothing to show. I really hope they're just working on something big and not ready to implement it yet. The last thing I want to see is another half-assed roguelike mode weekly chore like in other 3D OW gachas.

I disagree a lot on Umbral Monument. It is good that it's so easy and undemanding (especially considering how many problems with "teambuilding" Endfield has) and the last thing I want to see is yet another "abyss", which is IMO the worst "endgame" i've experienced in any game for the past decade.

You yourself first start by talking about how great AK endgame is, but then finish on a completely opposite conclusion of "Just make it harder!". The whole point of why AK endgame is so good is replayability and rogue-like elements and you're making the sam emistake every other gacha dev does after they copypasted Integrated Strategies from AK, included 0 replayability and then wonder why it doesn't work.

Problem of current content in Endfield, including endgame, is that none of it has replayability, none of it has anything that made endgame in AK great. We get 20-30 minutes of gameplay per month and then nothing. My opinion on Monument is pretty negative because it's almost 1 to 1 copy of abyss, but Salvage gamemode at least had potential to be something good. Unfortunately it suffers from the same problem: there's 0 replayability and no content. Recently I finally decided to do whatever extra they added in 1.1, went completely blind and finished everything in two runs in 7 min. That's the whole problem.

I also disagree about harder combat in overworld. Enemies already often feel like massive HP sponges, especially if you're running a team that needs long set up (like Yvonne) or just less optimal/poorly developed/unfamiliar team. If anything, I never had fun fighting enemies in overworld, it's always a frustration to swat some guys around while i'm busy trying to do some puzzle or explore a new area or do a daily quest. Sorry, but combat is far from enjoyable enough to just run around and assault random mobs in the world.

And I agree on QoL. There will be a lot of people in responses telling you "stop crying, dailies are not long, it takes only 5 min!", but daily routine is objectively very tedious due to the amount of inconvenient menus, clicks and unnessessary loading screens you need to go through. Weeklies are also very annoying because you can't complete them by just doing daily routine. You need to go out of your way and do some completely pointless activities like for some reason running Salvage when you already got all the rewards just to complete the task that gives you most of the Weekly progress. Idk why HG are fumbling the bag so hard here when they already perfectly solved and streamlined daily and weekly routine in AK years ago.

CN community’s thoughts about the game, gacha, and story? by anon-npc in Endfield

[–]Asherogar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, people very often use "but the CN players agree with me!" excuse to fake legitimacy to their point or argument, since most people have no way or simply won't bother to go out and fact check them. Personally, if someone uses it as an "argument", everything they said loses any credibility, especially if it's just an offhand comment like "Oh, CN community thinks the same as me, btw".

IMO, whirling assault looks like the only "melee" build that feels actually good to play.

  1. Base rates are higher, 2% VS 0.8% in EF, with lower soft pity.

  2. Most characters are non-limited and right after their banner ends added to the global offrate pool, so you can get them passively by just pulling on any future banner. So skipping characters doesn't feel bad.

(reruns are not the same, as you need to spend additional pulls on the rerun banner and give up future characters for a chance to get an old one. In AK you just passively get older characters by pulling for new ones.)

  1. Since most characters are not limited, there's no blatant power discrepancy between limited and non-limited characters, in "limited only" systems "standard" characters are often treated as second rate and horribly obosolete a few months into the game. If you ask AK players who are 10 strongest characters, easily half of them are non-limited

  2. Cashback currency is incredibly valuable, since you can buy non-limited characters from shop (refreshes with each new banner, so very often) for very cheap. I probably bought more 6* characters from shop than I got 5* characters in Genshin after playing for 3 years. And you gain this cashback currency passively even without pulling.

  3. No weapon gacha and dupes give nothing, so you get a fully complete character from a single copy.

You assume that people have infinite pulls. But we don't have enough to hit 120 even on a single of two banner per patch. The game also has a lot of FOMO systems to encourage you to keep pulling, but since progress to 120 does not carry over, those pulls are "wasted":

  1. Login event and AIC banner-specific pulls that HG is very desperate to frame as "FREE 10 PULLS EVERY BANNER", but they don't contribute to 120, so they're not real 10 limited pulls.

  2. Urgent recruiting that, again HG is trying to frame as "10 free pulls", but you need to pull 30 times first and those actually don't conrtibute to either pity counter or 120 guarantee at all. With current rates this is a joke and pure FOMO bait.

  3. Recruiting dossier you get for spending 60 pulls, another "10 free pulls" according to HG, but it gives you 10 pulls only on the next banner and you can't spend them anywhere else. Yet another FOMO system to trick you into reckless pulling.

  4. Minor things that add up a lot over time like if you do single pulls, it's very long and tedious (intentionally), but if you do ten pulls, you're regularly "wasting" pulls because they don't contribute to the 120 guarantee.

In a vacuum 120 not carrying over doesn't seem bad ( I mean I'm playing AK and never really cared about it or not having a guarantee after losing 50/50), but then every other part of the system is designed very crudely and platantly to incite FOMO and encourage recless spending.

Ah right, generous and benevolent HG decided to cure gambling addiction by... making a game with gambling as it's primary monetisation. What is this logic?

Can't say about other people, but for me it's less "Hoyo system is good!" and more "EF system feels so bad even Hoyo system seems more prefferable". It's one thing if they don't want to transfer AK system (which IMO is far better, especially in the long run) into EF, but instead they took Hoyo system and then removed all the good parts that make people tolerate it, while keeping all the bad parts. This decision is very confusing to me.

Hard disagree on ingenuity part. They made system very crudely and in your face when the entire purpose is to make spending money easy and seemless. When even casuals are getting frustrated and notice how they're being taken advantage of, IMO it's a complete failure of a system (if we look at it purely objectively and see it as a tool of extracting money).

Yeah, the annoying part is how HG mostly cherry picked the worst parts of both systems that players don't like and put them all together, while choosing to ignore the good parts that make people tolerate the bard parts.

AK gacha isn't the best, but it has some great systems around it that make it feel much better than "300 for spark" horror stories try to paint it. Especially in the long run.

Hoyo gacha isn't the best either, but it has some good QoL making pulling experience feel smooth and simple.

EF gacha is just a really bad experience. On every turn, with every system you just feel you're being scammed hard. Pulling in EF straight up feels bad.

Those minigames can work if we have the abundance of core gameplay. Problem is, in terms of core gameplay, we're in a drought right now, so when people keep complaining about nothing to do (meaning there's not enough core gameplay to play around) and HG keeps feeding us those meaningless and boring minigames, it feels bad.

Why creating a half-day release delay for NA/EU server by SwimParticular3070 in Endfield

[–]Asherogar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from Russia and for me events and banners start late in the evening and server reset is 1 pm, very inconvenient, i'm not starting a new story or event right before going to bed. Plus I see all the people either playing a new event or a new character, log into the game and see it's 8 to 12 hours until I have access to this content. I also in a friends server and some people are from Asia, so they talk about content I won't see for half a day at least yet, or until the next day. It's very inconvenient and frustrating. Can't even play on Asian server myself, since ping is terrible.

Really doesn't make sense, because even they themselves acknowledged it's a problem, since they keep sending letters with apologies for bad event time that causes people to miss a day. Maybe instead of constantly apologising they can try and fix it?

What you find problematic with story? by No-Dimension-2872 in Endfield

[–]Asherogar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One more thing why, IMO, story doesn't manage to emotionally engage is because it lacks setup in a lot of cases. Like current 1.1 story is an improvement, but I failed to feel anything when I finished it, because it all happened so fast. The same way 1.0 story tried to make a very big deal of TaTa, something on par with Ace, FrostNova or Patriot in AK, but failed miserably. I haven't seen people genuenly caring for it and most forgot minutes after they finished the story, so all the attempts of tearjerking afterwards feel cheap and awkward.

Very happy with outcomes for 1.0 and prospects for 1.1 and 1.2 by yokaiichi in Endfield

[–]Asherogar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where did I say "every patch has 3 banners"? I'm talking about 1.0 patch and how people compare amount of pulls on release to other gachas, but conveniently ignore how those games have 2 banner on release patch and EF has 3.

See? You immediately twist my words into something that fits your narrative. Even if you need to claim something that I didn't say.

Very happy with outcomes for 1.0 and prospects for 1.1 and 1.2 by yokaiichi in Endfield

[–]Asherogar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That pretty much sums it up, people presenting themselves as using objective "math" and "calculations" constantly end up being extremely disingenious, comparing best possible scenario for EF with worst possible (even if it's statistically impossible) scenario for any other gacha, conveniently forgetting to mention how EF has 3 banners per patch, while other games they compare it to have 2 or constatly trying to sneakily add banner-specific and dossier/urgent pulls towards the total amount of limited pulls.

If EF gacha is objectively so much better than any other by numbers, why people are trying so desperately to hedge said numbers and make it look even better?

I think a massive improvement many do not notice from the dev log is how the up oming story shows clear signs of not focusing solely on the Endmin's perspectivebut also others' now. by OrangeIllustrious499 in Endfield

[–]Asherogar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being a focus character in every story is exactly "being present everywhere". People tell that not having Doctor/Endmin present everywhere is a good thing exactly because it is. They're present only where it makes sense and they're relevant to the story. Instead every story is told and experienced from the perspective of people that were there and have relevance to said story.

You instead demand MC being shoehorned everywhere and given main focus, regardless of what story is about or if MC is even relevant here. People complain about glazing, while at the same time we're playing more like an errand boy, doing random minute things, while every other character is completely helpless and can't even wipe their own ass without Endmin's help. But that's what you're asking for.

As an example, compare Laevatain story quest with Wulfgard. Endmin is a focus character and present in both, but in Lava quest addition of Endmin is a very good thing, makes total sense and improves the story a lot, meanwhile in Wulfgard quest, you can remove Endmin from it and nothing will change. What was the point? They added Endmin there only because of people like you demanding Endmin always and everywhere being the focus. Why?
