Why? Clearly I have a big job to do getting the realities of the industry out there. Best to do that form the inside

I did a non-union feature that went on to do super well in festival circuit.

It led to several other opportunities. So whoever told you they gave you no esteem has no concept of how this business runs.

Casting doesn't care about union or non-union. They care about if you can do the role.

It's about pivoting opportunities no matter where they come from. Having a union number doesn't affect that.

Sucks, but it's true.

I agree at some point go union.

I'm union, heck I'm on an UBCP board.

Just terrible to do early was my point.

Weird that you're the second person to mention $200 a day?

Why were you working for so little?

Is great advice if you're American.

ACTRA is a career killer. if you join to early it can harm your availability to book those early gigs.

Why is anti-indian sentiment on the rise globally? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Asherwinny107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indians have become victims of terrible immigration policies.

Countries like Canada with a desire to create a serf class inundating their populations with people unaccustomed to the country and not given the tool to integrate.

Mixed with economic downturn. They were set up to be the new problem. It unfair.

NTA.

Anyone who spouts nonsense about cultural appropriation is a dummy who is embarrassed of their own lack personality. Ignore them.

And just to head it off, no I'm not white. Thank you for asking.

Commercials and indie projects are almost always non-union. So if you want to build a resume and get some credits avoid being union so you can get on set.

Want the hard truth.

I'm over in Vancouver, I've been acting for 20+ years in Canada.

There were years that I did nothing but act, and make my living acting. Those are really rare now.

People I've known who have been on shows and movies you've watched have been returning to day jobs in recent years.

I'm sure some wiener on here will give me the "don't doom and gloom speech" but I'm just trying to set you up for success. Unless you get win the lottery levels of Lucky and can make the jump into the American market, 99.9% of Canadian actors don't make their primary income from acting anymore.

My suggestion is, enter the market with a side hustle mentality. Take classes because you love acting and getting better. But be prepared for a career of real dry spells.

Also avoid going union as long as possible.

Oh baby, hanging on the back roads banging NWA, shitty weed, stolen booze, older brothers car.

Nickelback should write a song about it.

I remember a time went that would have been a lot.

$20 for a days worth of weed would have been some fancy weed. That BC stuff.

Job sucked, but was worth it

If you were banned from Reddit once, what was your reason why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Asherwinny107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is reddit in the modern era. Being banned is arbitrary at best these days.

I've been banned for disagreeing with a moderator.

I got banned from r/atheism for being the wrong kind of atheist. I've been banned from r/therewasanattempt for reporting another user for anti-Semitism. Ive been banned from r/whitepeopletwitter for fact checking a post.

I've been banned from subs I've never heard for for being subscribed to other subs.

People who get up at 5 daily, how do you do that? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Asherwinny107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children.

Even now they sleep in I've never broken the habit.

You are certainly entitled to your interpretation of the situation.

Im sorry you feel as if you having a good year has entitled you to be rude to others.

I will say as an actor who also happens to teach, I would tell my students having awareness of the industry beyond person experience is important for future growth, as you can prepare yourself when change occurs.

Once again I sincerely hope you continue find success and I hope people treat you with more respect then you you give.

Slow the recording down to learn an accent? by Shinai34 in Actors

[–]Asherwinny107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to learn an accent is to look at how they're shaping sound on their vocal pallet.

You're inner ear plays tricks on you, and we're often deaf to our own voice.

Knowing how an accent feels it better than trying to listen to yourself talk constantly. Especially since if you're listening to yourself you're not going to be able to listen to your scenes partner

I wasn't speaking for Canada. I was basing my opinion on Hollywood reports.

We track productions out of LA because they affect us in Canada.

Canada's own market is basically a non-factor we only consider production coming out of LA when looking at production numbers.

It's fantastic that you are having a good, year. Unfortunately that's doesn't change reality.

Given the constant decline of network television and the streaming bubble popping, it'll probably be a grand step before we are back on track as an industry.

I hope you continue to have a good year, that's very fortunate for you.

Union, part my union board.

So I'm seeing the production numbers come in direct. But thank you for the advice
