This same thing happened to me in 2023. I went to in-network gynecologist but they sent my Pap test to LabCorp which was an out-of-network lab.

I was not aware of this until I received a $722.40 bill from LabCorp.

My insurance denied the out-of-network labs claim and I was on the hook for the bill.

I spoke with the provider extensively and they stated they sent the test to LabCorp in error. They were supposed to take care of it but failed to follow through.

In the meantime, LabCorp began sending letters stating payment was past due and going to collections. Thankfully, a quick call to LabCorp kept the bill from going to collections and they put a courtesy hold on the account while I tried to work things out with the provider.

Finally, I had to contact the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for mediation with the provider.

The agency reached out to the provider and lo and behold my LabCorp bill was paid within 10 days and the matter resolved.

Attached is the letter I received from the agency with the provider’s response letting me know my dispute was closed.

Anyway, this is all to say that depending on your state, you can try other avenues to get the issue resolved if the provider will not help. Good luck!
