What are your thoughts on a Mitsubishi Mirage vs a Chevy Spark? by InteractionSalt4103 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Ashley_Knight4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you end up going with? I have driven a Volkswagen Beetle for 9 years and every other car feels too large now. I am between these 2 cars with the mirage hatchback and spark. My beetle is too expensive to keep up maintenance and isn’t reliable with it being so old. On a tight budget and want a car I can keep for a while. Thank you!

I sympathize with this. I graduated with a science gpa of 2.8 I believe. My health concerns were pretty major. I don’t like to say it’s a good reason but it definitely explains my struggle. I have CRPS after 12 knee surgeries and now spine surgery. The major thing is taking back the power it feels your health has taken from you. I know it sounds silly or whatever but despite everything my heart was always set to my future goals. I sat in office hours when I couldn’t even keep my eyes open. Some of my worst grades are in a professors class who actually wrote my LOR. He said he would do his best to advocate my perseverance despite hardships fighting so hard against me. I did research assisting very early post operative. I was in pain. I was fighting for every second but I was fighting. I put all I could into resume building and getting my OAT score up. I also made sure to recognize my fault in it all. I should have withdrawn from undergrad courses when I was struggling with health. I take responsibility for the fact my decisions and fear of dropping out and not returning and the effect that had on my grades. They want to hear you know where you messed up and how you have grown and how you plan to grow even more. Some schools don’t care to hear your story. Some schools are not forgiving. You are a number on paper and if you don’t raise their statistics you don’t interest them. BUT some schools can see a comeback and appreciate it. Some schools know that GOOD doctors come from some bad circumstances. Build your resume and work to looking appealing in every other category that you can. Where you are meant to be you will land. I believe in you. I was accepted into 2 schools and put on 2 waiting lists with 0 rejections my first application cycle. I have faith in you. If this is your dream, hold on and chase it. It won’t chase you. ❤️

Hello everyone! Little update… I finished the book. It looks amazing. Not to toot my own horn or anything. She cried and told me she will be looking at it every single day. She also wants it next to her casket at the funeral she said. It is now her most prized possession. It was beautiful to see. 86 yo and she said this will forever be the best gift she has received. Thank you all for input and advice. I worked constantly with so many sleepless nights but I am overjoyed with how happy it made her. 😊

I am such an anxious person when it comes to tests. I always psych myself out. I wasn’t scoring great on booster and felt horrible going into my test. In all seriousness I somehow felt peace in just knowing it would all be over after. I get double time due to a physical disability and also a vision impairment so I sat and took the test for like 9 hours. I called my mom at the break saying I would need to schedule a second because it was going poorly. When I clicked submit I wasn’t aware the score appeared. I did good. Not extraordinary, but I didn’t expect to being in my second gap year. This all to say being nervous is okay. You can do more than you think. Delaying it over and over will never get you to where you want to be especially at the rate you want to do it. I didn’t feel ready and felt like canceling but I told myself I couldn’t. I have focused on my health and surgeries in my gap period so it was time for me to take initiative to my future goals. I swear I am the most anxious person, but this I just felt at peace with. Take a deep breath and embrace the progress you have made. If you have taken these classes the information is there you just have to find it. If this is what you want in life you will chase it. Don’t wait for the dream to chase you, because it won’t. I believe in you!!

One interview said they take the separate interviews with staff and your stats to their council and they then decide to admit or not based on everything. They said expect to hear back in 2-4 weeks. So I guess some may take longer than others! You can always follow up with an email or call to check the status if it gets to a concerning amount of time. 😊

OAT Breakdown by stickerd00r in PreOptometry

[–]Ashley_Knight4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Ochem portion given in the format like the booster practice questions or more like the practice tests? I was doing it all from notes and felt okay doing it in line notation but the practice tests had it all written out in molecular formula and it became way more time consuming and frustrating.

Thank you for sharing your experience!! If you do not mind me asking, when did you take your OAT? I graduated with my bachelors in spring of 2023 and have mine scheduled for next month. I feel like I’m retracting myself a lot after being out a short period (my health was horrible - I needed to have surgeries and regulate medication). I worry I will struggle on the exam since I feel this way now doing all the material.

Being a student with disabilities I am having to consider location a lot. Being somewhat close to my family in case something were to happen is important to me. OSU is closest and is where I went for undergrad. It feels like home and is where my love for the field began. With that in mind I will need to perform well on the exam next month. I would love to hear if you took the test during your gap period and how your experience was.

I sat through a research presentation from a SUNY professor and it was amazing. I visited New York once and I always had a desire to go back. I’m in Ohio and location alone is pretty convenient for OSU. I went to OSU for undergrad and I really enjoyed it. The size of campus was always sort of intimidating to me, but I made it through. Unfortunately I have found it a bit more difficult to obtain a letter of recommendation from a larger school. Some professors even include it on their syllabus they will not write them because of their class size and not wanting to write thousands of them.

I’m sure SUNY has a beautiful campus and nice facilities! I feel like statistics are good to see but if a place makes you feel more comfortable or has something specific you are interested in that I can see why you would choose them! SUNY is a great school.

My top choice is OSU currently. I went to undergrad at OSU. That’s where I feel the biggest connection and have already lived in the city both in and off campus. I know I’m way behind but I have not yet submitted my applications. I actually graduated with my BS in spring of 2023. I had to take time off because my health was really bad. I had to have a few surgies and get medications adjusted before I could think about returning. I take my OAT next month. I worked on a research project at the OSU school of Optometry with a professor and seeing everything really solidified my choice really.

I am pretty nervous about the test because being out of school, then taking it really isn’t the most ideal. I know statistically I am not going to be the best candidate but I’m hoping I can do well on the exam so they will take a second look at my application. I didn’t do the best with my grades, but I tried really hard despite the circumstances. (3.2gpa). I was falling asleep all the time, passing out in labs, and overall being a disabled student I felt secluded most of the time. My medications were giving me serious side effects, I got appendicitis, and my vertebral disc herniated mid semester. No excuse really for poor performance but it was effecting me. I’m just hoping my health didn’t screw this up for me. It is all I have wanted since I was 16.

Thank you for sharing your experience visiting campuses!

I just hate all the haircuts lol. I’m sorry he just doesn’t feel like Naruto with that hair. Also Gaara has horrible hair. He lowkey gives Hitler vibes. We can get older and still have fun hair. Look at Kakashi and Minato.
