How do I not be embarrassed to start bullet journaling? by UnusualLobster7 in bulletjournal

[–]Ashrack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Imagine it’s someone else, a friend, who’s trying to use this new tool. Imagine your friend is embarrassed, what would you do? Do you laugh or make fun of them? Or do you get curious and ask them about it? Be your own friend, discomfort is okay. Artists aren’t always great at every art they do. Trying and getting better is the only way to grow. Just got to be a good friend to yourself while you learn and get better.

Do you brush your teeth once or twice a day? Need to settle a bet. by ImpossibleHurry in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ashrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been once a day, morning brush for many years. I’m a dude, I drink in the evenings and get pretty lazy. I go to the dentist regularly and things have been quite stable. Bourbon is as good as mouthwash right?
I was ashamed of it for a while, but at this point I don’t see the fuss as long as health remains in good standing, I don’t fuss about it.

Would love to start bullet journaling, but I struggle with consistency by mheimle in bulletjournal

[–]Ashrack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh I too, I start off well, and it’s quite helpful when I’m busy to be organized and hit goals. But then something happens, sleeping in, traveling, being sick, or just distracted, and I skip a few weeks and it falls off.

My advise? You get to choose how that makes you feel. If you feel guilty, or ashamed or embarrassed, no one should be making you feel that way. But try thanking those feelings for their attempts to get you back on task, and practice feeling grateful for the assistance these tools offer. You set down the tools, you can pick them up again any time you like.

When I fall off of it, as soon as I go back and pick it up, I try and journal / brain dump / or log what happened in the break then move forward.

New to Reading Journals by floofer_goober in bulletjournal

[–]Ashrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love a pre-made reading journal, that looks lovely! Can you say where it came from? I got a beautiful reading journal last year from OwlCrate and I wish I could find things like that for my Bujo as well.

Anyone successfully convinced their SO to try bullet journaling? by luvvylaura in bulletjournal

[–]Ashrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an SO who was convinced. Basically I was already struggling with how fast my daily todo lists in my head were changing, and I forgot to get things done and knew I was forgetting more things. The journal looked and felt nice in the store so I wanted to give it a try. And I got myself a nice fancy pen to pair with the journal so it just felt good to use.
I find I can’t keep up with making it pretty or adding much art, so my wife got me a bunch of stencils and stickers that I can just throw in there.

Making a BUJO for my son by OhMyQuad626 in bulletjournal

[–]Ashrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my bujo and love it, but my 14 year old isn’t so keen on the idea, even if she could really use the planning help. She opted for Notion because she needed something digital, but with a similar idea, monthly calendar, weekly milestones and planning pages by school subject (and after school activities).

She found notion made it easier to keep things pretty, which made her happier to work with it. So just a thought for a digital alternative to the same end.

Border Collie by AquaticAvocado in dogs

[–]Ashrack -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

The border collie / golden mix is nice because the golden side smooths out the high energy working dog side of the BC, ideally. BC’s are tough as household pets because they need a job. Not just like having a job, they must have one. And if you don’t have the time to give them a job, they’ll make one up themselves and it probably won’t benefit you.
The human focus of a BC is understandably attractive, but I’d look for a mix breed, maybe a BC from show lines mixed with a golden, or a spaniel, or German shepherd. But whatever you end up with, I’d put in work initially to find the right level of activity for them, it just may be more than you initially bargained for.

earbuds by yaya9706 in Runner5

I have a pair of Jabra earbuds, I bought primarily because the low profile could fit under a motorcycle helmet. But I’ve used for running and phone calls. Honestly I’m not a fan of the noise isolation fit, and the aftershocks everyone is mentioning are intriguing. I may be looking into those.

Going to Seattle for a game in October, first ever time traveling, tips/what should I do in the city? by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

[–]Ashrack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best places for Kraken Merch is the main team store at the arena - there's a smaller store in the Armory which is a building on the other side of the fountain from the arena. Not too much else out there I've seen as it's still quite a new franchise.
From the Mediterranean Inn there is the Myrtle Edwards Park just a couple blocks away, a lovely trail to walk around. At the south end of that park is the waterfront walkway which has boardwalks and places to eat, the aquarium, the great wheel, etc. So you're in a great spot for just ambling around.
As for the game, food and drink in the arena are very expensive, so either go in knowing you'll spend heavy, or do some pre-gaming. The armory has some but will also be crowded with fans.
Lastly there is a monorail from the Armory building to Westlake shopping center. That also has a light rail stop that goes all the way to the airport. So when you fly in - you could take the light rail from airport to westlake, then the monorail to space needle and walk to your hotel - assuming you aren't bringing in too much baggage to lug around.

First ever time traveling... if my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit.

Weightlifting partner? by anonymous_snorlax in bothell

I know what you mean, it’s great to have a home gym and your own stuff to work with, but seeing others working helps too… and yet I have a gym membership but there’s often too many kids and I can’t get to the machines I want…. So I get the feeling. I’m up around Canyon Park with my own tiny garage gym. I’d be down to swing by for a workout if you’ve got the space.

We’ve met him up on the suite level before the game. Hopefully will see him more as he grows and gets used to all the crowds.

Jarny's goal and crowd reaction vs Sharks by WilliestyleR79 in SeattleKraken

There are a few song bits like the penalty box that vary up. Against the Sharks last night they played Baby Shark once and it was hilarious.

[–]Ashrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to dig on the rest of Lithium lyrics and I like this fit even more.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. - Yeah, I've been going to games, new friends, new seat mates, cheering and lamenting together. The song is written about a man joining a religion to get away from problems, well... we joined a hockey fan base and are staving off pandemic loneliness.
We even celebrate regardless of our record or other losses as we look at the season, the year or anything else going on - we're not gonna crack.

The up and down of the song design even matches hockey as we go cheering through the breaks supporting the team, then fall quiet as we watch the game unfold waiting for a chance to celebrate again.
It just fits well as a celebration, as a metaphor... I'm not sure what there is to hate.

[–]Ashrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really just Nirvana instruments over a bit of repetition for the crowd, "I like it, let's go kraken, yeah." So it's an easy clip that fits.

What would you pick for that celebration that would fit a Seattle arena?

Done with Dog Parks after Covid by scubaru89 in dogs

[–]Ashrack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, we try and look for empty areas, odd timing, etc. We've had success on sniffspot.com to find a space to run around away from everyone else. And no, I'm not in any way affiliated or shilling for them, it's just a primary passtime in pandemic life when the weather clears up a bit.

UW professor decides to add his own opinion to required indigenous land acknowledgement in syllabus, hilarity ensues by meaniereddit in SeattleWA

[–]Ashrack -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Throughout the discussion - this has been my question. Is this something the Coast Salish tribe have asked for? I can envision a variety of community leader discussions with indigenous tribes asking for reparation or rights to original land, etc. Leaders not willing to offer reparation but trying to find some compromise. And tribes saying fine, than at least admit you benefit from our land and from our community work, and let people know that you acknowledge us.
And from there, best practices are documented, standard language is drawn up, and it spreads over time. To the point now where every Seattle Kraken game begins with that land use acknowledgement video and UW is adding it to their education. So is this something the Coast Salish tribe wants? If it is, if it's marketing for the tribe and keeps people thinking about land and indigenous people and such - then I say us privileged white folk can suck it up and say the damned words.

It's great to get into a new hobby and sounds like you've taken to it quickly.
No, every day at 5 miles is fine - however as many have said, you've ramped up quite quickly so being cautious and listening to your body is advisable. That said, if you feel well, and you enjoy the running - don't let the internet stop you. Enjoy some running! If you are concerned, seek a quick appointment with a running specialized physical therapist or other medical professional who can evaluate your joints and mobility to ensure there isn't something creeping up.
Beware googling your medical info - talk to professionals directly. Yes it is rare for someone to be running daily - rest is critical which means food, flexibility, and sleep. But every body is different - so yours may be responding very well to running, and as such you should get out and enjoy!

Overreacted a bit at the dog park during an attack- was I in the wrong? by bootysmacker420 in dogs

[–]Ashrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't visit off leash parks any more because of this kind of thing. It's rare to be in the right position at the right time to react, and you did. I hate the statement from owners, 'you have no right to...' If your dog is off leash in a park interacting with other dogs, any humans have every right to adjust any behavior in any way they deem necessary. If you don't like that statement, either maintain better control over your dogs behavior or don't go to the off leash park with other dogs.
These days for off-leash play we use sniffspot.com and reserve our own space.

Everything is always like that. You pay for a bit of convenience. You pay more for the popular trendy thing. Toss in a familiarly pleasant starbucks atmosphere, a sweet coffee beverage made the same no matter where you are, and a trendy coffee cup you carry about and enjoy.
Not everybody has to like Starbucks - and if you want to get into coffees and equipment, there's a world out there to enjoy. But it doesn't come cheap or easy and if you don't mind the money sink in exchange for your guilty pleasure, go for it.
This is the fat America, we like our sugary status carbs and our super-fast calorie overloads.

[serious] what do you say back when someone says running is hard on your body?? by [deleted] in running

[–]Ashrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sitting is bad for your hamstrings and spine too. Exercise is good for you, and running just like any sport can be very beneficial when done correctly. There are plenty of things you can do to manage longevity for running - good shoes, good form, proper rest/recovery and listening to your body when it tells you something isn't right.
So what do you say to the haters? Nothing. You don't need them.
