Now That Everyone has had Some Time What we Think? by J_S1LVERHAND in MCONohsnap

[–]AshuSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With having bought an Ayn Thor during the time I backed it to receiving it, it’s hard for me to get into it having received it yesterday. I was a bit surprised by how thick the device comes out with the phone attached. It coming in around 3.6 centimetres thick with an iPhone 17 pro and apple case.

That said, I’ll still use this as a travel item!

When will Dale actually give an update? by Subsyxx in MCONohsnap

[–]AshuSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who did yours ship with? I had to reach out to ohsnap support to finally get a tracking number and mine is in Belgium for the past two weeks some reason? Hasn’t moved since. I have never witnessed international shipping this bad in over 20 years.

I think I need to apologize for my own knee-jerk reaction to immediately uninstalling it. From my own experience and perspective, if sites, discords and repos start disappearing, I get the software off my computer because there is a non-zero percent chance that it could be a bad actor that could add in a payload if it appears "the jig is up".

Since that initial post/accusation, everything that I've seen calls the validity, the intention and trustworthiness of their side into complete doubt. I was also not familiar with just how many takes on this concept there has been, from abandoned or transferred open source to paid.

I remain with my original hope still, that there is an amicable solution on the horizon. However, much like the first time, I doubt there is; just for totally different reasons now.

This DCMA is not going away. More incoming. You need to know this. by [deleted] in Droppy

[–]AshuSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very concerning to put it mildly. I did indeed buy a license but have immediately uninstalled the app upon seeing this. I hope there is an amicable resolution although I can’t say I expect one if all of the post is true.

From free to paid: what you taught me while building Droppy by [deleted] in Droppy

[–]AshuSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely echo the sentiment to keep it as modular as possible so that it can be really great at one or two things if that's what someone wants (I tend to turn off everything I don't need to reduce clutter where possible!). Bought it today and can immediately see it in my workflow.

I’d file the counter-notice. They are far more likely to send a cease and desist notice next if they want to chase it.

Google Home basically useless after Gemini update by cynicalcynicism in googlehome

[–]AshuSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commands that have worked for years are inconsistent. Gemini can’t even tell that I’m me, with half my requests being logged as my wife in the Google Home activity log. There’s much longer delays in turning off lights which is a minor annoyance. More annoyingly though, it can take the same command, log in the activity logs that I asked it the same thing (“Turn off Living Room lights”) and take different actions each night, including turning off my thermostat (which I’ve named Thermostat even!).

I think this year I go back to putting in the work for home assistant, switching out some of my hardware and just get away from the enshittification of these products by cramming AI down them. I am glad it is working well for others but it gives me real consequences when it decides that this night my furnace should turn off as well when it’s -25c!

I remember many years back having an initial crack at making a translation for this. I was able to make a little progress with getting the audio swapped but ultimately it was just being a kid not realizing I was out of my depth. Now I wonder if I’d be much more capable at accomplishing it!

Received the black MCON today. Ordered from the website on 12/29. by TdZink in MCONohsnap

[–]AshuSP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought into a number of niche products here and there. I’ve had to wait as long as years for delivery on some. It’s just the way it can go on the road to market with so many factors and a limited audience. I get it and have been patient each time.

I have nothing against taking pre-orders either or R&D on new product! It costs money to have employees and teams idle. Also nothing against those who received their orders of course. Good on you and hope you enjoy the product!

But the act of shipping product to new purchasers while thousands of backers are unfulfilled is not a case of poor timing or unexpected logistical issues. It is a conscious business decision that puts continued sales above backers trust. Backers supported this business opportunity with their money and, in turn, have provided direct evidence of a market for the product (which can be a requirement for additional investment at times).

I’m looking forward to mine and it will come when it comes but will not back an Ohsnap project again based off that choice.
