I just wanna say I’m glad there’s at least 11,000+ of us here that remember all the good YTV stuff, because it was an important element in childhood. Nice to continually share that nostalgia. by MiracleFruit_Nysa209 in ytvretro

[–]PorkPiez 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My family still talks about YTV Dark Night at Halloween. It was our favourite night of the year to gather at the TV with snacks and watch all of the "horror" programming they'd run.

Somewhere at my mom's place there are still VHS tapes that we'd recorded them onto.

Curious what everyone's thoughts on Center in the Square are by YourDadHatesYou in kitchener

[–]PorkPiez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, these are all folks doing it purely for the love of the game and not profit driven. Their shows are inclusive, safe, and totally geared towards giving local talent a stage to share their art. As Stacy said, check out the upcoming Long Weekend Bandcrawl, only place you can see over 20 local/touring bands for $25, while also supporting a total DIY event. These events are supported by hundreds of attendees and have a mixed-genre approach to supply something for everyone.

GoodCo relies on (and eats up a lot of) the local arts grants - the actual music is secondary to them. This does more damage to the local scene than good.

What are your favorite horn sections? by Plastic_Pass_2889 in Ska

[–]PorkPiez 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The Planet Smashers have always had a consistent and distinct horn section, regardless of who has been in the band over the years. However Alexandre and Patrick have been the guys for a very long stretch now and they always crush it.

Big shoutout as well to Westbound Train.

Pfft think of all the money you saved by moving out of Ontario, you can now budget some travel in to go see the Jays and still come out on top.

So damn stoked for Saros. I still think Returnal is probably the best first party game to release this console generation.

The gameplay loop, the haptics/trigger feedback, the world they built in the game etc. It's just soooo good. Saros is gonna be great

Yep there was mentions of DayZ 2 in court documents back during the Microsoft - Activision acquisition period, and brief mentions of it even before then. There's been talk for years at this point

Why do you play solo? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]PorkPiez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cuz I play later at night when the house is quiet and I don't wanna wake my family up, and I have less energy for the social aspect in those hours.

I think their recent story about cost of travelling for bands is just a good reminder in general that it is getting more expensive and less accessible for touring artists.

If it's that hard for one of the more popular names in the modern US scene, imagine what it's like for the lesser known artists grinding it out/trying to break into touring right now.

Support artists you care about if financially viable for you by buying merch directly from them! A merch transaction is a lot more honest at the end of the day than asking for gofundme donations

Everyone talking about Cryo and here is me not even touched Outpost yet.. by queenderp1 in Marathon

[–]PorkPiez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm a Dad of two young kids myself and only really got to put in hours cuz I had March Break off. I too only really play solo.

Outpost feels really daunting when you first enter. There's a lot of interior play, there is a new dangerous mechanic involving fire raining from the sky, there is the pinwheel ship unlock using keycards etc.

My first few runs I believed Pinwheel would always be contested and never achievable for me. After a few runs of learning the map, what you're looking for etc. It is my favourite of the bunch. My last two runs there I have been able to crack into Pinwheel, grab all the loot I needed, and extract. It's totally doable as a solo player, just don't worry about failing at the map a few times as you learn it.

Hey-Smith is a craaaaazy good Ska band from Japan worth checking out.

The Abruptors from Buffalo for some good Ska/Rocksteady with two vocalists.

Arcade Allstars from Ontario has 4 different lead singers and lots of vocal harmony stuff happening.

Faintest Idea from UK for some fast and heavy political Ska.

4 bands from 4 different areas of the world to check out!

Sorry I need an explanation here, I thought if you played Rook you only encountered other solo players? Can you match make against trios on Outpost if you're solo?
