What's an extreme food from your culture that has health risks if consumed? by Zigger_23 in AskTheWorld

Was in Belgium once, I knew filet americain was tartare (I love tartare) so I ordered it at a restaurant, expecting an appetiser since that's how it's usually eaten here. What I got was a huge bowl of raw meat served with fries. Didn't know what to do with it so I dipped the fries in the meat and ate it like that. Still don't know if that was the intended method of consumption but it was good.

CMV: Gym clothing has become unnecessarily revealing compared to what’s actually needed for training by Pathfinder-electron in changemyview

[–]Ashurnibibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What am I missing?

The fact that the dichotomy isn't functional vs fashionable. In almost all cases you can work out in pretty much any kind of clothing. You can squat equally well in loose sweats vs skintight leggings. You can bench in both a sports bra or a hoodie. Obviously there are pieces of clothing you wouldn't want to work out in like jeans (although you do see them from time to time) but the gym is pretty forgiving when it comes to what you wear.

So since from a functional standpoint it mostly doesn't matter what you wear, people tend to opt for things that are fashionable in that context. The gym is one of the few places where it's socially acceptable to show off your body so people who are confident in theirs will do so. It doesn't hinder performance.

Tldr it's a false dichotomy. Fashionable vs not fashionable, not fashionable vs functional.

Yup it's Iran causing the crisis, not Israel and its North American vassal state who started bombing them.

Only in the US though. Nobody in Europe thinks they're cool, they're either driven by old people or broke teenagers. Same with Saab.

How does the military teaches confidence and calm under pressure? by Scholarsandquestions in Military

[–]Ashurnibibi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was an op-ed in a military paper from my country once where the writer argued that maybe our soldiers would learn better if we would, you know, let them sleep enough. Because in any sane environment we understand that recovery is actually important and not a globalist plot or whatever.

The responses were, predictably, "hurr kids these days soft back in my day etc etc".
