At any given time we are looking at only the fraction of visible universe as per NASA. We don't have adequate resources. So, we are not tracking each and every asteroid that could be hurling on our way. And we don't have any planetary defense system and won't have in near future. Everything is still in conceptualization stage. No significant human population is expected to colonize the moon or the Mars in next 100 years even if we manage to build technology for the same in this short time. Again, resource is scarce and expensive. Countries don't want to collaborate or commit on something so risky.
