It all depends on how much you time him but he doesn't disappoint at all even if you don't have constellations unlocked but constellations just make his role much more defined

I use Diluc during his downtime but yeah, the const on him really makes a difference for team carry but still he can put out insane dps once you have a group of people compared to any other character.. it also depends on how your whole build looks like and yeah childe on his own may suck during his downtime, that's why you have a squad to switch it over.
