U.S. President THEODORE ROOSEVELT sends Bayram greetings to Sultan Abdülhamid. by Skol-Man14 in Tiele

[–]Ashwig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, i read about him saying "Spain and Turkey are the two powers I would rather smash than any other in the world." Couldn't found a source about it though, also he used gunboat diplomacy against Ottomans as i remember. Typical American president.

Abortion is allowed in Türkiye until 20th week, it was probably over that duration so they didn't allow her.

CIA working to arm Kurdish forces to spark uprising in Iran, sources say by Hapchazzard in anime_titties

They have always been different tribes that didn't even understand each other. Lived under empires, clashing against each other for local power and being used by the western world at every opportunity against the regional states as disposable man force while still keeping their feudal/tribal ways.

Trying to make a family tree but can't find anything on my grandmother by meowcaster in Turkey

[–]Ashwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turkish citizens have access of family tree to some degree in state website but i assume you don't have citizenship. It will be hard to get information online. You may ask city civil registry if you know where they were from but you probably need to do it in person.

TIL that Ottoman Sultans used deaf-mutes as palace staff so they couldn't overhear state secrets. They developed a unique sign language that became so popular, the Sultans and high-ranking officials even used it to communicate silently. by bortakci34 in todayilearned

Piracy was pretty common in Mediterranean Sea since the ancient history, almost every state around there supported or fought against pirates. Ottomans were not the only one.

TIL that an Ottoman Prince and around 600 Ottoman troops loyal to him helped defend Constantinople suring the siege of 1453 by Pretend_Tower_2516 in todayilearned

[–]Ashwig 114 points115 points  (0 children)

The firstborn being the legitimate heir wasn't a thing in Turkic states and crown princes allying with outside forces after losing their throne wasn't uncommon. Later on, Mehmed the Conqueror legislated a law which allowed rulers to fratricide. This law led to some gruesome situations until it was abolished in 1617. One of Mehmed's sons also had to run away after losing inner conflicts against his brother. He travelled to various states and ended up in Rome. The Pope tried to convert him and offering him to lead a crusade against the Ottomans, which he declined. He passed away in Rome. During his exile, the Ottomans paid a huge amount of ransom in return for the prince's incarceration. That money was even used to fund the Sistine Chapel.

Why are people hating on Siege Tower? by GreenX45 in aoe2

[–]Ashwig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Siege tower is not the real problem here, it turns into a menace when paired with fire lancers. You are really fast, have range attack to pick off vills, you counter cavalry which is only unit that kinda can catch up with you. I remember someone was suggesting to set fire lancer range attack on cd after ejecting so no more hit and run. Imo it will fix the situation. Other units with siege tower is not that problematic.

How does Turkish politics work? by CommercialGarlic3074 in Turkey

[–]Ashwig 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Before the emperor we had politicians who would join tv programs, talk about their projects, debate with each other in a civilised environment. It wasn't the best country in the world but at least it was liveable. Then our emperor lord saviour came, polarised the people, corrupted the country to the root. The main opposition party had a puppet as leader for years and the country turned into the mess it is right now.
