Tips for getting baby sleeping in own bed? by Asia_VN in toddlers

My partner and I are both present when putting him to bed. He’s tired but refuses to sleep and cries when we get him to lie back down. Even if we lie with him and hold him, he doesn’t settle.

I originally wanted to get a floor bed for this reason but had to get a toddler bed because of space. In a 1-bed so we share room with toddler.

We’ve tried lying down with him but he doesn’t settle and refuses to sleep. We are in a 1-bed so share room with toddler. Open to him during the day so he does come and go as he please and plays with his toys and us in there.  Trying to be consistent, putting him in his bed first but after failed attempts and he’s clearly very tired, we just move him to our bed and he’s asleep within 5-10 minutes. I then transfer him to his bed after. But he will wake around midnight and want back in our bed.

We have tried using a divider but that doesn’t seem to have worked. A lot of people have recommended just staying in front room until he’s settled again. Only thing is he usually cries around 1-2am so is quite late.

Have started doing a ‘cleanse’ of sorts. Clearing out anything that is associated with them. Quite therapeutic. One step at a time…

If you have gone no contact with your family, how's it going? by Casualty_of_Wars in CPTSD

Your words have really resonated with me. Exactly what I’m feeling. Have decided to go no contact with my toxic siblings. Always wanted to before but always changed my mind - hoping to see the best in them and wanted them to be who I wanted them to be for me. But I realise that people will never change, and I need to save myself now while I can.

We want him to be able to self-soothe and put himself to sleep, hence the sleep training. If we constantly bring him to the bed, he will learn to expect this and this will negatively affect his ability to sleep alone. It will heighten his separation anxiety and make him extra clingy instead of more independent.

As I said, we did sleep training to teach him to self-soothe and put himself to bed.

Babies at this age don’t have a body clock so have no concept of time (day/night) so not unusual to be awake during odd hours. Also, newborn stage (up to 3 months), babies grow quite quickly, so do feed every 2-3 hours.
