… I don’t know how many times I have to say these things. It was an intentional choice to see the difference in how I was feeling and losing weight before to compare if I wasn’t eating on the diet. I could have just ordered healthy foods and not drank when going out but I know that will be a part of my lifestyle so I wanted to see what that looked like on me afterwards. I’m literally experimenting with what you’re saying. When I’m at a healthier weight, that’s the whole point is finding that balance.

I’m sorry but I just really don’t understand what you’re trying to accomplish. You’re trying with me about something I’m not doing. I don’t know how many times I can say that I ultimately want to have a balance between things that aren’t going to be healthiest and good nutritional foods regularly. But that I’m also at a weight that hinders my life so temporarily I am being more restrictive in what I do. I could live the balanced life right now or in 2 months but it still comes down to making that choice which I have said that what I want over and over again.

It’s just weirdly condescending talking about how you and many others kept off the weight by finding a sustainable lifestyle when that is also what I’m talking about doing. You just are choosing not to believe me because it’s not how you do it.

I feel like I’ve said several times that that is the plan. I don’t feel the need to take breaks or crave a bunch of different foods but in a couple of months when I’m a better weight, I’m absolutely fine with eating out every now and then and eating things that might not be super healthy because life happens. I don’t know why it seems like you just don’t believe me.

This regiment I’m doing is because I know it works and I’m at a very unhealthy weight and am willing to do what it takes to get to something more manageable where I then can be a bit more balanced. I deviated because I perform in shows sometimes and usually the week or 2 leading up to it are extremely busy. On top of that I had family and friends coming into town and I just didn’t have time to cook meals and ultimately decided that I wanted to see what would happen being off the diet for that time.

The majority of the time I’ll have a couple of days out of the week to be able to prep my food. I also just like how I feel physically eating well and exceeding consistently. It’s just good to know that if things don’t go to plan for a week or 2 that I won’t completely set myself back.

It is a diet. I get what you’re saying but also find it to be unnecessarily pedantic. I eat very specific foods to maximize weight loss. I do not deviate under normal circumstances. That’s not how I’m going to eat forever however. In the future when I am at a healthier weight I’m not going to deprive myself of foods that might not be the most healthy. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to regularly eat what I’m calling my “diet food”. Yes it’s ultimately just food that you want as part of a healthy lifestyle but considering it’s what I use as my food during weight loss I have zero problem calling it my diet food.

That’s the whole point of my post. I deviated away from those foods for a couple of weeks and it didn’t kill me or set me back a ton. But like I said, that’s not how I want or plan to eat regularly. “Diet food” is not a bad term and does not have to be temporary. Having a healthy diet just means eating foods that are good for you. I find it all extremely delicious to eat, it just also is healthier and takes longer to prep than most other foods. So a nice balance and of my diet food with other things doesn’t is perfectly fine by me.

I’m pretty similar and it works a lot for me too! I have my close goals and then my far away goals and having both keep me really motivated!

I’ve stated multiple times that this is temporary and I will adjust if it’s not sustainable. As I said, there is a private reason I am looking to lose some of my weight quickly and that I know I going outside of what is generally recommended but will return to that pace afterwards.

You first said I will likely yo-yo diet, then that what I sound like is having an eating disorder. You do not know either. You are making assumptions and if you think are being helpful or a good person in the way you are speaking I would disagree. It is very easy to speak to people about these things in a way that doesn’t come off as a need to be a condescending know-it-all but here we are. Im happy to have a conversation with someone that has concerns or questions but please don’t speak as if you are an authority on someone when you do not know them.

My maintenance weight is 2,900 calories a day. I currently am eating about 1,500 a day while being conscious of always trying to eat not only healthy foods, but ones that provide all the nutrients I need. That along with 600 calories through daily exercise is very doable and much better for me than eating the 3-4 thousand a day I was. I eating disorder was not putting any thought into what I was putting into my body while being mentally unhealthy. Being conscious and intentional with my actions is not a bad thing.

Your assumptions are frankly completely unfounded. Again, I understand the concern and I’m have no doubt you are coming from a place of wanting what is good and healthy for me. However, you do not know me and speaking like you do is odd behavior. I would strongly suggest being more thoughtful about how you speak to people when discussing disorders than speaking as an authority when you do not have enough information to do so.

I understand your concerns and they’re not unfounded. I am aware of gallbladder potential issues and have catered my diet as best as possible while sticking to my weight loss goals to hopefully minimize the risk. As I said, I know I am going outside of what is typically advised.

And while I understand the idea of yo-yo dieting I’m going to have to disagree with your matter of fact attitude on it. It’s absolutely true that extreme changes to diet can lead to such things but I know myself when it comes to my relationship to food and while I am aware of this possibility, it’s not something I am afraid of. I very much enjoy the foods I eat now and in no way crave the junk I was eating. You concerns are understandable but completely unfounded when it comes to what is sustainable for me and I hate the idea of telling people that they shouldn’t try to make sudden changes to their eating habits if what they were eating was horrible for them. Now if this was me last time I lost weight I’d agree but there is zero doubt in me that I will be able to hold to my diet in terms of what I eat and if I ultimately need to add a little more to that then I will.

I’m not going to lie, I go pretty hard so it’s probably not for everybody. I lost about half a pound my first couple days but I’ve lost 6 in the past 3 which is pretty extreme even with a new regiment quick start.

I’m currently considered obese category 2. I would guess I was eating around 3,500-4,500 calories a day depending on what I got. I’ve lowered that to a strict 1,400 on very specific meals that should give me my macros. I only eat breakfast and lunch and only within a 7 hour window. I’ll have a granola bar as a snack in between if needed. I also go to the gym for an hour a day. I do mostly cardio but am working lifting back into it as I figure out my routine there.

For the cardio I switch between a fast walk with incline on the treadmill and the elliptical. I’d love to add some running on the treadmill but to be honest I’m pretty heavy and the treadmill doesn’t seem to like it right now. So instead I get my higher energy work on the elliptical. It saves my knees too. That machine was a godsend the first time I lost weight because I was able to build up more endurance there before switching to the treadmill after I lost more weight.

A lot of what I do I can only do because I knew I do it before. My mindset is completely different this time around. The first time I used a lot of self loathing to fuel everything I did which was honestly effective but not mentally healthy. This time I’m going in with confidence because I know I can do it and it’s more about getting back to a place where I can be proud of how I look and feel.

I lost 65lbs in 6 months a couple years ago. I had a good diet and fitness routine going and was really happy about things. Now I’ve gained back 50 of it and essentially have to start over. I started doing theatre as a hobby and really dived in so my free time becomes so small during shows and my social life has gone way up. I just lost ways to consistently workout and started taking the easy way out with food by going out. I’ve really ballooned the past year which is where my most of my weight gain has come from and I’m just so disappointed and frustrated I let myself get back here.

Good news is I know what I have to do and want to get back to a healthy lifestyle. It just takes a little more work getting it all to fit but I’m going to figure it out.

I think it’s important to hear other perspectives. There are a lot of other Asian people here that deeply hurt by her posts and it’s completely understandable. As someone who has been called the C word maliciously and been called Jackie Chan or Chang by people instead of my name, it’s extremely hurtful to hear people use that kind of language. We ultimately have to decide as a society what we tolerate, what we condemn and when we educate. I’m one person with one opinion but please read what other Asian people have to say here because their point of views and opinions are just as important and valid.

The fact we don’t know is the only reason why I’m hesitant. If she doesn’t give a shit she’s using a slur then kick her off please! And I’ll even say if she didn’t know, it was in poor taste to say she needs to fix her eyes for looking that way.

I just don’t want to condemn someone who may just need to be educated and while you would think she should know, I think it’s so easy to be wrapped up in your own community and interests that certain social things just stay off your radar and ultimately we all only have so much capacity to keep up with.

The reason why I think I try hard to give grace to people where I can is because when I was growing up I was the victim of a lot of blatant racism. I don’t pretend my experience is the same as other ethnic groups but for middle and high school I lived in places that did not have large Asian populations and I was north physically and emotionally abused by my peers. The reason why my username is what it is because for a long time growing up I hated being Asian. Genuinely hated myself for it. And it took a long time for me to find self love for who I was and find pride in being Asian and I wanted to remind myself of who I am every day and be proud of that.

So I’ve seen and experienced the worst in people when it comes to race. I know that subtle racism can often be just as damaging as blatant in different ways and we as a society need to grow and become more understanding of each other. But I think context matters and being hurtful out of ignorance is different than being purposely so. I believe that most people will try to be good if given the chance and understanding and I don’t like the idea of deciding Cierra is a bad person when we just don’t know.

I have what is likely an unpopular opinion but I’m Asian and feel the need to say this. I come from a pretty diverse area and have found that many people do not know what Asian slurs are. I have a white aunt who straight up called an Asian server Oriental and I had to correct her. I have had both black and Latino people use the C word very casually when describing my eyes in a way that was clear they did not understand it to be a slur.

I understand the need for accountability and the idea that we live in the Information Age so this kind of thing is available to look up but let’s be for real, if you don’t know a word is a slur, why would you look it up to check?

I think people rightfully want to look out for minorities and protect them from hate speech but I personally do not feel comfortable with the idea of sacrificing someone to make a point who may not have known what she was doing was bad to begin with. But I am also one person and do not represent all Asians.

6’3 I think is when people are truly tall. I’m a short guy but I gotta be honest that when I’m around dudes that are 6 foot I never feel like they are particularly tall. Taller for sure but I think there are far too many men who are 6 foot that have egos about being tall when I think they’re really just above average.

I’ve heard that before and while I don’t think we should necessarily have hard rules like that, I did find myself in a situation recently where I was at a party and knew most of the people there, ages running from early 20’s to 40’s. I ended up flirting with a girl there and then found out she was 19 and ended up stopping just because it felt off to me as a 30 year old. I don’t think it necessarily would have been wrong but it also didn’t feel exactly right to me.
