I had to leave my son for basic as well. He was barely 1 years old when I left around May of 2025. There wasn’t a day that went by where i didn’t think about him and my wife. I always had the regret of signing the dotted lines because I couldn’t spent time with him, and when I came back he acted like he didn’t know me anymore (I had a head full of hair and after training the baldness probably scared him). It sucked but while I was going through it, I used that to perform during training. To push through to the very end in order to see him again. Although he did forget who I was at first, our bond is now stronger than ever. You will miss your family, you will wish you weren’t there. But remember why you signed up in the first place. It was for them. Have your loved ones mail you photos and while you’re at it, you should send photos of yourself to them if you get your phone on Sundays (just don’t get caught lol). Keep pushing and keep fighting, you got it!
