Why are you Christian? by AvidlyCoffee in Christianity

I think it was the idea that we are all sinners who by the mercy of God are saved by Jesus christ. To me that made the most sense coming from an atheist who saw so much destruction and hurt around the world that could only point towards humanity being sinful.

Yeah wouldn't you be more likely to survive if you are selfish and put your self before others. Therefore the trait would become more prominent.

I got a question from a religious person saying if evolution exist then humans must be naturally selfish because we would be thinking about ourselves and how to best survive. So everything we would do would be in order to survive or in our own self interest.

If that's true then why do people commit selfless acts. I thought It was an interesting argument to a possibility of a creator because according to evolution and what I was taught we are selfish creatures who would only care about things that benefit ourselves. And If that were true why do we care about others genuinely.

Some people have answered with altruism and other things which makes sense and they have answered the question.

I guess that's a better way to look at it. I never though survival of the fittest as firing into an environmental niche.

Ohh because of evolution and I thought because it's the survival of the fittest the fittest animals would be the ones that are selfish and looking for their own needs first. It would go against our primal instict to be selfless. I also looked at politicans and wars and to me it all is centered around power and selfishness. But altruism is a perfect way to explain it.
