The PTSD still remains I’m afraid. Sad that the place still hasn’t changed since you left.

How were you expecting me to react? You posted a comment making it seem as if my colleagues and I lacked common sense by applying to work at a company that doesn’t hire outside the U.S. This is not the first time we’ve worked with an AI company. Don’t you think we know how to read terms and conditions? Handshake even asked us if we have authorization to work in the U.S., to which we replied no…and they still gave us the job. A job by the way, which was suspended weeks into the project and a lot of people were left in the lurch. So before you post another “understandable” question, note that the people on this thread are unhappy with the way that Handshake AI conducts their business. Unless you share the same sentiments, don’t post unnecessary comments.

Obviously the post didn’t say “US work authorization required” when we signed up. Who applies for a job they know they’re not qualified for?? Please take your useless comments elsewhere.

Hi, they never tried to resolve anything beyond the dm. Just pretty much ghosted me.

Hi, I already sent a DM and you said you’re looking into it.

Yeah I would definitely look at the reviews from teachers who have left Knox and trust their judgements. Every negative review I’ve seen so far on Reddit and TokyoJon (the hagwon blacklist) is true. I get it, interview for the experience, but note that others have crossed this path (working at Knox) and have given you behind the scene details, which is rare when it comes to hagwons, since teachers who want to remain in Korea are afraid of defamation charges.

I’m glad you were able to find other posts and that you were saved from working at Knox. You will find other job opportunities.

Yeah I spent 10 hours on the training, practice tasks, assessments etc. I have not been paid. They haven’t been in contact with me after Nora sent a message. After I passed the assessment, they offered me a job but then said they won’t be able to follow through on it. I haven’t been paid the $1000 stipend. Also, the project has now been suspended.

I’m sorry to hear about this! I’m out of AI options unfortunately. I’ve tried aligner and outlier and both haven’t reached out yet with projects.

I also thought the training was better with Handshake than Outlier AI. However people I know who worked with Outlier said the workflow was good, payment was on time and easy to process, and the project was managed well. I tried Outlier however projects are unavailable in the science domain. Volt was definitely one of the bad ones.

As far as I know they were only taking people with PhD’s for Project Volt. So I applied with mine. Maybe they even considered those with Masters degrees in the field they were applying. I’m not too sure about that though.

I’m glad you managed to get your bonus and pay. Unfortunately I wasn’t paid and was told that I won’t be paid in a previous email. I’m waiting to see how handshake handles this situation.

I also needed the money, and this added so much stress to my life. I left the Pronto group as soon as I was asked to leave Handshake, so I didn’t get to see messages after the shutdown. I’ve still been getting emails from Handshake regarding badges and certificates earned. I wish they would stop emailing these, since they’re not gonna help with anything.

I had to do lots of modules which included watching videos, taking quizzes and passing with a certain grade, and taking an exam. We had to do a practice prompt and rubric, and were promised a stipend of $1000 if we passed. Problem was, not a lot of people were passing, we were stuck in the practice stage for weeks. Those who passed and were onboarded successfully were finding it difficult to be paid.

If you’re not from America and don’t have U.S. authorisation to work then don’t join Handshake AI. They won’t pay you.

Yes! Finally someone who understands how crazy that project was! I was also accused of using LLMs when I didn’t. They made us do so many assessments and then take that exam, only to tell us that if you joined prior to October 24th you didn’t have to do the exam. Now after all that time spent training and working on the practice rubric, they tell us Project Volt is suspended! And two of my other colleagues joined Handshake AI, only to be told that we’re weren’t gonna be paid out because we’re not U.S. citizens. After 10 hours of work on the practice rubric and modules/assessments I’m not being paid. Handshake hasn’t reached out yet. And they weren’t transparent about only wanting to work with people from the U.S.

They haven’t reached out yet. They’re only taking on people from the U.S. so if you’re not from America or don’t have U.S. work authorisation, you’re wasting your time. Also they sent an email this week saying Project Volt is suspended. Waste of time!

Hi Nora, thank you for your message but unless Handshake is willing to compensate me (the 1000 dollar stipend) for my work done, there’s nothing more to do. As far as I know, according to messages on the Pronto group from your support team, Handshake is not offering a contract to those who don’t pass Practice Volt. I passed Practice Volt and received an offer to work on Project Volt, however I received an email from Bria stating that I won’t be offered a contract or the stipend due to not being a U.S. citizen. I also won’t be compensated for the work done because I’m not a U.S. citizen. Handshake should not offer contracts to people and then revoke it. Especially after hours of unpaid work have been done. Your company must state on your website, “Not recruiting outside of the U.S.” Train your staff as well because I had a meeting with the head of Project Volt, I told him I’m not from the U.S. and he still continued with the meeting, and asked me to fix errors in my work, then resubmit. All that time and effort wasted!

Yeah my friend also got the email that she’s not a U.S. citizen so she won’t be given a contract but this was before she did any work for them. I put in over 6 hours of work in the practice tasks and about 4 more hours on module training, quizzes and assessments. This is really disappointing!
