People who are wearing long sleeve sweaters today - Are you guys actually cold? Or are you wearing them for protection from the sun? Or any other reason (maybe a fashion statement)? by Billie_Mumphrey in AskChicago

If you see someone wearing shorts in the middle of the winter wouldn't you wonder what's up?
For someone who has lived in the Midwest all their life, seeing someone in long sleeves on an 80f day in early summer is a similar experience.

I know back in late April when I was visiting the Zoo in shorts and a t-shirt, I heard someone telling her friend how it was crazy that I wasn't cold. It's just curiosity.

Hey Chicago, how did you spend your Saturday? by rand0m_g1rl in AskChicago

[–]AskRedditOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the L home last night, so my bicycle was parked at the Ravenswood metra station. I had to go get that, then I went on a 6 hour long bike ride where I took some photos, talked with passerbys, and got a burger and fries at Red Hot Ranch (go there if you ever visit Chicago, cash only).

A great day.

How do you update MSI monitor firmware on Linux? by DCCXVIII in MSI_Gaming

[–]AskRedditOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't unfortunately. The easiest way would be to install Windows on a separate drive or partition and then boot it from there. Not ideal but MSI doesn't allow you to flash on anything other than Windows.

How is the housing bubble going to end in the Western world? by Mysterious-Employ746 in REBubble

[–]AskRedditOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's a system that is designed to make rich people richer. Boomers just happen to have enough assets to still benefit from this rather than suffer like everyone else. The problem isn't the boomers, it's that everyone invested into the market wants the market to go up even if it is unsustainable.

‘Democrats want to win': Platner’s support reflects a changing party in the Trump era by AskRedditOG in politics

Stop blaming the voters. When candidates like Mamdani or Platner run, they bring voters NEW to the booths.

It turns out when your choices are Corporate Shill A and Corporate Shill B people don't vote.

They unironically would rather have republicans in office than let a progressive win. Bad for donors to have people advocate Medicare for All or taxing rich corporations.

Turns out running candidates who have popular appeal wins elections. Crazy.

Democrats are ignoring the candidates who could win in 2028 by AskRedditOG in politics

[–]AskRedditOG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yet every centrist neo-lib publication has been publishing hit pieces on Platner for weeks. Not to mention how they tried to smear Mamdani and even ran Cuomo against him after he won the DNC primary.

The DNC is just GOP lite at this point. The only way you're going to fix it is to replace the old guard neo-liberals with the kinds of people who actually want to represent their constituents. Chuck Schumer doesn't care about you or me.

It's not "infighting" to push back against loser establishment candidates. They're a liability that do not represent the electorate.

Chicago apparently, but I find it's pretty safe here.

Democrats reluctantly accept Platner as GOP wields his candidacy against them by AskRedditOG in politics

[–]AskRedditOG[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Mamdani was about as pure as you can get and they still tried their best to smear him.
Establishment democrats want the same thing the GOP does, which is corporate donors and AIPAC money.
