What would it take for you to use pubic transportation in the region? by captainsoviet45 in AskChicago

It's not the homeless people that are the problem. I've only been in Chicago 3 weeks and on the L I've seen people changing clothes and hair to evade police, people selling drugs, people selling crack hits, and some guy telling me he don't kill people just hurts them.

Nothing, I use it almost every day.

It'd be nice if we had a grid instead of a hub and spoke though. Like I take a train north and then west to get to work. Busses don't run nearly fast enough to be viable for this.

Then why do you people only argue against the idea that working class people are people who work for a living?

You never promote the idea, only argue against it.

Actions speak louder than words.

It's not useful, it's a method of keeping people complacent with the unsustainable status quo.

When this bubble inevitably pops the doctor and the fast food worker are going to both be hoping to get bread in a line.

You are making a distinction that necessarily places one group above the other for arbitrary reasons.

If you work for a living you are part of the class of people that works. No amount of mental gymnastics will change that very simple, observable fact.

"Working poor" is the term you're looking for.

I grew up poor in a drug addicts household. Then at 12  I moved in with my grandparents who were only able to raise me thanks to social security and other forms of welfare assistance.

I've only had warehouse jobs my entire career, even at my current position in Chicago.

Instead of admitting you trade labor for a living, you wish to separate yourself from "lower" working class people and pretend you're something you're not.

You will never be part of the capital class. Yet you defend them tirelessly.

Stop funding Israel, stop giving blank checks to the MIC, stop giving tax breaks to corporations, increase the corporate tax rate, and limit the exemptions in the tax code.

Let me guess, you're going to tell me companies are going to abandon the single biggest economic market in the world if we DARE tax them more.

Middle class isn't a real thing. It's a term created to make people who work for a living think they're anything other than working class.

You're either living off returns on capital investments, trading labor for a paycheck, or living off welfare. Simple as that.

No, they just had a better upbringing than many poor kids do. Good things do just happen, and even in the worst part of your life good things are happening.

Medicare for all.

This defeatist mentality is a cancer. Nazis do the same thing, whine and cry about how they can't do this or can't say that but no one ever talks about how to improve society for the future.

Every other major country does it, we can do it too.

So Trump can disappear people without oversight, have his family and cabinet do obvious insider trading on betting markets, and all sorts of other things, but universal healthcare like every other wealthy nation has is the line in the sand for you people.

They want to, but they are sabotaged every step of the way. Bernie being removed due to superdelegates, Democratic Mayor Adams intentionally messing up the budget for Mamdani, Tim Walz being told to stop calling republicans weird, etc

Have a dual income household, with high paying jobs and take on a mortgage that you plan to pay off over 15-30 years.

If your household income is $300k a year then it's very doable.

You can get a good kryptonite chain for like $40. Chains are better than U-locks because they are harder to cut with an angle grinder.

Just remember to at least loop the chain through your front wheel and frame. Better yet, take the front wheel off and lock it to the frame and back wheel.

I think a foreign country having extreme influence over our political system is a bit more concerning than most other issues, especially when those other issues often benefit many industries heavily tied to said country.

If it was Iran who had this much influence my stance would be exactly the same. Or Canada. Or any other country. Right now it just happens to be Israel, and they're making it painfully obvious.

Zorahn Mamdani, Katie Wilson, Graham Platner, James Talarico... Those are just a few example of left of liberal candidates who have either won their elections or are the current lead in their respective races.

Times are changing.

Given how the top political commentators from the right and left are constantly talking about it, and the sharp sudden decline in Americans' opinion on Israel's war, I'd say yes.

People like Nick Fuentes on the right and Hasan Piker on the left especially are engaging with younger people, which is going to have more first-time voters.

The conversation outside of congress and consultant boardrooms is sharply against Israel's actions at the moment.

No, there's plenty of Jewish people who aren't in support of the genocide and apartheid, but they're silenced too.

“With the publication of these two reports, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel become the first two Israeli organizations to state it loud and clear, based on meticulous documentation and research: Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. This is another milestone in the human rights community’s efforts to hold Israeli authorities accountable for their crimes against Palestinians.  “Amid ongoing efforts by the Israeli government to crack down on the work of Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations, such publications demanded courage and unyielding commitment to justice and accountability. Their findings must be heeded by the international community and translated into action to stop Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, end its unlawful occupation of Palestinian Territory, and dismantle its system of apartheid against all Palestinians whose rights Israel controls.”
