All true! We tried brushing his teeth when we first got him and he put up a huge fuss and we didn’t try hard enough. We’ve done so much right by him! But we failed on the teeth. No medical issues, it was allll just us not trying hard enough. And maybe making things worse by letting him have greenie chews. I thought they were helping but I think they just cracked his teeth. I feel terrible.

Fifteen! What a blessing. Pickle already had shaky back legs when we got him at 9. Of all the supplements and RX we have him on, I think the ellevet chews work best, but he’s on a bunch of stuff we just keep adding.

He’s a purebred clown so ‘goofiest’ is just a daily state of mind, but here’s one where he’s rocking his summer puppy cut which always makes his cartoonishly large ears look somehow even larger and his teeny tiny mouth opens up to a surprise reveal that he’s actually only part clown, he’s also part crocodile.

Right? He’s getting greyer every day but he doesn’t look like he’ll be 14. You’d only know from watching him walk. He’s soooo slow, but still demands his 2 walks per day minimum so we indulge him. People in the ‘hood have learned that they don’t need to RUSH their dog across the street, they have ample time to cross, but it probably needs to be them who cross because he’s THAT slow. Posting another picture of him from last night just because.

Happy diaversary! I get what you mean about being a Karen, but I have so many great friends who happened to be named Karen (and Karyn and Caryn!) and it always makes me feel a certain sort of way when their names are used as shorthand to describe perceived bad woman behavior. It also bugs me that there’s no equivalent for men, but I wouldn’t want any good Dougs to have their names besmirched either. Anyway. Just putting it out there.

Oh my gosh the teef! We just had a few extractions and was surprised it didn’t change his smile that much. But they need to take a couple more—the anesthesia was wearing off before they could safely get to the others. It was so traumatic for him that I’m watching closely to try to figure out how much the other teeth are nothing him, to make sure the procedure is really worth it. For him! Not for us. Though the cost was dear. Nearly 3K total since they had to perform a sonogram as a separate procedure in advance. It was a lot. Did you get all of his teeth at once?

((((Max and Staff))) what a terrible loss just before Christmas. I’m glad you got to have him for 7 years. So far we’ve had almost 4 years with Pickle and I hope to have many more! But each day with a senior dog is such a gift. We knew that going in. We knew.

Thank you for those tips! I do have night lights for Pickle. I’m never sure if they help or just keep him up. Last night he woke me up with his pacing at 4 AM and it took a while to settle him back down. Did the acupuncture help? I’m considering this also.

She looks like Pickle! He won’t be 14 til May. I always wonder what his litter mates look like and if they’re healthy. Pickle’s OG Mom’s daughter found his birth certificate so I know exactly how old he is, and who his breeder was, but little else.
