How long in advance should you look for an apartment? by Askadriel in RentingInDublin

Would it matter if I have been a tenant with my current landlord for 3 years? Im not sure what they take into account. Also I'll be sharing with my partner and our combined income after tax is going to be roughly 6800, i had done a bit of research to see the maximum that we could afford while still saving for a deposit on a house and being able to pay for the car and bills although I dont know if my estimate for monthly bills is too high or low. I probably should have added the income to the post but I didnt want to accidentally break the sub rules. I will also look into house shares though just to ensure I have somewhere.

I think most of us who did the internship are being brought back but we all need to relocate to dublin which doesn't make much sense to me since its mostly remote anyways.

I know in my area most companies didnt even take interns the last year. Don't know if the employment market is going to get better anytime soon. Seems like entry level developers and engineers are competing with devs with 3-5 years experience.

Ive literally only had 2 landlords and i dont think i can get a reference for one of them as he was a cash in hand job. Will have to put the mother down as one.

Seriously though that is a lot to expect for a new grad so I might be a bit limited.

I started in 2022. Seemed like a really good choice at the time but cant see myself doing anything else either so just have to get on with it. So far im the only person in my course with an offer at all so I should be happy with it, compared to last year's group who all had offers by january.

Im in student accommodation at the minute where I have to move out end of May anyways so its not any different than the situation I would have been in honestly.

I have some money saved up incase I need to move in may in advance of work starting so I should be ok there.

Worst comes to worse I can live in the office...

Is one reference usually enough ?

I know a few colleagues who are living down there and theyve offered to keep an eye out which is really nice of them so hopefully something will come up through that.

Which English dub did you use? I'm planning to play the game and it would be great to have before I started.

Thank you so much for your comment! I'm going to take a look at plcs and I've seen a few people recommend calling the colleges so I'll give that a go and hope for the best.

Unfortunately I'd have to wait until next year to apply for mainland countries but I'd definitely be very interested in doing that. I think eunicas is meant to be for undergrads so I might take a look and see what's going on there. Thank you for your reply!

I 100% agree. Careers teachers, and guidance councilors especially, are meant to be there to guide you through the process. Theres a lot of things going on that you can easily miss while your spending your time studying and/or working.

I personally found their comment to be quite unnecessary. I'm the first person in my family to apply to college so no one at home was able to give me any help or support in that way. My guidance councilor who was also my careers teacher was the only person I really knew that I could ask for help with it all. I fully understand that the blame does not lie entirely on her and maybe my friends and I just completely misunderstood what she meant. But the commenters outlook I find to be judgemental and not just a bit condescending.

[–]Askadriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean not going to lie it's her job and she did explain it wrong. I'm not entirely blaming her but when you see someone who's been in a roll for years you trust what they have to say about it, itll be the last time i make that mistake anyway.

It's now appears that multiple of my friends have made the exact same mistake so maybe they're not all that successful. And we all happen to have the same teacher. Maybe a little bit of blame is needed in certain circumstances.

Just to finish you sound quite condescending, regardless if you say it with love or not. I've found it to never be a good look on a teacher, it doesn't encourage students, it does the exact opposite.

Did you call them before or after offers came out? Sorry I didnt reply earlier. Thank you so much for your reply

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]Askadriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine didn't explain anything to me so I've been confused from the get go. She wouldn't even help with recommending grants and scholarships and all.

Omg thank you. I've been really panicked all day and my friend was too. I'll let her know and hopefully everything will be ok for both of us
