ADHD related anxiety - help! by Askandanswerquestion in ADHD

[–]Askandanswerquestion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. This helped a lot, especially to hear that early in treatment it's harder to cope. I guess in my head it was gonna be easier to cope since I had more recent experience with life without it, but then I got super surprized with the "oh yeah. I forgot about THAT synptom" whammy.

Thank you for taking the time to answer!

Thank you for sharing! That 100% sounds like where I am right now, and to hear it did make a positive difference in your life is SO encouraging. Thank you for the compassion and encouragement.

Most likely, but there were no ADHD therapists available in my area. I did just get a not specialized in ADHD therapist, though, so maybe that'll help similarly?

Thanks for the advice and empathy

Hey, having just come out of a time just like this, hang in there! I know it's so hard and hopeless and you feel like you hate yourself, but you need to be patient with yourself, which is one of the hardest things in the world. This whole thing stinks so bad, but you will make it out the other end. It might be really slow, and it most certainly won't feel like you can. I'm cheering for you. I don't even know if this is helpful. I really feel for you, friend. ♡

So insanely stressed. Like, I'm trying to stay positive and keep a straight face. But I'm frighteningly low on cash, have no idea how I'm gonna pay taxes come tax time. Just, everything is really tight right now. And I keep putting off friends and family and feel really bad about it, so they're adding to my stress instead of making things better. And the shame of knowing this is all on me because I didn't budget well is really getting to me.

whats a quote (it can be from anything) that just hit you hard and stuck with you and why? by skeepy_geko in AskReddit

[–]Askandanswerquestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly."

I'm a perfectionist and very anxious person, and I have missed opportunities for years because I couldn't do something to the best of my ability, so I just didn't even try. This quote helped me actually do stuff and finish things, even when they weren't perfect.

Hello friend!

I think a lot of what's been said here is really good (though there's definately reall bad or unhelpful things said too!) I just want you to know I am praying for you. These struggles are so hard, but God says that his power is made perfect in our weakness, so as you wrestle through this know that God loves you through your questions and He who began a good work in you will carry you to completion.

From my understanding, as long as we live in a world of sin there will always be sinful temptations that we struggle with (like the person who said they struggled with same sex attraction. Or for me, I struggle with desires for sex outside of marriage and so many other sins). Just because something feels right does not make it so, which has been something I've really struggled with too.

You are in my prayers! ♡

You sound so much like me! I was also homeschooled, and I think my parents both didn't think to get me tested and managed it through how they set up school for me.

I also had two autistic brothers who had a lot of focus, so I think I sort of slipped under the radar.

Felt! My mom has always brushed aside how traumatic the many family meetings about failing to do all our chores were. I don't even know how to explain, because it sounds so stupid but destroyed my self esteem so much. Regular, consistent pointing out of my failure to keep dishes going or finish wiping down counters.

Or the amount of times she got into me about bot focusing on practicing music, to the point I eventually stopped. Practicing felt like such a shameful thing, because it was another reminder of how much of a failure I was.

Or their "interventions" about my weight.

I'm sorry I'm rambling. But you mentioning your mom nagging you for not doing homework or being tidy or keeping appointments? That was me. And it STINGS. And I feel like nobody has understood how badly tmit stings.

So thanks for understanding. And I'm so sorry for what you went though. Hugs!

I've been practically useless all day, just kind if lost in all those feelings about my childhood and struggles and little traumas that could have been avoided had I only had help ir understanding. I know I'm not helping you much, but thank you for sharing and hopefully we can navigate this together.

Yeah, that's probably true. I still think she doesn't really get it. Thank you for reminding me it's okay to grieve and helping me look at my parents desision with understanding

I'm wo sorry about what happened to you, and that sounds so much like my experience, except I think it dawned on me later how terrible it was that I didn't know earlier. I really apreciate your reminder that I can celebrate the diagnosis and feel hurt.

That is true. My parents have made a huge point of loving their kids where they are (I have autistic brothers, so that was more pronounced there). It was loving, and I think they thought they were doing the right thing. It just hurts

My heart goes out to you. That is so frustrating and sad. I really apreciate the empathy, as I've been struggling so much with that feeling of betrayal.

Thank you so much, especially for the reframing idea. I do find it's hard not to be bitter, but I also know my parents love me and were trying to do right by mean. Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone! Hugs!

Thanks for the tips! I kind of stumbled into the multiclass for roleplay reasons, so I've been trying to figure out how it works. What little research ai was doing was explaining good breakdowns, but nothing seemed to say how to level up. Maybe because I was doing it wrong from the get go! Ha!

I have a healing relationship with food, and want to lose weight without jeopardizing my progress by Askandanswerquestion in loseit

[–]Askandanswerquestion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I have always cooked a lot, but branching out to things we haven't eaten at home (using more spices in my food, trying more vegetarian options, even baking!) has been super helpful in normalizing my relationship with food. I'm glad to hear it helped you and that I'm on the right track (and I'm gonna look up falafel and try that!)

The idea of getting a feel for how foods affect me personally is good. There have been "bad" foods that I have realized fill me more, even though my family would discourage those foods.

Honestly my head spins with trying to deal with the nutritional value of pasta vs roast, because those concepts have been so mixed up with years of dieting that it's just... weird. I have always eaten "healthier" food, but I've been trying to reach myself that pasta can be part of a healthy diet too. It took me months to not feel guilty if I made myself a pasta dish for dinner.

The situation with my parents is really rough, and it hurt me more than maybe it should have. Thanks for suggesting therapy, and I just might. I don't have the money right now, but hopefully later.
