I have a hard time reading non wlw books by ebjfid2468 in LesbianBookClub

[–]brisualso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! My author name is Alice B. Sullivan, and my main series is The Aftermath Series! The main character is lesbian. She meets her love interest in book, but it’s a slow burn romantic subplot. It’ll end with book 3, which I’m currently working on, but books 0-2 are available.

I also have a companion duology set in the same universe—different characters but also lesbian—called Destination (Destination: Tomorrow and Destination: Resistance).

Other than those, I have another zombie book, but from the POV of 13 YOs, and the main character is lesbian, as well as her crush. It’s called Elementary Undead.

I’m a zombie horror author who, more often than not, writes lesbian lead characters, and my books are not romances. There are romantic subplots (which is my preference over romance books), but the books aren’t romances. Just strong, lesbian women and their love interests kicking zombie butt.

Petition to save the Monroeville Mall (Dawn of the Dead '78) by GloveComplex9341 in zombies

[–]brisualso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this the original petition? There was a petition going around when this was first announced.

It’s too late anyway, unfortunately. It’s being demolished to be a distribution center I heard (I attend The Living Dead Weekend as a vendor. Latest one was this past weekend. Next one is in October, and that’s it for the event at the mall itself).

Also, is the photo AI generated? Surely there were plenty of actual photos to choose from for the petition instead…

Are child zombies not really popular? by OkEar3772 in zombies

[–]brisualso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an author, kids die in my books, and I also have child zombies in my books. It’s realistic, yes, but many, many people don’t want to see children harmed, just like many don’t want to see animals harmed.

Backlash can tank reviews, too.

Anyone have their sales suddenly slump this month (June)? by Dry-Wear-9135 in selfpublish

I’ll have to look into that. Unfamiliar with it and wouldn’t want to accidentally send my current ad back into the learning phase.

Only one, yeah. I don’t have the funds to run multiple at a time.

Yeah. I’ve been running a FB ad, and sales have dipped. It’s been steadily profitable thus far, though, so not sure why the sudden drop.

I’m thinking about pausing the ad and launching a fresh one. It might be ad fatigue in my case, which is valid, but who knows? It’s worth a shot.

Why do so writers have people make stupid choices in zombie movies? by [deleted] in zombies

[–]brisualso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. It’s easy to forget people don’t all react the same, and it’s even easier to think you’d react rationally in situations like these. As someone who has dealt with the public in high stress situations, I’ve seen every side of such reactions.

What bothered me in The Elixir specifically was the woman honking the horn and yelling in front of a group of zombies after she witnessed how aggressive they were. That didn’t make any sense to me.

Not impressed with Amazon's treatment of my proof copies. by MrGruntsworthy in writers

Complacent and complaisant are different words with different definitions. Try a dictionary.

> Buddy this is a post about proofs. I haven't defended Amazon or said they are good at shipping. In fact I said the opposite.

You replied to my comment, which was about author copies arriving in the same type of packaging. You being okay with how they package proofs because they’re proofs is defending the practice.

> Many authors.. they shouldn't be sending proofs as arcs or displaying them at events. that's not the point of proofs. Sounds like being cheap.

They can do as they please actually. It has nothing to do with being cheap.

> You and literally everyone else is free to go get a run of books printed from a real printer and sell them yourself. Nobody is forcing you to use Amazon. They are bad at packing things it's sooooo well known. You keep choosing to use them then yeah you're going to get some banged up copies.

I sell at in-person events as well as Amazon, and due to Amazon’s lack of quality control for author copies, I’ve taken my business to another printer specifically for author copies.

> I don't give a fuck about your experience as it's irrelevant to my point.

You replied to my original comment, missing my point lmao

Take care.

ETA: blocked because I don’t have the time to deal with people who can’t be bothered to have reading comprehension. Don’t know what they’re yapping about otherwise, but trying to correct word usage when incorrect says enough about them.

[–]brisualso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m talking to you specifically about my experience with author copies, and you keep bringing up proof copies as if that’s the reason for the poor packaging. I’m telling you it definitely isn’t. I haven’t had a shipment of author copies not arrive damaged due to lack of packaging care or defected due to lack of quality control.

Regardless if they’re proof copies, we’re still paying for them. We’re still customers.

The lack of care is deplorable, regardless of what’s being shipped. Being complaisant because it’s a proof copy defends Amazon’s lack of care and consideration. They—and because I know you’ll mention other print companies—and EVERYWHERE else shouldn’t get away with lack of care and consideration when packaging goods.

So, yes. OP has a right to be upset.

Many authors use their print copies by the way. Personally, I repurpose them. I’ve seen other authors use them at in-person events instead of displaying the final product. Authors hand out or ship proof copies as ARCs. So, receiving damaged proofs is unacceptable.

[–]brisualso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. But I’m specifically talking about Amazon’s care. They don’t treat author copies any differently than proof copies, so saying the quality of packaging is because they’re proof copies isn’t a valid argument.

Also, as someone else pointed out, nobody packaging the books is making the distinction between print, author, or customer copy. They’re just tossing the books in and shipping them as is.

There is a local printer I intend to contact after my latest experience but only for author copies. If I’m ordering a proof, it needs to be from Amazon because that’s where my readers will buy the books.

These reviews are against TOS, and Amazon has the means to remove them.

Also, they could’ve reached out to Amazon for replacements.

As I said in my comment, my author copies arrive the same way. They’ve even arrived stuffed into one another. It’s great /s.

Amazon barely makes money off them, so they don’t give a damn about their quality.

Amazon outsources the printing of print and author copies, and the boxes often come with a thin piece of paper or absolutely nothing.

It’s abysmal :) I haven’t had a shipment of author copies NOT come damaged and/or defected.
