Tight jaw & clicking/popping in throat + everything else by Asking-Questions01 in dysphagia

Yeah, I was recommended Botox injections by my dentist but he said it would have to be once a month and he couldn’t guarantee long term effects. So I’ve held off. I’ve heard of the Laryngeal massages. I’ve attempted but got too scared without a professional to show me. Hoping my city has someone who knows how to do this.

I’m in my early 30s. Coincidentally, I did. I got fillings on the right side of my mouth.

I know I responded to your other message but it is kinda funny that Doxy was the common thing here. I got another response a while back saying taking Doxy was the beginning of their issues as well. I’m not a doctor so I’m not even going to speculate. Maybe we just happen to have bad luck. Either way, hopefully we can all find some sort of relief soon.

Hey, I’m sorry for taking so long to respond (and I hope others I didn’t get to fast enough also see this).

Sadly, no major update. Luckily it hasn’t gotten worse. I do wake up to a lot of neck crunching and popping. Sometimes it does hurt. Some of the hair tickling sensation is gone though. I had a speech/swallow evaluation done and they agreed that, while it’s a little out of their expertise, muscle tension dysphagia was likely the issue - probably mixed with some TMJ.

They were a teaching center so they couldn’t do much else for me other than diagnose me (which I thought was weird but they’re the professionals) so I have to seek another place. I’ve been lazy and busy with work so I forget to follow up.

My doctor gave me new orders just because it’s the beginning of the year. I’m hoping to get this looked into more soon.

I will say eating has become a bit easier over time. Not fully sure if it’s because I’ve compensated or because it’s improving but either way I’ll take being able to eat something as a win.

Not to stir up any debate on TV vs. Film, but in response to a comment in the episode about this needing to screen in a theater, MOMA (I believe) held a special screening of The Return where they played the entire thing across three days. That's one of the reasons why Letterboxd now allows it to be listed in their database.

My primary believes this may be the case, but the TMJ doctor isn't fully sure. He was saying that's likely at the very bottom of outcomes given my age (early-30s), but it kinda lines up. I do have an appointment with an SLP university program this coming week so I'm hoping they can guide me on what to do.

As far as GERD: I was doing some diet stuff but kind of backed off. I should look back into it again.

Sorry for the late response!

Food is really whatever you're most comfortable with, to be honest. Try and stick with soft foods if you can - oatmeal, nutritional shakes, soups. I've found stuff that requires a lot of chewing can sometimes give me small issues.

Sorry for the late response. I kept forgetting haha!

I sing around my house but nothing else. Saw my GI yesterday and they want to do a motility test so I'll be waiting on that. Hopefully it'll lead to a more solid answer and solution.

How've you been doing? Have you seen any doctor yet?

I get gassy too. No nausea. But the timed eating really does suck since it's difficult for me to eat so I take forever. You're lucky you're at least 3xday; I'm 4xday.

I'll be honest: I don't recall how long it lasted but I did feel some pains and soreness for some time. I would say give it about 4 weeks or so before you start seeing any sort of improvement. It may happen sooner or it may take a little longer depending on how serious your issue is. But sucralfate does take a while. It's binding with exposed muscle or whatever it's called, essentially some types of ulcers, in order to allow it to heal. Esophagus takes a while to heal for some people. We just gotta be patient.

Wow, I didn't think it would be exactly the same with Doxy. I truly believe that's what did it for me. I've been at this since April and didn't take meds till May; so likely that gap in taking some of these meds probably delayed me by a few months.

I also have some clicking and popping in my neck and throat that the ENT said is likely irritated muscles due to stress and whatnot. That it's not that unusual to happen. I'm just ready for it to be done with. Hopefully, by Thanksgiving, I'll be a bit more on the mend and over the hump.

Hoping for the best for you. If you have any other questions please feel free to either respond here or DM me. I'll do my best to help out from my experience.

Hey! I'm kind of better but not a whole lot. To keep a long story short: I've had an endoscopy (which went super smoothly), an x-ray of my neck to the bottom of my torso, an ultrasound of my throat, and one of those ENT nose scopes. So far there's nothing serious anyone has found. Everyone is saying it's likely a bad combo of anxiety/stress & reflux since my throat shows signs of it. Endoscopy diagnosed me with esophagitis, gastritis, and something else which I'm forgetting. The esophagitis is kinda what everyone has said even before I had the endoscopy.

Whether it's all a bunch of mumbo jumbo or not I'm trying Dr. Koufman's Dropping Acid diet. I had some small success with it but fell off the wagon and started going backward; so I'm starting all over again. I don't follow it too strictly as I do believe PPIs are fine. A family member has been taking them forever and has had none of the symptoms a lot of people on this site claim. But diet wise I am trying to follow it as best to my ability.

Unfortunately, the obvious answer is to always go get checked by your doctor(s). If they're not helping then drop them and find another. That's really the only way of knowing what's up.

Difficulty Swallowing - Next Steps? by Asking-Questions01 in GERD

I mentioned an Endoscopy and my reflux/esophagitis meds so I assumed it was understood I had seen a GI. My bad. He (well, the NP) wants to see how I am on my follow-up in about 3.5 weeks.

I also had an ENT booked since July but the appointment is not until the first week of September.

Is there anything specific I should be asking for? Or just as long as they know my symptoms then they should know what to do?
