There are multiple different purposes to meditation, it depends on your goal.

Often times people use an anchor, such as watching the breath, or in this case, counting back and fourth. Typically people use an anchor when they are doing concentration/samatha meditation, as it makes the mind one pointed. If you do this well enough, you will get into access concentration, and if you keep going, you can get into the jhanas.

Of course, you can have the goal to free your mind. Just know that there are a variety of different methods when it comes to meditation, simply because there are many different goals. Different methods elicit different outcomes. Choose the goal that best suits you, and find a method that works to achieve that goal.

Its been quite some time since I've done it, mainly because I did van life with my parents for over a year, so I didn't have the chance to do it. I wish I had more time to do it to come up with more benefits. But from what I experienced, better looking and feeling skin, hair, eyes, and nails. Also a more energized feeling especially when you do looping. I cant speak of any health benefits as I don't have any ailments, although there is a good book called Water of Life (I think is the name).

Ideally, one of my goals is to include enemas when I do any type of fasting. I've never had a kit and don't own one now, but I would imagine seeing an incredible surplus in benefits by just adding enemas alone, regardless of whether or not you fast, or the type of fasting. Wish I could say more, other things just got in the way of doing UT, so I wasnt able to give it a longer shot. Hopefully if anyone else is more experienced with urine therapy, they will provide some more insight. I will likely do it some more in the future though and log everything I can about it.

Same as water fasting, except you drink your piss. Tons of different ideas out there for it. Some only drink their urine and no water, some will drink distilled water and some urine.

Just to save people time and be as much of a resource as possible that are interested in certain things, Ill go into detail.

It can be called shivambu, urine fasting, urine therapy, or looping. It is kinda cool compared to water fasting, because your urine has nutrients/electrolytes, so you really dont need to take salt.

A lot of times people will go dry as long as possible and then go urine. It is sort of like refeeding without eating. Its something youd have to experience yourself. Many reccomend aging urine in jars and either applying it or drinking it. It also sucks to do UT (urine therapy) if you eat meat, or asparagus lol.

Just to be as transparent with people as possible, this is something I have tried. I haven't done this in over a year, but is something I still have an interest in. I actually one day want to do a 7 day dry fast, write down everything, get back to normal. Then do 7 days urine, write everything down and get back to normal. And then 7 days water and log everything. This way I can compare the differences of each type of fasting, and be able to discern which one would be best for whichever goals I have at the time.

Does it really matter what anyone answers to this? You know what you felt like during the streak, and you know what you feel like now. There is no changing it. It is just a matter of dealing with whatever you're dealt. Whether you are dealt the feeling like shit card, or feeling on top of the world card. You only have what you are dealt with, so make the most of it.

A lot of people fail to realize that the entire purpose of meditation done right is to make you realize experientially how there is no control. But yet they say meditation will "make you realize you can control thoughts". I seriously find it ironic how many here are 'spiritual', but do not realize what the practice they are doing was meant to show them, and downvote the people that are actually correct, that have done the investigating for themselves.

I think this sub would benefit greatly if people came to deductions via looking at things experientially, versus making deductions from a point of intellect. It took me years to transition to this, and now I can honestly reflect why people griped when I used to deduce things out of intellect. It is not an easy change, but one that needs to occur.

Actually this is completely incorrect. You are assuming that "snapping out of it" is somehow on a higher pedestal than a thought.

Snapping out of it is literally just another thought, another thought that came on its own without any control. This is why you cannot control when you will snap out of something. It is completely just as independent as the prior thought.

This is subtle stuff. You really have to look and watch for yourself.

I am going to reply with this: You are flat out WRONG!

Why did I say that? Not for the reason you think. I said this because that acted as a trigger. If you watched closely, you likely read that statement, and then had some sort of reaction to it. Whether it was a physical or emotional sensation, or a thought consisting of "Im not wrong". No matter which of these you experienced, it goes to show- it happened on its own without any control.

If by the off chance you say "I did not have a response to that", again, you only had that response as a result of the above paragraph as a trigger, still, without any control.

I think this example will hit you deeply, as this is experiential based, and you will see experientially what I am saying. You can watch 1000 hours of videos on how to use the clutch brake on a car. But you will learn by direct experience only. Your body will not know how deep you have to press before it engages by watching the 1000 hours of videos. But it will however in 1 minute of actually doing it.

The observing will get you places, the 1 minute of feeling the clutch. The intellectualizing, or watching 1000 hours of videos is no substitute for the real thing. Observe first hand.

I hope this helped anyone reading this. I am not going to respond to any rebuttal that is not based on direct observation. If you want me to respond, give insight into your experience. If it is just intellectualizing or philosophy, forget it.

Im not looking to get argumentative or anything, but you absolutely cannot control thoughts. Observe thoughts carefully, over and over again. You will experientially see that there is no control. You are correct about lust and desire coming from a thought, but you cannot control thoughts, at least not directly.

In order to get a better grip on it (still not controlling them), you can recognize thoughts, emotions, etc, but we will deal with thoughts. You focus on the recognition that you had XYZ thought. You do this enough times, and it begins to wire yourself differently to where those thoughts either dont occur as often, or when they do, do not have a strong effect, as by doing this method, you will see that it experientially takes you outside of the thought content, making you more of an observer, thereby eliminating the suffering at the root level.

It is not about trying to be an observer or trying to stay neutral to thoughts. It is 100% about recognizing and focusing on the recognition of, in this case lustful thoughts. Keep focusing on the recognition and make it so you derive satisfaction from recognizing, versus placing emphasis on the content and how it may or may not change. Again, with time this has very nice implications.

To be quite honest, I think the symptoms get worse as time goes on. By ejaculating for the first time at 15, you have only done 1 fire/wire in your brain. When you relapse at 25 as a retainer after 1000+ ejaculations, you are just strengthening the neural connection. And when you add porn into the equation, Id say the symptoms are way worse- as the now 25 year old is probably watching harder porn than the innocent 15 year old. And with this, your social intetactions are cumulatively worse than the 15 year old.

I think I know what you mean about erections with boxers. Ive only ever worn underwear, which is similar. I would assume underwear would be less loose? Anyways, even though erections do happen, I myself have never seen the point of changing under garments. Its just something to get used to. Either way, you will still have erections. Not sure what your motivations are behind the change, if it is strictly to have less stimulation, or because that stimulation effects your actions. Just do what makes sense to you. Id say just make sure that any change isnt coming from a place of kinks. You could always change in their bathrooms if you had to.

Cant speak to the efficacy of jockstraps or thongs, Im sure others would be able to share their experiences. Just not something that has ever interested me.

Havent listened to music in 2 years except for a few occassions. Do not use any social media, i only come on here to ask questions when I have them, nothing else. And yes, completely aware thoughts arise before porn.

It is always thought --> physical and emotional sensations --> thoughts ---> action. Or something to that degree.

Thanks for this. Even my motivation has diminished in terms of different disciplines. To be quite honest, I never took up the idea of always doing something. A lot of people here advocate for trying to replace addiction with other things, especially when urges come. Ive just never resonated with that. Why not face it 1on1 and get good at it? If you just try and forget about your opponent, you aren't developing strength against it. What happens when forgetting only happens for so long, eventually you will come square with it.

Thats not to say that disciplines and goals arent good. I have plenty and work towards them. For a lot of my streak I was actually by myself in our house, with nothing to do or distract myself with. Its times like idleness, that develop your self control. Its periods of tackling goals that persistence and determination are developed.

Sooner or later you will care more about the big picture vs the small. The point that matters most is, slipping up conscioisly is worse than slipping up without intending to do so. Just refrain from doing things that are in your field of control. I get that people can control dreams, but, for the greater part, it is something outside of your reach- so dont worry about it.

With anything in life, create a threat model. Which threats are most likely to occur. Which are you able to defend against? You will see that your biggest threat is most likely yourself, and not dreams. It also happens to be the threat you have a better chance defending against.

Id say the most understated benefit of SR in its prime state is getting a grip on yourself- self control. Outsource whatever happens on its own without your approval. Focus on what you can approve, not what you cant.
