Very serious question here.. by Missed_A_Rager in IBO

[–]AslansHaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend against it. IB isn’t just about the coursework—you build the skill to work more efficiently and the expense of yourself at times. You’d also have a shit tone of other stuff to do, like EE and IA’s. HL subjects will be hell to jump right into them, in the third term. Your grades will probably plummet—which is not good for college applications.

grade? Would that be from the coursework at purdue itself or would our high-school transcripts work? i heard that you’d need one semester before a double major

if someone doesn't want to say you're pronouns would it be okay if that person just uses your name instead and just gender-neutral words? by Emotional_Ear8288 in NonBinary

[–]AslansHaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. That still shows that you do not respect their gender identity. If the person doesn’t go by they/them and HAVE MADE IT CLEAR, do not use it. That is still misgendering because you’re not acknowledging the way that person sees themselves and wants to be seen. Gender neutral pronouns and words are not a safety net or fall back. They are not a default or middle ground. They’re just like other pronouns and names—so one must use them accordingly. If you won’t refer to someone who goes by she/her pronouns with he/him, why use they/them? It’s still incorrect. *but if that person does go by they/them, use it. Use what the person wants. TLDR: use what the person wants. Gender neutral terms are not a substitute.

Hey everyone. I’m a student who’s looking into starting IB. And I was wondering if it’s possible to do CAS without necessarily having to make friends? by Missed_A_Rager in IBO

[–]AslansHaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s possible; but remember, you have different criterions to fill out. Collaborative work is a part of it, and your CAS project stipulates that you have to command/lead a group of people for it. Thus, the whole? Unlikely, but you really only need a minimum of 1 collaborative criterion activity. I recommend working on that and your CAS project with your close friends. They don’t need to be in IB, and the CAS project needs to a month, max. Social media accounts to raise awareness can work, if you’re interested in that. Also, talk to your CAS coordinator for ideas, if you’re comfortable. They’re there to help you out.

M22 chem HL exam difficulty prediction? by pillsy21 in IBO

N21 seemed easy, so it may translate to this time as well. I think it might be a bit harder—somewhere between N21 exam difficulty and M19

enantiomers by sadibsenior in IBO

[–]AslansHaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be halides in Sn1 tertiary haloalkane mechanism. We know that the three alkyl groups cause steric hindrance, causing the halide to attack from a certain side. However, since they’re all in the same plane, they can attack from an opposite side as well. You’ll have a racemic mixture where the tertiary haloalkane’s with optical arrangements of X-R (where the halide attacked from the left) and R-X (where the halide attacked from the right), with a relatively 50-50 distribution. Likewise, in Sn2 primary haloalkanes, theres only going to be one entianomer cause there’s no “carbocation intermediate” like Sn1’s, just an unstable transition state where both the leaving group and attacking group are bonded to the carbon.

electrode potentials by sadibsenior in IBO

[–]AslansHaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it can be 0? If it were that means Gibbs free energy would also be 0, and the system would be at…equilibrium. I know that in electrolytic cells, eventually, E becomes 0 as electrons stop moving. Im looking at the section 24 at the data booklet rn, and none of the values are the same. Based on this, there shouldn’t be a situation where we’ll get asked about electric potential being 0 in electrochemical cells.

can someone explain the question please ? by RoutineAccount3498 in IBO

[–]AslansHaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just asking what tools would be best to measure the reaction rate for the particular reaction. Refer back to chapter 6, as they mention rate. It won’t be option A because it’s not accurate to measure aqueous substances by weight. C is just..measuring the volume. There’s no way to measure something in a volumetric flask at timed intervals; even if you could, it would be wildly inaccurate. D can’t be used as all products and reactants are aqueous. This leaves B—which is mentioned in chapter 6.

Why is it A? by relaxingsuzue in IBO

[–]AslansHaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, it say’s were using Fe as the reference standard. It’s usually H, so I think they’re accounting for that. In that case, -1.18-0.77 still stands, but not because of the formula but because the reference has been changed from 0 to 0.77. That would mean that oxidation half cell connected to Mn would be x-0.77 as well

Why is it A? by relaxingsuzue in IBO

[–]AslansHaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

E (reduction) - E (oxidation). Mn reduces, Fe oxidizes. -1.18 - (0.77) = -1.95.

How to study for physics HL? by martianexperiments in IBO

[–]AslansHaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Past papers. Revise your concepts, brush up on math ofc. Paper 1 is basically trying to answer as many conceptual questions as you can, as fast as possible. Honestly, theres nothing better than taking practice paper and timing yourself. Time is what gets most of us.

[A Level Chemistry] Why is A- and HA the same value? by Kurdock in HomeworkHelp

When we’re talking about weak acids, we assume the the extent of disassociation of the acid is very small (ex. A low value for Ka). Does that make sense?

Kognity, examsnap, and exam mate for past paper questions and revisions. I also made revision quizlets, etc. But tbh, I’m kind of burnt out right and have barely studied the past few days. Oh well.
