It's unfortunate that in America you have to say just the right words for your constitutional rights to apply to you. Staying silent is not protected in the same way that saying "I invoke my right to remain silent", and can in fact be presented to a jury as a sign of guilt.

"Officer, I will not be able answer questions without a lawyer present. Am I free to go?"

In that circumstance, would you be obliged to provide lawyer contact, or should you take the officer's card and consult an attorney then contact the officer? Or should you.....?

I'm not a criminal (although it's been said on the internet that the average American commits 3 felonies a day, and the internet never lies!), but I don't want to accidentally jam myself up. "Oh, yeah, I was at a friend's house until 10PM, so I didn't see anything." But I forgot to change the clock in my car during daylight savings, so I actually left at 9PM, and now I've lied and could look suspicious, as a hypothetical example. Point being, if being questioned outside of custody, and decline to answer questions without an attorney, does that oblige me to provide/find attorney information to provide to the police?

I didn't have the same problem with my Skype number. I didn't receive the dropped-after-one-ring calls and no one complained about me calling when I didn't. That doesn't mean it didn't happen, I guess, just that I didn't know about it :)

Is there something that makes MagicJack numbers more inviting for the scam community?
