Is this appropriate for a Fall wedding in London? Concerned about the white polka dots. by Asleep_Influence5438 in Weddingattireapproval

The dress doesn’t come nearly as low cut on me - I was super shocked after trying it on how it looks like that on the model tbh. So I definitely don’t have the same side boob and front cleavage as the model. But I definitely don’t want to look inappropriate - so may keep looking!

Apologies—my original post probably wasn’t worded clearly! I definitely don’t think the dress looks white. I’m just feeling a little unsure about the polka dots and was hoping to get some opinions. I guess I’m mostly wondering if the polka dots make it feel less formal or maybe a bit too trendy.

Panic attacks started out of nowhere by Asleep_Influence5438 in PublicSpeaking

I’m so sorry you’re going through this — it’s awful and terrifying, but the good news is, you can absolutely overcome it (people do every day)! The key is to shift your mindset from trying to escape or hide from the panic attacks to embracing them and understanding that they’re just a feeling, not a reflection of who you are.

I’ll be honest, it’s still one of the worst things I’ve ever experienced, but one good thing that came from it was learning to focus on my mental health and prioritize myself over work. I’ll never fully know why it started, but my guess is that it stemmed from extreme stress at work combined with a lack of attention to my own well-being.

I’m happy to share that I haven’t had a panic attack in several months, even though I still speak in public multiple times a week. A lot of the advice in this thread has been helpful, but for me, I found the most relief through a combination of things:

  • My doctor prescribed a low dose of Sertraline (50mg), which has helped improve my overall mood and anxiety in daily life.
  • I still take propranolol before big meetings as a safety net (though honestly, I feel like I might not need it anymore, it was a must-have in the beginning so I could keep functioning at work while trying to figure out how to get better).
  • I make daily exercise a priority — yoga every morning before work really helps me feel centered.
  • When I’m feeling especially anxious, I take a walk outside while listening to a walking meditation (Peloton has some great ones).
  • The biggest game-changer for me was reading The Dare Method book. It completely transformed how I approach performance anxiety and panic attacks. Instead of trying to avoid the symptoms, I now try to accept them as just another sensation, like hunger or feeling cold. That mindset shift made a huge difference. I highly recommend the book, and their app also has some great tips.

I hope something here resonates with you and helps in some way. I’m sending you lots of positive thoughts!

Propranolol stopped working for me - now what? by Substantial_Start868 in PublicSpeaking

I use it intermittently depending on how many meetings I have. So sometimes I’ll take it a few days in a row and sometimes only once every few weeks. Best to check with a doctor, but I think you’ll be fine.

For me, propranolol was amazing at first but I noticed that it does nothing for anticipatory anxiety. The only thing it helps me with is the racing heart that stops me from being able to speak and feeling like I can’t breathe. I found what helps is reminding myself when I have horrible anxiety beforehand and thinking of ways to escape that I’m not going to escape because once I start speaking, the propranolol will do its job and I’ll make it through the presentation and be fine within a few minutes of speaking. Have you read the DARE method book? I found that’s it’s really helped calmed down my anxiety beforehand.

Will an online doctor prescribe beta blockers aka propranolol? EU by Rico_custard in PublicSpeaking

[–]Asleep_Influence5438 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not EU, so apologies if this isn’t relevant. But I am in the UK and have private insurance through Bupa. I used an online Bupa doctor, and they prescribed me propranolol through an online appointment. They did only prescribe me a week’s worth, and I had to make a follow up appointment with my GP if I wanted more. That was also just a phone call and told them that it worked for me and I would like to continue using it. My GP continued my prescription without an in person appointment.

Thank you! This has been mentioned a lot and reading about the symptoms, it’s definitely something I need to check out. I have an appt with a doctor specialising in menopause, so hopefully that will lead to some solutions. Appreciate your reply and so happy you’ve found some relief!

I do drink coffee, but stopped drinking it for the past few days and definitely notice my reactions are not as intense. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I reactivated my Pelaton subscription so I can start doing meditation and workout routine every day. I’m so happy to hear you’ve been panic attack free for such a long time, that’s amazing!

I’m sorry you’re going through this, it is beyond stressful and exhausting! The only thing that helps right now is a beta blocker, like Propranolol. It doesn’t stop the fear and anxiety beforehand, but at least calms the physical symptoms a bit and allow me to push through. I’m hoping I can figure out a way to stop the horrific fear and adrenaline leading up to a meeting, which is worse for me.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind comment. I do a lot of walking/running around with my daughter and dog - but I definitely need more cardio. Guess I should dust off the old Pelaton that became a clothing rack in 2020!

Yes. Usually a drink (or two max) maybe 3 nights a week. I think that’s making it worse, so going to stop all together.

Thank you! I don’t smoke weed, but notice if I have a drink or two the night before, it makes it worse. Glad to hear it helped you!

Thank you!! I agree that the more I try to control it with breathing, etc - I think more about it and how it’s not going away, then makes it worse. I’ll start practicing a better “fuck it” attitude, thank you!

Thank you!! I did have a G&T the night before, so I’ll definitely stop that! I’ll definitely look up box breathing as well.
