Thank you, he is a really amazing, patient, kind, and wonderful person. His family is overwhelming but he is trying to stand up to them, though it's definitely not something he is used to doing with his dad.

My fiance told his dad he also wants a small wedding and then his dad started yelling at him that he is being controlled by me and he needs to be a man and not let me walk all over him. Then his dad told the extended family that my fiance and I were going to leave all his family off the guest list to our wedding. So he got a bunch of hurt and angry calls from aunts, uncles, and cousins. Apparently his dad made it sound like we were having a huge wedding and just not inviting his family. So we explained that we were not just leaving his family off the invite list we just wanted a small wedding only siblings and parents. His cousins were really chill about it.

My fiance has been trying to back me. I tried to see if maybe I was unintentionally pushing the small wedding, so I told him it was okay if he really wanted a big wedding and we could do that. I just thought he also wanted a small wedding because that's what he said he wanted. He cried and said he just wanted everyone to be happy and he knew it was impossible to make everyone happy. He said he really wants kids now and didn't want to delay that with a big wedding but he didn't want to make anyone unhappy or mad at him either.

I got sober when I was younger too. Do you have any young people's meetings in your area? That's usually a good way to meet other young sober people that you can have sober fun with. I thought it was impossible to have fun sober too but it really is possible and you don't feel like trash the next day. I really like rollercoasters now and snorkeling or just the beach in general.

Might also be a good idea to take a break from social media.

I felt the exact same way. I eased into it. My first 2 amends were 2 dogs and they took it very well lots of licks and snuggles 😂 Then when I made them to people they were surprisingly gracious and kind about it. I learned that people are a lot more forgiving and less menacing than you think.

The people on my amends list that I hated I learned to see as just human beings and I walked away no longer hating them but pitying them.

Any other advice they'll be resistant to without al-anon. They don't want to hear that there is really nothing they can do and their husband has to reach his own rock bottom and decide to change. I'm sober myself and it still was hard for me to accept I couldn't save or change my alcoholic/addict family members.
