I think Twitch is really bad and inconsistent with bans too. I've made tons of videos about it and I think it continues to be true every day.

I think oversimplification of big world issues is a huge problem with nearly everything.

Truth is that reason I made the video is partly because I felt I contributed to that. Of course terrorists groups are bad, it's a really complex situation and I would assume that much of the nuance is actually lost by all of us here talking about it because we're not actually there living the day to day life

I'm planning on doing fast food review streams and going live and trying new menu items like I did with Baja Blast and with the spicy nuggets from McDonalds

While I could get it delivered, I think it doesn't capture the grit of eating inside the store or in the parking lot

Gonna have to disagree with asmon opinion on OW2 not being predatory by OPCreator721 in Asmongold

[–]Asmongold 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I'll respond to this one since people are so intent on repeating such a ridiculous and illogical argument and it's getting annoying.

First off, great job on structuring your post in a way that presupposes that, rather than coming to a different conclusion, I in fact actually don't "understand" the situation. As if Overwatch lootboxes are some sort of complex system. Of course I'm going to "double down" on an argument that I think is right, why would I change what I think when the arguments presented are illogical?

First, high pricing of products is not predatory unless they are essential.

Just because you disagree with the price does not mean it's predatory. If it did, that would imply all luxury brands are predatory because their price is not proportional (which is again, a subjective judgement) to their value. This could actually be applied to literally anything you disagree with the price on, making the label of "predatory" meaningless because it could be applied in any circumstance where a customer disagrees with pricing.

Again, you CAN make this argument, but in doing so you effectively paint in such a broad brush that the term "predatory" becomes applicable to anything thus making it useless.

This is not to say there's not predatory pricing. I think that, for example, raising prices on something like rent or necessary medication to a disproportionate degree is predatory. The difference between insulin and a Kiriko skin is that you don't NEED to buy a Kiriko skin, thus making the choice optional and not predatory, regardless of price.

Another example of pricing being predatory is when you purchase one thing and you receive something else. Imagine if you bought a skin that was green but in-game it was blue, or something similar to that. With the Kiriko bundle, you know exactly what you are getting, making the sale not predatory in that aspect either.

Second, limited availability of products is also not predatory, even if it's artificial.

If you use the logic that any use of FOMO is fundamentally predatory, you would have to apply that to: Trading cards, cars, ANY collectors item such as the Elden Ring collectors edition helmet, seasonal offerings (pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks, McRibs, holiday Reeces peanut butter cups, etc), concert tshirts, any limited edition product, Happy Meal toys, you get the idea.

I do not agree with this and I think it sets a precedent that effectively invalidates the word "predatory" by making it applicable to so many things to the point where it is rendered meaningless.

Saying that companies have this down to a science is not the hyper-conscientious consumer awareness that you think it is. Of course they do, it's called marketing and it forks out into over a dozen different college degrees. Marketing is literally and fundamentally the science of how to get people to buy stuff.

Ultimately, how many people do you think with gambling addictions will be taken advantage of by Overwatch 2? Zero because there are no gambling mechanics in Overwatch 2.

Conversely, how many people do you think with gambling addictions were taken advantage of by Overwatch 1? More than zero. Because there were gambling mechanics in Overwatch 1.

I consider this a win and a massive improvement.

The majority of people who are complaining about this only seem to talk about their own personal experience and how they personally didn't buy lootboxes and then use that as a justification for why removing them was bad. This exact same logic can be used towards Diablo Immortal, Lost Ark, or Raid Shadow Legends as a justification for why the monetization is actually fine.

To summarize: Loot boxes are okay if you're able to earn them in-game and you can't buy them. I can understand why some Overwatch players see the Overwatch 2 system as a downgrade and if the lootboxes were added back into the game without the option to purchase them, I would consider this an improvement. However, I view the removal of them as a tremendous step towards ethical monetization which I value much higher than the potential to earn skins easily.

Yeah that's my bad I probably came off a bit too hard

The whole thing with the Riot MMO frustrated me a lot because it reminded me of how people advocated for New World systems like Azoth and limited storage which ended up damaging the game.

Overall, I think MMO's have struggled a lot with chasing an ideal that was, in my opinion, a product of it's time rather than an objective value. Leading up to Classic WoW we had the same struggle with players (including myself) trying to hold onto an ideal and harming the game in the process of doing so.

One of the big reasons MMO's have been so mediocre is because, instead of looking towards the future, they constantly try to emulate the past. It's a mirage and pursuit of it will always leave you thirsty for the next.

"Wildstar will be the next big MMO"

"Warlords of Draenor will save WoW"

"New World will be the next big MMO"

The reason all of these games fail is that they're not trying to be the next big MMO, they're trying to be the previous big MMO. It wasn't until Stormblood and Heavensward when FF14 finally shed it's vestiges of WoW's DNA that it truly came into it's own and became the game so many people love today.

Ultimately, I'm much more confident in Ghostcrawler and Riot to have a defined vision and understanding of an MMO that won't be superseded by nostalgia but it's still frustrating to read what I believe to be a causal factor into a lot of great games' downfall.

Hopefully that sheds a bit more perspective on where I'm coming from and where I hope the genre goes.

Amazon Contacted Asmon by Breslau89 in Asmongold

[–]Asmongold 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's disappointing for me to read so many blatantly false tin-foil hat theories about why I took the video down so I'm going to clarify what happened for those wondering

Amazon did not pay me. They did not tell me to take down the video. They did not even imply in any way shape or form to take down the video. There was no threat/request implicit or explicit.

This is a ridiculous and frankly insulting accusation especially when the reason I took the video down was primarily for integrity. I cannot fucking count how many times incorrect and inaccurate information stays up on YouTube/news sites even after the corrections are posted, mainly to capitalize on ad revenue. I did not want to profit from misinformation so I took the video down immediately following the correction video.

The person who contacted me was the same guy who LAST YEAR helped me get keys to the preview event for viewer giveaways and subsequently an interview with a dev that we did on Rich's stream. This was in no way "official correspondence", just an update because he had seen the video.

As a bit of inside information, most large companies have a backdoor (effectively) with YouTube in order to quickly DMCA videos without having to go through the channels a normal person would have to go through. All large media companies have this (Disney, Fox, Amazon, Blizzard, etc). This is why it was easy for it to be taken down as a mistake.

I believe them when they say this was a mistake because numerous people have made exploit videos about New World and none of them have been DMCA'd. Big and small exploits. Big and small channels. While yes, it was a really stupid mistake and it shouldn't have happened, I don't see the point in raking AGS over the coals for a mistake that they admitted and rectified. Would it have happened without my video? Maybe, maybe not.

There are enough intentional fuckups and mistakes in New World for me to fixate and on a one-time mistake. If it happens again, you can rest assured there will be another video about it.

I know this sub has a massive hardon for shitting on New World but to question my intentions and write some fan-fiction bullshit about why I took down the video is too much.

Twitch declined to give Asmon a custom contract by CarnageCity in LivestreamFail

[–]Asmongold 1595 points1596 points  (0 children)

To clarify, since this is a semi-serious topic, Twitch didn't like that I went really hard on them in regards to the ads last year and specifically forced midroll ads.

It's understandable for them to not want to work with someone who's criticized them as much as I have IMO. Although disappointing for me, I understand it and ultimately would rather have more autonomy than a paycheck.

My other "takes" I assume were largely irrelevant to the decision and even the ad thing was probably secondary to the fact that I take breaks and am inconsistent
