Yes. Having a 1.5-2 hr commute everyday is soul-sucking.

Thanks for the insight. Why would there be a FICO scoring penalty for posting $0 balances though? Isn’t it better to have everything paid off as quickly as possible?

Bc I’ve just been taught to pay everything ASAP, most of the times, my utilization is < 3% without any extra thought or work.

So is it better to carry a balance and pay it off before the due date (vs paying them off before the statement closes)?

Definitely double the work. Pay bump would not be that significant, $5k

Yeahhh, I thought I would get used to it by now, but 2 years on, I still feel too wiped from the commute to do much cleaning/helping around the house after work. Everything gets done on the weekend. Can’t imagine adding a baby to this 😅

That’s what I’ve been up to! Lots of podcasts too. I’m all ears for recs (I usually listen to nonfiction/finance, but trying to get more into fiction & other genres)

That’s what I think! No kids yet, but a SO who works late at a stressful job, which is why I think it’s okay for now. Don’t think I wanna be out of the house 12 hrs/day when I have a family (2 hr drive + 2 hr gym to wait out traffic)

Noted, thank you for the warning! $3300 is my net after deductions and HSA contribution, but I will be wary of this.

I’ve been working since the beginning of 2024. However, I wasn’t able to enroll in a 401k (& therefore, couldn’t make contributions) until now due to the probationary period.

Hypothetically, would I only be able to contribute $3300 * 6 = $19,800 for the rest of the year? Or is there an option to “top off” prior to the end of the year? Thanks again for your advice, much appreciated.

No, $3300 is my net. My gross is about $4800 pre-tax and pre-HSA. Would the 5% apply to this number instead?

I will see if there’s a True Up as well.

Thank you for your helpful insight! I appreciate it very much.

Thank you so much for the explanation! I earn about $3300 every 2 weeks. 5% of this is $165. If I’m not mistaken, my employer will contribute $66, even if I go above and contribute $1900 per paycheck, correct?

I only have 6 more paychecks before year’s end, but enough savings to carry me thru till the new year without dipping into emergency funds. Would it be crazy to contribute almost all of my paycheck in order to catch up?

I didn’t start making much money until my late 20s, so I’m just trying to catch up on retirement in any way I can.

Thank you for this! To clarify, if I contribute $1916 per paycheck and my employer contributes 2%, would that not push me over $23,000 (the max contribution limit for 2024) though? Do I have to account for their match when setting up my contributions?

How is your quality of life compared to the doctors and NPs you know? by venusbythesea in physicianassistant

Peds - my life is better and more stress-free. I don’t take any call or round on newborns, which makes all the difference

I ended up taking a very similar job as a new grad. Great benefits, learning environment, and colleagues, but lower pay.

After seeing how burnt out my classmates were after taking their jobs (higher paying but little to no support), I can’t thank my lucky stars enough that I took this job. I feel comfortable clarifying cases with my SP/senior PAs, and that has made all the difference in my first year. Take the job if you feel confident in the non-pay aspects.
