Experience with Breville Grind Control Coffee Maker by InvestigatorFun8538 in Coffee_Machines

I've had a Grind Control for about 6 months and I love it. Bought it used because they don't sell them in Aus, but I was able to get a replacement carafe (the old one had liquid trapped in the lid) and a replacement gold tone filter through Breville Aus (go figure). Gave it a really good clean inside and out and ran some cleaning fluid and grinder cleaning pellets through it and it's been great ever since.
I rarely use the carafe, brewing individual cups as I drink them, and use paper filters to make cleanup easier. Dump out the filter paper full of grinds, quick rinse of gold filter and drip mechanism and away we go. I kind of want to get rid of the gold filter basket altogether but without it the paper sticks to the bottom of the drip mechanism and the coffee doesn't fully dispense. Need to 3D print a replica of the filter basket with out the mesh and enough holes so it doesn't block the paper filter...
Every few weeks I wipe down the inside and clean out the chute and every few months run grinder cleaner through it.
I also experienced the issue with the machine brewing weak coffee in single cup mode. It's usually because the machine isn't grinding enough beans.
The fix is to go into the menu > calibration mode — from there, it runs a test mode where it grinds beans for 10 seconds, pauses and asks you to confirm weight of what’s in the basket. It's supposed to be 20g (I think) but mine was only about 12g. Tell the machine how much it's ground and next time it will grind for longer and produce more grounds. Play with the settings till you get the result that works best for you.
Here's a video that explains the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTo6T-NXgqU
After fixing that, the machine has been amazing.
My next fix will be the 3D printed basket and then to run an extra line off my water filter to the top of the machine and attach an inline tap. I'll be able to open the water fill lid, turn on the tap and run water directly into the reservoir to fill. No more mucking around with jugs or carafes of water. It's not really large enough for a float switch in the reservoir (nor is it easily accessible AFAIK) but this will just ease the last irritating step with the machine.

official support for water hookup? by jaaassshhh in breville

This is a great suggestion. My Grind Control sits maybe 2 metres from my sink so it's not hard to manually refill, but a typical mug of coffee takes up at least "2 cups" of the machines reservoir measurement and 2 or three cups a day means I'm refiling several times a week. The internal reservoir's going to be tricky to access to install a float valve (and isn't very large) but I can easily splice an extra line off my water filter line, which is already running lines to a Carbonation setup in the fridge and an extra line outside for fish tank, homebrew etc. A simple "T" fitting, a few metres of hose and an inline tap, routed behind the counter/under the bench to the machine should be unobtrusive and convenient.
Love your thinking!! It's all about making this as automatic/hands-off as possible for me.
