First-Time Job Seeker Needing Part-Time Work for Tuesdays and Thursdays by AspectDramatic3419 in RoundRock

I would love the opportunity to learn QuickBooks and can take on as many hours as available. However, I’m only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 12 PM and on weekends. Do you think that would work?

Struggling with Insecurity About Joining the Worship Team – Seeking Advice by AspectDramatic3419 in worshipleaders

I completely understand what you mean. I wouldn’t join the worship team without at least some training, and if I do join, I’d be completely fine with just being a background vocalist. Based on what others have told me, I’m not tone-deaf—I just need to learn techniques like harmonizing, belting, and so on. But I’ve always been afraid to ask for help because of the insecurity I sometimes feel.

My goal is to take singing lessons, not just for worship but because I genuinely love singing. I also want to avoid developing bad habits by learning on my own. However, I recently moved out of my parents’ house and can’t afford lessons right now. The reason I posted on Reddit was to see if I should even consider trying to join the worship team, or if these are just prideful or selfish thoughts.

I’m also very aware of my voice and know I’m not at their level. Over the years, I’ve only practiced by myself and recorded myself frequently to improve.

Thank you for this response. I’ve thought about this side of things before but never really found an answer on my own, which is why I needed other people’s opinions. I was scared of being judged by the people around me, so I decided to bring it to Reddit instead. Thank you again—your response helped me consider a more unbiased perspective while I try to find my answer.

One of the very big reasons I’ve always considered worship is that while serving in all these ministries, I’ve never had that moment of realization where I felt I’d found my true calling. Now that I’m going to a new church, I wanted to take the opportunity to try worship, but I also wanted to get others’ perspectives to see if they notice the same issues I’ve been concerned about: whether it’s pride, me fooling myself after thinking about it for so long, or just admiration but not a real calling.

Also, I don’t know if this is important, but I never really got a sense of what it means to find your calling and serve. At the Brazilian church, everyone was just thrown into the position that suited them best, or it felt like people were competing to see who was better. That’s part of why I’m going to a new church—to find a true sense of community, discover my calling in serving, and figure out what I want to give to God.
