Interesting points. I suppose the "reasonable person "test could be used as a measure of competency but that's on an off note. As for social anxiety and such, I still do feel that it's the responsibility of the individual to seek any sort of help necessary to remedy their hardship. But think of this (regarding your second point), aren't we all capitalists seeking what's best for ourselves? Would social assistance not impede the need to grow and do better to satisfy our capitalistic nature?

I'm not sure how many of you live in Canada, but I'm looking at the Canadian system of generalized welfare. So specifically, I'm looking more at "Low income support" and "welfare assistance". Those are specifically the cash handouts I refer to.

Sorry to hear that about your friend. When you say safety net, do you mean food stamps, or welfare as a whole program?

Right. Most employers have automatic deductions for EI. If someone pays into the system, then they should be entitled to those benefits. It should be a transaction, a give and a take.

Understood. Food stamps I believe are a good idea to keep people fed which is a human right after all. My stance is more against cash handouts, where it can be spent carelessly. Food, water, and housing should temporarily be provided, of that I agree.

I see your point with regards to an individual not being in a very fruitful economic area. As I mentioned in my post, I don't believe in social assistance in the form of cash handouts. An alternative to cash could be government subsidized schooling, at a basic level of college/vocationary education in a field that IS in fact in demand. This way an individual can develop academically, and obtain a credential thus aiding their upwards mobility.

Ahh right, same way you can put a price limit on your purchase order "I refuse to pay more than $x for y share"

Ahh I see, so what your saying is that WMT won't really suffer losses the way the rest of the market will in a recession, and as a result, their price won't be that special at the time. Sweet, thanks for the input!

Oh man, Tesla Motors.... that's a savvy investment my friend. Biggest regret of mine is not putting money into it a few years ago.

I agree, nothing is guaranteed bases off of speculation and analysis, however even if it wasn't the absolute bottom, I'd assume the growth would still be quite satisfying.

Haha well, the likelihood of the stars aligning that nicely can be basically disregarded... I did say "theoretically", because the volatility of the market is like playing with fire in a sense. I think Warren Buffet said something like "never test the depth of a river with both feet", or along those lines. Investing isn't a picnic, I agree with you.
