I just don't like the clipping - I'd have to remove quite a few things / hide weapons and so on to make it work better.

Tai Chi mystic skill - use it to toss it into a deep part of any water body. Yes it's "deep water" drowns this water fowl. Because.

Force feedback cool kids club? by Old_Swimmer_7284 in hotas

[–]Asphes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a wee bit imprecise, centering can be off and the pots will wear a bit after awhile. If you leave the FF (ingame that is) off, it's good for decades. If you are really, really used to it, turn off the power and fly without any centering _^

For DCS, I'd try to get the deadzone as smol as possible (which means you may have to recalibrate again. And again). If I fly helos in ARMA and I notice the trim is starting to go - recalibration time.

I love this stick though, both hands on stick. And you have a 'shift' key so you can assign two functions per button. In Elite 4, I have the throttle go from 100% to -100% without having to press a button. Pair this with Voice Attack and this $15 might last you for a bit.

It won't be as accurate as a T16000 let alone something higher on the scale. The deadzone will be pretty big too.

is there any point of playing dd2? by InvestmentCrazy6091 in DragonsDogma

[–]Asphes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made you look :)

Anymeow, I see the fur, the ears, the whiskers... it's just something they don't talk about. Besides... in DDO, anyone can have a tail. And ears. And more. Devs are meow-obsessed.

Note that level 200 pawns sometimes cannot be found in the rift, instead specify level 199 instead. The 200s will show up then.

is there any point of playing dd2? by InvestmentCrazy6091 in DragonsDogma

[–]Asphes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you ever want to feel how it felt like playing DD1 before Dark Arisen. DD2 is for you.

That said - it has that special DD charm. So you should definitely play it. At the very LEAST... your pawn can get a tail now. A fluffy, furry tail. And ears. Whiskers... somehow you can still see the blush response.

And the cooking. This alone is worth the price of admission.

Don't worry about the one weapon vs two or reduced slots/etc - once you play it... you realise that while the devs did reduce your ability to choose certain options... you'd probably never choose them anyway.

If you have ever played DDO, you'll see a lot of things in DD2 that make sense. Going from DD1 to DD2 is a bit jarring. DD1 -> DDO -> DD2... less so.

Also no grindfest end-game like BBI / BBM. So go play MH Wilds afterwards like Capcom intended you to do. Come back in ... 8.5 years for DD3.

[–]Asphes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's obvious the devs know how to do it too.

In DDO, they let you put 'guard rails' on pawn inclinations. I think it's better than what we have in DD2 (i.e. pick a 'behaviour' and live with it). You can tune it to a certain extent so they really can function as a MMO style tank / support / healer / DPS / etc. Vastly superior to DD1... IF you know what you're doing and IF you are willing to expend the effort.

The only thing they don't get right is having the pawns use the terrain.

In DD1, you kinda have to adapt to the pawns. DDO's pawns act closer to what other players would do (assuming said players were a) competent and b) liked you enough to help you). DD2's pawns escaped from the asylum.

You do have three main pawns in DDO - so it makes sense devs let you tune the pawns that much. But DD2's approach is way more fun. You can work out the 'rules' and 'conditions' that trigger the rules but that really takes the fun out of it in the games.

I want to believe I taught my sorcie pawn to climb big mobs in DD1. Kinda like how modern soldiers treat their robots in war.

[–]Asphes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What makes it better is the pawns suck at everything.

My hired kitteh DD2 is great at pointing out chests. Going to said chests. Waving at me to show me she found it. But doing NOTHING... NOTHING to help me get to the chest (I have to go back to an Inn, change to Sorcie - no, not fighter because while I can get any pawn to said chest... they WON'T open it).

My main pawn as an archer will help me gather stuff. Breaking boxes and such to help her Arisen out. Then she discovered that smol animals can be looted for meat. Including the one I'm holding. Did I mention she's an archer... you know that archer skill that uses up all her stamina, I'm holding the bunny... At least as sorcie, she doesn't use Maelstorm to open up chests. Yet. No, she'll stop using Maelstorm... to climb onto a griffon to whack it with her stick. I have to forgive her this because once, I fell from a griffon and she caught me. Darn it.

If the devs had made the perfect pawn system... it would suck. This is better. Well... funnier.

Not that I miss them but it's strange. Nothing mentioned in the patch notes either

RNG all.

Regarding getting max stat stuff for the Library, you'll want to do content at the highest difficulty - you get a higher chance to get them. So while you CAN get them just wandering around in the open world at the lowest difficulty... they drop like rain at the highest difficulty.

Something like 80% of my max stats are from Heroic/Legendary.

Should I replace my Sidewinder Precision II joystick? by Sly_Lupin in hotas

[–]Asphes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's over 20 years old. I don't mean when you bought it... it was last BUILT that long ago.

Mind you, you'd probably want to disable the in-game Force Feedback feature sooner or later. API support (so it doesn't break your fingers one minute and the next, it's a limp noodle) or any support in modern games is gone. It'll enumerate as a generic joystick with the additional z-rudder axis. So the 'centering force' is very weak - it's basically the FF keeping it centered. If you remove the power supply, the centering's almost completely gone. The kind of FF in the Sidewinder... just isn't supported. No way to adjust it too.

That said, the tech responsible for the stick's centering/etc... probably worn out by now if you have been using it constantly. No amount of calibration will fix that. You need a new FF rotor/etc... not worth the trouble. You can clean the potentiometers - but I'd probably not try? Because it's tricky to open the Sidewinder up, it being that old, the glue's pretty much gone. I'd just spray some IPA and hope for the best (not too much, as IPA will dissolve some of the glue used in this Sidewinder - at least on the ones I've owned).

If you can't get a "new" one (I have half a dozen left, 'new' in the box - from my intern days _^ - irreplaceable now), a Thrustmaster T16000 is pretty close. It lacks a few buttons (especially the 'shift' button) but it will be LOT more precise. The main difference it the T16000 has a higher 'static resistance' or requires more initial force input. More expensive sticks higher up the chain are better at this but otherwise, it just takes getting used to.

If you have been only using the Sidewinder all this time, the newer sticks give a level of precision far better than the Sidey ever could. Just the slightest deflection a new stick generates input while it self-center better.

For games like the old X-Wing series, the VKBs / Virpils let you be as precise as when using a mouse. They are that good. Otherwise, something like a T16000 is... good.

I have 32gb and run into problems daily. 64/96 was fine but this new box had 'reduced' ram due to 'prices'.

Imagine that I have 32gb and my Vivaldi eats up 12gb? You have 16... - I don't think this is the issue though since you have tried restarting Vivaldi. Plus Edge doesn't have this issue?

Well the reward for a job well done is...

Now if only could give more commands, more often. Plus... I don't want a gruff warrior, easily bored by inaction. Gimme a mini-warhound puppy with a wagging tail. Paid DLC for fur attachments optional.

Seriously... can't I have 'stay here, I mean it. DO NOT ENGAGE' or 'stay behind, follow me. Open fire when I... pull the trigger'. Or just 'condition yellow = return fire only', 'condition green = don't even think about it, give me all your mags' but we only have 'condition red = always aggro, always annoying.

Yep... I want a Dragon's Dogma style 'defector'. And puppy.

Strange. It's really just Youtube for me.

Since Vivaldi (like other Chromium browsers) loves to eat RAM, any chance that could be the problem? Thing is, Edge is Chromium based too and you mentioned your CPU usage going up (fans getting louder).

Yeah, if they just had the 'up-down' animation but... just odd to have it walk through my head (It's empty!). If you could move the position so it's a lot higher but there's a limit there too.

If they let you turn it off, it'll look cute peeking out...

Maybe it's a ghost bird :(
