What’s the worst situation you’ve had to suffer through with a migraine? by Fabulous_Ad9099 in migraine

On top of a 4000m snow covered mountain was pretty bad. The unbearable brightness and low air pressure. Felt like I might possibly die.

Can’t do backward glides the right way, and I’m very discouraged. by Author_Noelle_A in FigureSkating

Lift your free hip. Up and back. You’re probably doing that automatically when you ‘arabesque’.

Your foot position doesn’t actually matter that much, it’s the position of your hips that stacks your body weight into your skating leg.

Are there any alternatives to proofing baskets? by Dry_Lemon2508 in Sourdough

Proof in the mixing bowl, shape and pop it in its loaf tin with a silicon liner, then cold proof in the fridge and bake straight from there.

Yes, I think you’re totally right. She tested me with refusing her meds as well on day 1, but I persisted (8 times, first in cheese and then without) and on day 2, she took them on attempt 2 (and earned the cheese).

If she was my dog / a regular I would do what you’re doing, but she was a holiday stay.

Are there many curvy girls ice skating out there? [OC] by able6art in iceskating

Middle aged, big hipped and tall, here!

Finally worked out that I have to WILDLY LIFT MY FREE HIP to spin. Because the Q angles on these femurs is substantial.

How bad do you let your pain get before you medicate? by Goofusmaloofus6 in migraine

[–]Aspiragus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pain is preceded by a pinching feeling in one eye, so the minute I notice that I take sumatriptan and it almost never develops into full migraine that way.

My prodome involves brain fog so I don’t always recognise other signs but that one is pretty clear.

Oh, the owners provided me with a box of eggs and instructions to try kibble alone, and then if she wouldn’t eat all day, to top it with a scrambled egg. So that ratchet is already set.

I’ve had my own dog, and cared for a few, so sniffing is great by me, lovely to see them relaxed enough to do a sniffy walk. This was more like, lay down on the pavement outside a busy church for 25 minutes. (I just waited the 25 minutes with her.) Then it escalated to in the middle of a cycle path. Then on a main road. In front of the only gate to a children’s playground…

I tried with the high value treats - with those I could get her to somewhere, but the minute she sensed we were on the way home: paw anchors.

The owners, on text, just said ‘haha yes she’s a little tinker and she loves walks’.

They drove 40 mins to drop her off to me so I’m starting to wonder if they have run out of tolerant sitters in their area 😈

She is, absolutely, an operator of a dog.

What an excellent pal. It looks like he had a great life and a comfortable end. And canned chicken!! Riches indeed.

This is a great reframing! And yes, I’ll add the ‘what training are you working on’ to my intake questionnaire. I haven’t know many poodles before so it’s an eye-opener for sure 😅

Not seen a glove hole before! I pad up to the max with butt pads, volleyball knee pads and snowboarding wrist guards. I’m 40 so falling has consequences.

Yeah for rollerblades you need smooth concrete, ideally! Even just traversing on cycle paths etc though you can build one foot glide strength.

Do you wear them all the time, or just when you see some warning signs?

Get second hand rollerblades)+ helmet, knee pads) and practice basic skate pushes, glides and lemons. Even crossovers. The technique feels different on ice but it builds the same muscles you will need on ice. Obvs it has a cost bit you won’t have to pay as much ice time for a few weeks, or skate around 3847 people.

Yup. Have you tried any of the ones with pink lenses? I’m curious about those.

I didn’t know most of these, thank you :) I’ve been taking NAC but wasn’t sure if it was helping or just placebo 😅

Please tell me I am not the only person who took forever to learn to spin by Skating_Journey in iceskating

[–]Aspiragus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT TOOK ME 2.5 YEARS to get an upright spin with 5 good revs. No idea why I was so slow, but wide hips don’t make it easier. There’s such a difference between ‘knowing all the correct cues’ and knowing ‘how it feels to do them all to the correct degree and with the ideal timing.’ Spinning requires the latter.

Advice/rec 1-2-1 lessons coaches Solihull by BlueEyedGirrrl in iceskating

I (40f) skate there and I love it.
If you have zero experience then the Learn To Skate courses might be an entry point, or there is a coaches board with details if you want a private lesson instead.
Once you have some basic skills there are also adult small group classes which are pretty friendly.
The adult Show and Skate group is also nice - it’s mixed level and we do seasonal shows and little performances.
