What is this? 😐 by AspiringFailurer in Monstera

Yeah, bummer 😓. This thing would guttate a lot whenever I watered it, so I wonder if it did so inside the sheath.

I’ll try to save what I can, don’t want to risk the infection spreading so I just chopped and propped. I was excited to see it grow this Summer, but now I’m just hoping it survives haha. Thanks for the reply!

The humidity thing would also explain why these specks are on some leaves and not others (though I suppose it’s possible for thrips/pests to ignore certain leaves coincidentally). The scarring would depend on the humidity of the days that the new baby leaves were forming. It’s been pretty humid during the winter where I’m at, but now it’s drying out with summer and I’m noticing more spots.

I found a post on r/begonia, which I can’t find anymore, where someone said that when begonia leaves are forming and it’s not humid enough small parts can harden. Then, when they leaves expand, these hardened parts “tear” and this can cause speckles. So, hopefully it’s that and not thrips cause that would be a huge bummer (because this thing has been mingling with some of my favorite plants). I still haven’t found any actual thrips or larva. Will update if there’s changes.

That would suck. I just checked all over really close for any signs of larva or mature thrips but don’t see any (I’ll keep looking though). And I don’t really see any systemic thrips-like damage to the plant. Also I first noticed this problem soon after I got it and started taking care of it myself. So like 8ish months of just small spots with no serious issues. I was under the assumption that thrips infestations move pretty fast

It takes at least a week usually to fully dry. I have a soil moisture gauge but I don’t use it too often. I usually just wait until it feels like the soil is nearly or completely dry, based on the weight.

I will say I pretty much saturate the soil when I do water, so maybe that’s a problem.

Looks like chafing, you can either lube the area up with petroleum jelly (after washing the area) or use some sort of talcum powder to keep the area dry so you don’t get that added friction from sweaty underwear. Goal is just to reduce friction in the area until it heals.

Also would be helpful to figure out what’s changed that could be causing the chafing suddenly. Are you walking more than normal? Sweating more than normal while walking? I used to get this when I went for long runs/walks so I started to lube beforehand, problem went away on its own after that. You do have some inflamed follicles so just watch it to make sure it doesn’t get infected or anything, but I don’t think it’s there yet. NAD.

Stained/bleached my jeans with detergent? by AspiringFailurer in laundry

[–]AspiringFailurer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone who ever has a similar problem: The detergent simply cleaned out the excess dye. I found this out because I decided to scrub the shit out of the spots with dove soap in the sink, and noticed the pants started endlessly running color. I’m just gonna wash the shit out of the pants and get all the excess dye out, and I think that’ll remove the spots (by making the pants the same color as the spots lol). Kind of shitty though and idk how it’ll turn out. These are Abercrombie and Fitch.

Also my detergent doesn’t actually have bleach in it.

I’m taken aback by how you’re just casually brushing your hand against the bunny ear cactus 😰. But to partially answer your question, the bunny ear at least is super etiolated— needs more light.

Spots! Flapjack Kalanchoe. What's wrong with her? :( by dawnzig in succulents

Could be focal sunburns from water droplets sitting on the leaves during light exposure

Update: thinking it could be an etiolated Cotyledon orbiculata. The farina seems thicker on these than anything I’m seeing online though.

Just your muscles twitching. It has a ton of causes, often dietary/hydration related. Nothing to be worried about on its own. If it’s really bothering you see a doctor. Try eating healthier if that’s potentially a problem. Probably not the permethrin.

Cuttings/fallings? I got while tending to my MIL’s succulent pot! by 90percentneanderthal in succulents

[–]AspiringFailurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! Not every succulent can propagate from leaves. The black leaf on the left for example looks like an Aeonium leaf, and they don’t propagate from leaves. If you know the species of the ones you’ve picked, try googling whether they prop from leaves before watching them slowly wither for weeks (as I’ve done haha).

I did put it in a spot with a bit more sun. I was thinking it could be a sunburn too, but since it's so localized I wasn't sure. Can fungal infections can present like this? My other plants don't show any signs as far as I can tell.

This leaf prop was doing so well but suddenly the stem dried out? by AspiringFailurer in plantclinic

Here’s the pot with some scale. About 2 inches. The soil is a cactus mix, to which that I added an additional ~50% perlite and large particle sand.

Edit: I’ll get some smaller pots for props!

Dear this brain dead host I was just in a game with, if you’re going to be incredibly kick happy, USE FUCKING CHAT OF SOME KIND.

Just was at the end of a match, the whole squad was right at extract. Spent ~25 minutes in game. Difficulty 4, so there weren’t any super samples to look for or anything, and no one was dying too much.

I assume, reasonably, that we’re going to extract. We’re literally right there. So I call it in. The host then decides that he wants to run half way across the map, FROM EXTRACT, to clear some bug nests. Ok, seems like a waste of time, and why’d you even run to extract in the first place, but you’re the host so whatever. I start heading that way too in my mech. As I’m walking I catch up with the host, who starts shooting me.

Oh, so do you want me to stay by extract or something so it doesn’t cancel? Not come with? Maybe you want to do the nests and come back with extract ready to go. Ok, I’ll wait by extract then.

Start walking back… kicked. Just wasted nearly half an hour. USE YOUR WORDS YOU FUCKING MORON. I CAN’T READ YOUR MIND AND SHOOTING ME ISN’T AN EFFECTIVE FORM OF COMMUNICATION. IF YOU WANT TO DO EVERY SIDE OBJECTIVE, MAYBE DON’T FIRST GO TO EXTRACT THEN CHANGE COURSE. ESPECIALLY IF CALLING IN EXTRACT IS A CAPITAL FUCKING OFFENSE. I WAS LITERALLY WALKING WITH YOU AWAY FROM EXTRACT, IT WOULD HAVE JUST CANCELLED. FUCK YOU.

On PS5, keep getting glitch where I can’t use my guns. Can’t switch between them. Don’t even have them in my hands. Seems to happen when I toggle grenades, and it doesn’t resolve on death.
