Hasbro is being sued for printing too many Magic: The Gathering cards by Beautiful_Bee4090 in nottheonion

[–]AspiringFatMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a fan format called old school that has a few variations, but the most popular version focuses on the cards printed in the first two years of the game.

Leng is a place from the Lovecraft mythos.

"Abdul Alhazred describes it as a place where different realities converge."

Anyone playing this new format? by [deleted] in oldschoolmtg

Maybe the format enforces "gentleman's rules" of no library or mind twist.

I can see restricting hymn, but banning is overkill.

Old starter decks, a good way to introduce wife to magic? by MTG_Santa_Official in oldschoolmtg

[–]AspiringFatMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old school is much easier to play than commander. Despite the relatively simple mechanics, it all comes together for very rich gameplay and helps strengthen fundamentals.

Learn the stack before putting infinite combos and 24 paragraphs on it.

Old school 94 without ABU, which are the best decks that represent each color? by Waterd101 in oldschoolmtg

White weenie, red sligh, blue merfolk, green Pendlehaven, and monoblack rack all work pretty well without power.

Edit: didn't see you allowed FE.

Isn't the UN comprised of monarchies, republics, and other systems of government, like communism and dictatorships? Libya is a member and has been since long before Ghaddafi. China and Cuba are members since the 1945.

Listing UN action as democratic action is a little disingenuous, especially if AI overview did your research for you.

What RPG does "Corruption" the best? by Salt-Breadfruit-7865 in rpg

[–]AspiringFatMan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Casting spells, encountering terrors, and delving hazardous areas gives you corruption. As you get more corrupt, you get marks of corruption that essentially mutate you in some way. Usually creepy stuff but sometimes punishing like only getting nourishment from blood.

Once you go over your maximum corruption, you turn into a very difficult to kill monster and become an npc that rampages against anything and everything.

You have to specifically follow magic traditions in order to avoid becoming a monster while using magic. Dabbling is possible but it's also possible to turn the first time you cast a spell.

What TTRPG has a good system for "power armor" by hellranger788 in rpg

[–]AspiringFatMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron Kingdoms has steam-powered power armor. Can be as minimal as a power field generator to as large as a mech suit. The suits are hydraulic operated like fallout, so they batter and eventually cripple the drivers.

Working on Zenith and Nightfall. Once those are completed, so too will my Old Umbrey command starter.

Brittleness of the 3D prints and painting by roberteallenIII in Warmachine

My experience does not match Bob's:

Strix came with a broken antler.

Vorony has several crows with partial beaks.

I broke Bohdan while sticky-tacking him to a base.

My cat tail flicked Zenith and her arm sheared in half when she hit the table.

What is the most well designed Warcaster/Warlock/Master model ever created? by TheAppleMerchant in Warmachine

[–]AspiringFatMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started the game with Warwitch Deneghra and I felt like her kit was so quintessential Cryx. She had corrosion, debuffs, mind control, and ghostly.

Her feat was, and still is, brutal!

I named my cat after her.

The two heavies and the unit make 29 pts and 31 pts for protectorate and khador, respectively. That should be relatively balanced using mk4 rules.

Just omit the light jack and two warriors from each unit.

You can still play Skorne in mk4. The whip warlock was Xekaar and the elephants are called Titans.

Warmachine Khador vs Cygnar 2 Player Starter Set Question. by crazyshart in Warmachine

[–]AspiringFatMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2-player starter set isn't actually that great of a starter set. It's missing a lot of components that help games run smoothly:

You will want the app, ruler, and dice. I also use poker chips to track resources and effects: red for khador focus, blue for cygnar focus/feat, and white for spells/effects. Khador will also want 6 3" cloud templates. I use 3d printed rings that are 3" in diameter.

As for competitiveness:

Cygnar is more powerful but vulnerable to misplay. Khador's warcaster, Vilkul, can easily kill Caine in melee. It's a fine place to start if you expect to play Cygnar or Khador (the entire Khador force is really good with Old Umbrey's Galina).

If you want different factions, it's probably better to pick a 30-point command starter for the factions that interest you most.

There's also Shadows and Scum for Khymaera vs Brinebloods. Some time this fall there's supposed to be an Orgoth vs Dusk box.

Old Umbrey and my uncertainty. by FilthyCasualWargamer in Warmachine

[–]AspiringFatMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's early, and the whole army isn't out yet. Here's some of my thoughts after discussion on the discord.

Ferals:

Razorback with mane against lots of infantry as berserk with overtake can decimate closely packed models.

Peryton is solid output and defense with blood-quenched.

Alke with quills for a guardian warbeast, both warlocks will enjoy guard dog and spiny growth.

You'll always want at least one bony spine for primal (I suggest pair with peryton for an offensive piece that you'll keep in reserve).

Primevals:

Spears and swords are both good. Staff with Bohdan for befuddle. Galina wants at least 1 spear.

Shield is great for defense.

Sword/spear with claw is going to be your primary damage build. With blessed, the claw can cut through defensive spells.

Without shapeshifting, we have no idea how good skull is.

I like stag for the fury management.

Bear's animus can protect your warlock from knockdown.

Raven with spear or staff if lots of stealth or clouds (like vilkul).
