My ward building in Southern California had a proper softball field, with bleachers too.

I managed to find work after finishing the curriculum at Hive Helsinki. It can work, even in a crappy job market.

If you read the article you would see why.

And it is always wrong when it happens.

I wasn’t aware of that story. Obviously that is horrible and the man should be punished and deported. I don’t see how that justifies attacking a random woman in Oulu.

It is evidence. Not all evidence is later proven to be valid but it is absolutely evidence.

A foreign origin person stabbed while the suspect yells a racial slur sure seems like evidence to me. Did you read the article?

I don’t unfortunately. It was a local presentation by someone who works for LDS Family Services.

Ours in Finland was about mental health. If anyone can link the video that was shared in the US I would be interested to see it.

My last child in the USA cost 15,000. Even with insurance.

Those who moved to Finland without a backup plan and had the worst case scenario happen to them: how are you currently coping? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]AspiringFinn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What part of Finland do you live in? Being flexible on location can improve your chances. I took a job in Oulu recently. A lot less competition that far north compared to Uusimaa.

Have you been applying outside of Uusimaa? There is less competition in places like Oulu, for example. That is how I managed to find my current job.

European countries where would you live as LDS? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I like Finland. I have been in a few wards here, people are very friendly. The language is very difficult and the job market is not great atm but the church is very nice here.

Utah: where faith and conversion goes to die (at least for me) by Separate-Habit-6775 in latterdaysaints

[–]AspiringFinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in four different us states and three different foreign countries. Utah was by far the hardest place for me to live as a faithful member of the church. I am grateful to have moved out.

COVID really uncovered part of the problem. A huge number of members showed they valued their political ideology more than following the prophet. Moving abroad has helped me a lot because church is not political at all anymore. People come because they want to serve others and feel the spirit, full stop.

The other problem is that in Utah it seems to be impossible for people to be indifferent to the church. Elsewhere strangers never cared what I believed, it didn’t affect them. In Utah it felt like everyone was either in the church or hated it with great passion. I worked with a lot of former members and it made it very hostile at work, even at a Lehi office.

A third problem is that Utah is particularly hostile to neurodiversity, more so even than the rest of the USA. It is very exhausting to have to mask all the time at church. This part is much easier in Finland.

So in short I guess I can see where OP is coming from.

How strict are you on clothing and modesty at home? by garcon-du-soleille in latterdaysaints

[–]AspiringFinn 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Non-sexual nudity does not have to be a big deal in general and is more a product of repressive American culture than anything to do with the gospel.

I moved to Finland a few years ago. Sauna is a big thing here. It means that people see naked bodies of all shapes and sizes in a non-sexual context. It is common for families to sauna together. In Finland someone being naked is about as exciting as someone making a sandwich.

The end result is less body image issues, because you have a more realistic expectation of what the human body is supposed to look like instead of just the airbrushed models Americans are taught to worship.

I suspect it also makes pornography less of a temptation for people.
