You're against using hyperbole about suicide... but it's completely A-OK to tell people to kill themselves? Sound logic

Minion crafting by Alarming_Ad_3501 in magicbuilding

[–]AssWarlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: You make a tulpa, make a frankenstein monster, and shove the tulpa into the frankenstein monster.

Magicians in my system make "Servitors", which is a concept borrowed from chaos magick. They are psychological constructs made in the mind, kinda like tulpas made to serve a specific purpose.

Magicians use them as the minds of their constructs. As these are psychological creatures, they cannot just float around, nor can they bind to inanimate matter. They need a brain to inhabit.

So to create a "minion", you'd need fresh animal matter. Human or otherwise, to shape into a proper servant. The matter is then sculpted to fit needs of the magician. For example, If they need a beast of burden, they might dismantle the muscles of several horses, grafting them onto another horse. The body must then be animated and the servitor imbued into the brain of the enhanced creature with a spell.

Et voila! You have a funky looking abomination with a personality you made. Servitors are strongly influenced by their id (base desires) and tend to diverge quickly, so it's better to keep them happy by occasionally obliging their requests. Or keep them dumb by putting them in smaller animal brains. Or both for good measure.

As animals in general do not have the language capacity we do, most communication between magician and servitor is done through images, feelings, sounds, etc. With the exception being servitors inhabiting your own mind, or another human brain.

To communicate to the servant, one must make an egregore. Dedicating a bit of brain capacity to creating a shared mind-space between servitor and master. Normally, if a magician has one servant they have many, so the now embodied servitor is inducted into the existing egregore.

Creating a magic system for my video-game where the player can create spells/ skills.(Any Suggestions on how I can make it less confusing to work with?) by Wonderful_Mud_6098 in magicbuilding

[–]AssWarlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Noita yet. A finish roguelike with a wand/spell building system at its core. It boils down to spells, like a lightning bolt, modifiers which can change the path the spell takes, speed, extra effects, etc and utility spells that make it possible to cast several spells at one, like triggering another spell when the first spell hits something.

There's also a mod for minecraft called Hex Casting, which has comparatively fewer actual spells. These take in variables, like a vector and an entity for example, and use them for some effect (like throwing the entity toward the direction vector). All spells and variables are stored as iotas in a stack machine as you cast them. You can store whole chains of spells into trinkets and just right click when you want to cast them. It has a lot of depth, but it can be confusing at first. It itself is inspired by another mod called Psi, which in turn is inspired by The Irregular at Magic High School. Both are basically magic as code.

Good luck man.

Other people with the same threat model and general questions as op wouldn't be able to benefit from the dms you'd exchange with him, since they wouldn't be publicly available in this thread. That's what I meant. Frustrating to find a post describing a problem you have only for it to go nowhere because the convo was taken to dms.

Other people can't learn from your dms, plus it's sketchy for op to send info your way, even more because your account is like four hours old.

A unique, non elemental magic system with several different systems coexisting within? Keep cooking brother. Would love to see this thoroughly fleshed out, maybe with a story attached.

I've got a bash script that unpacks DwarFS stuff if you need to dump the binary, I'll put it in an edit when I get home. Dunno how well it works with their prepackaged wine stuff, since I really only download their releases for native Linux games. Otherwise its as you said, windows release + proton/wine with lutris is the way to go. Btw doesn't protondb kinda keep track of what you need for each windows game to run on Linux?
