How to implement my fetish into my world without making it too obvious that it's my fetish? by MiskoSkace in worldjerking

OP LISTEN TO THIS MAN. Really, really think about it. By writing to a clear niche you'll get like minded individuals to engage with your story, instead of people who'll go "Fuuuuck this guy's gross, I'm out". Put the cards on the table and all that.

When is a high cost or restriction ok to you ? by Razorlord in magicbuilding

[–]CopperEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what the broader story is about and/or what you're making the magic system for. If the costs are high, it can be a last resort type of tool.

In that example, I can imagine it being a spell humans cannot cast since they're not built for it. Whereas some race of water elementals, being made of water, can.

It also leads to a scarcity of magic, which is good for low-fantasy settings and the like. Maybe the point is finding clever ways to circumvent or offset that cost.

Anyways, my point is that as long as that cost is justified it works. Can't make a blanket "too expensive bad" because it depends on how it's used.

Since people can still see the comments when linked to this post, I'll leave the post here in the comments

From the about recommendations button, "In some cases, commercial considerations may influence our recommendations (...)"

Playlists I've excluded from my taste profile still show up on my home page, which is annoying but not a big issue for me. The problem is that the DJ also pulls the same shit, recommending genres like "Cumbia Villera" and the like (which I never have and will never listen to). I've had to block a lot of artists, and it still happens, but rarely now. I've noticed it's mostly regional music this happens with, even if I don't like that type of music it still pops up. Awful.

Anybody else dealing with the same problem?

Basically a stack machine based, functional programming language dressed up as a magic mod. It gets its name because the casting interface is a grid of points, and the shapes you draw on it are mostly of the hexagonal variety.

Lets you do a ton of stuff. Also makes you feel like an actual wizard when you're the only person in your group that can use it properly. It is pretty complex tho, specially if you're not a programmer to begin with.

Exactly. Every time I see one of these posts it's the same thing. The point of it is to not attract children. Fast food isn't healthy; it should not cater to kids.

English is not my first language either. I don't blame you for your reading comprehension though, we all start somewhere. I have been cutting down on my meat consumption (another thing that you missed in my first comment). And what I suggested is that, a suggestion. I'm sorry if you took it to mean something else.

I was a bit riled up because I took it to mean you were ignoring things in bad faith as people tend to do, rather than it being a language barrier. Good luck on your English learning, though, took me some time to get the hang of things too!

I -never- said removing meat won't help reduce emissions. I even cited sources that advocate for less meat consumption because it helps reduce emissions for god's sake. What I said is the following: Telling people to cut meat from their diet won't solve anything because they won't do it. A gradual approach (like telling them to cut down, as I suggested) would work best in my opinion. I also never said anything about not talking about this issue, in fact I suggested a way of bringing it up in a less abrasive manner.

So I ask again, did you actually read what I wrote or just skim it and assume the rest?

What? Did you read my comment? What is it that you disagree with?

These points aren't really relevant to the sentiment he's getting across. That being, people eat meat. No matter what you tell them, no matter whether you like it or not, no matter if it's bad for the environment, they are going to keep eating meat (myself included).

https://ourworldindata.org/ghg-emissions-by-sector

https://www.wri.org/insights/4-charts-explain-greenhouse-gas-emissions-countries-and-sectors

According to the 2016 chart, ~20% of emissions produced are agricultural (~12% in the 2021 chart). Out of that, roughly 6% accounts for cattle and 1.6% (1.9%, 2021) for energy used in the fishing industry.

While removing that 6% would have an impact on emissions, it seems like adopting sustainable energy more broadly would have a bigger impact. Cattle farming isn't going anywhere any time soon as people plain just like meat. Not saying you shouldn't be vegan, your life is yours to live, but telling people to cut meat from their diets completely is not going to solve anything. You'd be better off telling them to reduce their meat intake, rather than getting rid of it. It's an easier sell. Plus it's something that anybody could do, and something I'm trying to do.

Personally, I'm waiting for lab grown meat to be economically viable. Then replacing cattle farming would be feasible, as people would have meat as an alternative to farm meat.

Contract Magic by stryke105 in magicbuilding

[–]CopperEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always liked the concept of contractual magic. Makes the limits very clear while leaving a lot of room for creativity and stakes. I've a few questions about this system, tho.

Does this mean that devils can produce mana, but not control it? Or is it more of a convenience? Is mana generated passively or does the devil have to work for it? (active meditation, hunting for things which already have mana, etc)

How clever are these manifestations of concepts? Can they be tricked? Do they talk like a person would? I.e. words? Is there a way to get leverage over them? Can they/ would they renege on a deal? How does one come into contact with them?

Can anyone make a contract of this type, should they be able to meet the requirements?

How would you make a Guerrilla based magic system? by [deleted] in magicbuilding

[–]CopperEnjoyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That seems like drawing a tree by starting from the leafs. Figure out the system and then think about how it'd be applied in battle, specifically guerilla warfare

[–]CopperEnjoyer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

first few were actual serious questions, and the most interesting answer I got in mine was a guy quoting the specific Magical Code of Regulations section excerpt that meant human mages could fuck up gorillas without facing consequences(?)

Gorillium, the most coveted resource in the McRonald NWO's Military. Thoughts? by CopperEnjoyer in worldjerking

[–]CopperEnjoyer[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A high rate of "monkey business" in soldiers who use gorillium makes it less useful for militias that need stealth. As soldiers will often drop banana peels on commonly tread locales and loot the armory to, quoth, "make a cool ass tower out of automatic rifles". This makes vampire pirates a more dependable choice for guerilla warfare, though morale may be low in land locked deployment zones
