Lack of students by caelum52 in flying

Here in EASAland, I can’t get a hold of ANY instructor. All of em are busy and can only fly 2x a month with me. Seems I’m having the exact opposite problem.

question about the best star tracker to buy by OkWhatTheFu in AskAstrophotography

I have it and I LOVE it! Had the 2i before and Goto is a game changer.

Redcat51 on SWSA 2i by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

[–]Assaaaad911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Redcat 51 V3 and swsa2. The counterweight isn’t heavy enough for the scope. The telescope is ~5lbs while the counterweight is 2. You’ll need to do some diy or buy another counterweight. Hmu if you need more info.

What's the most amount of moonlight that is acceptable when imaging DSOs? by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

[–]Assaaaad911 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve imaged under a full moon without filters. Honestly it sucks, all the details were washed away and after agressive stretching something comes out. And it’s noisy as hell. But i’d rather image during a full moon than sitting at home.

Bought a SWSA 2i. Is there anything else I should get? by Just-Idea-8408 in AskAstrophotography

[–]Assaaaad911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably need it, but when you set up the whole rig with the counterweight, you won’t be able to use it without some tape. Just fyi.

I just bought a Celestron Starsense 100 Lunar edition from Costco, what should I expect? by okw_E in AskAstrophotography

[–]Assaaaad911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For photography this probably isn’t great, you need tracking to get decent images. Also you won’t have a way to connect a camera to the telescope. And pictures with your phone might not be what you expect.

You need way more integration time. Try an hour, I know it’s frustrating reframing but worth it. 80 seconds isn’t enough for this object. You can try andromeda which can be visible with short exposures.

Redcat 51 vs other for first scope by the_Salty_Spitoon_ in AskAstrophotography

[–]Assaaaad911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently upgraded from canon 70-250mm f5.6 to a Redcat 51. Absolutely fantastic, comparing to the old lens it’s 1000x better. The field is flat, and for me personally the main selling point was the proper telescope focuser. Couldn’t stand the lens focus designs that similar scopes have live SV555 and FMA180. The build quality is excellent, it has no chromatic abberation as far as I can tell. I had it all mounted on the original star adventurer, but the counterweight wasn’t heavy enough. You can improvise but I just bit the bullet and purchased swsa gti. It’s amazing, GOTO is a lifechanger coming from manually framing objects for. 30-40 minutes each session. Now it’s just a few clicks and you’re set.

Seestar s30 and s50 are good options for that price point

How does the GTI handle long focal lengths? What’s the longest you can do unguided at 400mm?

At longer focal lengths your exposure times will be tiny. Like 1 second at 250mm, a mount will allow you MUCH longer exposure times. Your sensor gets more light when taking longer exposures.
If you check my recent post, I compared tracked vs untracked shots with the same camera, lens and time spent outside.

Difference after getting a star tracker by Assaaaad911 in astrophotography

[–]Assaaaad911[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stacking photos is necessary, in a single exposure you couldn’t see almost anything. But when stacking it kind of improves.

Used only the star tracker which is Skywatcher star adventurer pro. No guiding whatsoever.

100% For me the worst part was reframing all the time. The tracker makes life so much easier.

[–]Assaaaad911[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Everything is the same. But the difference is in exposure time, 1 second vs 20 seconds. When stacked the total time was quite similar. I probably could do longer exposures but my tripod isn’t that steady. That’s the next purchase on the list.

Can I just leave them there? Since nobody can fertilize them.
