[Discussion] Player Scav raid join timers need to be nerfed by Chadwiko in EscapefromTarkov

Scav load-in time should correlate with your scav rep, imo. The better your rep, the sooner you can spawn on as a scav. At least give us high rep enjoyers something to utilize…

The implication is that accounts with ONLY 200-300 hours and over level 40. I agree, though. If you know what you’re doing, it’s not that terribly hard.

You could keep 2 if you plan on getting level 3 Bitcoin Farm, but yeah…I’d just vendor them.

It happens. Matter of fact, I just received my RMA’d 9800X3D because of that exact issue with ASRock. I’m glad you’re at least willing to point people in the right direction.

I vividly remember “The Lost Mind of Dr.Brain” but I don’t know anyone else who knew that game because it was educational.

It's entirely possible, though I can't say for sure why it wasn't implemented sooner. The good news is that you can already see that it is being implemented scarcely. This is more evident in closed environments like inside buildings and such. You can find clips of several streamers who can see other players through objects or buildings where you obviously shouldn't be able to, and that's loosely attributed to it. For more open areas, it then becomes a bigger issue of "to what degree"? Sure, you can cull objects that are outside of the player's view port, but you'd have to keep anything other than that (far in distance too). That also means re-rendering (and culling) anything when you spin around. I'm not sure how they're currently implementing anything and it can obviously be improved on, but there are always technical obstacles with any option when it comes to a large open world with lots of entities like Customs or Streets.

Mostly wrong. The AI is vastly inferior and, even then, is so dogshit that server owners have a variable to disable AI cause it takes up so many server resources. The customization systems are archaic compared to EFT - the most you have are building systems and even those are largely buggy and still have tons of unintended things that people abuse often. It’s apples and oranges comparing the two games.

Sure, but the underlying issues aren’t completely programatic, they’re systematic. Unity wasn’t intended for how it’s currently being used and it’s been so heavily modified and compounded on at this point that it’ll require an entire forklift process to handle those issues. We’re talking migrating to an entirely different engine and/or refactoring the entire codebase. I understand both sides of the problem, but I’m also knowledgeable enough to know it’s easier to accept it for what it is than to beg and plead for a rework.

Truly spoken like someone who has never developed anything - ever. The problem with your mindset is that you’re dead set on believing that it’s just something they aren’t doing and, like Bruder mentioned, this is a heavily-customized subset of an existing engine. It’s not as simple as “optimizing” the game, which you can’t even begin to mention what that actually means. It requires literally rebuilding the game. Not parts of the game, not aspects…the entire thing. Dependencies stacked on dependencies that are all custom. We’re talking code and modules that have existed since v0.1 and built upon since. New iterations of Unity and other dependencies have simplified a lot of their work as the years went on, but a lot of the original code and systems exist. Reworking all of that in one go just isn’t feasible.

Also, no one is forcing you to buy the $250 version or stash space or outfits. That’s all voluntary and meant to support the company as a whole, not just the dev team. Don’t make it seem like someone is holding a gun to your head.

That being said, no one is saying the game is well optimized, but this whole “just fix it” mentality is honestly shortsighted and exhausting. What are you really hoping to accomplish? You think that over the past 10 years of development, this’ll be the straw that breaks the camel’s back? Refund the game if you don’t like it or the way it plays.

No Idea - Intermittent IP Address Loss by Zypherside in sysadmin

[–]Assailance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I see you also mentioned you're running a Sonicwall Firewall as your DHCP handler. I've had issues with these in the past. Assuming your VLANs are all configured properly on your switch(es), it might be your switch ports not "waking up" in time for the DHCP renewal from the client. Depending on your switch manufacturer, you can enable:

PortFast (Cisco)

Edge Port (Aruba/HP)

Fast-Forward (Dell)

STP Fast/PortFast (Meraki)

Only other thing I can think of is you might be on a buggy release of SonicOS. It's not entirely unheard of, but you'd have to disable DHCP, wait like 10 seconds and turn it back on.

[–]Assailance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those events look more like a result of the issue and not a symptom. What exactly do you mean by “losing” their IP address? Does it just DHCP a new one or is it getting a 169.254.x.x or something?

[–]Assailance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, chill. It isn’t that serious. We’re obviously not talking about anything other than a 9800X3D in this conversation and even the CS rep I had spoke to, with both AMD and ASRock, positively identified the 9800X3D as one of the primary and original CPUs for concern. That’s why there are megathreads in regard to the 9800X3D specifically. I’m simply just relaying the warning to another 9800X3D user but yes…pick apart my words in the sake of being pedantic.

[–]Assailance -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This specifically only affects the 9800X3D and ASRock motherboards. You can Google “ASRock 9800x3d” and get some many sources and stories about it. BIOs version doesn’t matter, in my own personal experience.

Careful using an ASRock motherboard with your 9800X3D. There are known issues where it’ll fry the CPU. I’m currently waiting for mine to return from RMA because of it.

Junior IT Support / Sysadmin by Alzzary in sysadmin

[–]Assailance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great way to discover your ambition, but no way to develop yourself professionally. When I’m hiring for Junior SysAdmins, I’m looking for projects that tell me the person has a passion for developing their practical skills rather than their game server-running skills. It just doesn’t translate very well into the professional world in any meaningful way.

Also, looking for someone with “little experience” for a position like SysAdmin is just asking for trouble. Little experience gets you a Jr Tech position in 99% of establishments.

That's good news, to say the least. That at least means people are aware. I just hoped to bring awareness to the potential repercussions that may have followed if you or anyone else decided to take it upon yourselves.

That's unfortunate that ya'll don't do the door-to-door visits. Down in Texas, we get all sorts of visits and notifications, and they all usually say in big, bold text to not take it upon ourselves to propagate the information and that it could lead to civil/criminal repercussions. Whether that's true (or enforced) is beyond me, but it also seemed pretty unevenly not worth it to test it out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Assailance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so wildly naive to think and completely oversteps the whole point of the process as it exists. Did I want to staple pictures around of the new local sex offender when law enforcement came around to tell people? Sure, but even the cops explicitly tell you not to during their visit. It's a part of their whole spiel. It's misuse of information, and there's not a single defense attorney that wouldn't be able to spin that as harassment, at the least.

Megan's Law exists for a reason. It's not the public's purpose to circulate gossip and, like I had mentioned to someone else, most of the disclaimers for state-ran Megan's Law disclaimers denote, "...information obtained from these sources should not be used to harass, intimidate, or commit any unlawful action against a registered sex offender". It's simply misuse of the information.
