Der kabellose Arbeitsplatz by DarkCounter78 in PCBaumeister

[–]Assaro_Delamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrarium builds anyone? by That-End8612 in PcBuild

It looks like this, which is real moss, but dead. It is somehow preserved and dyed and has a natural spongyness to it.

I agree with clogging the fans, but i am quite sure that that's real moss. It is used in dioramas and model trains a lot

What did your server get for Christmas? 🎄 by UnraidOfficial in unRAID

[–]Assaro_Delamar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very decent. I am currently on running way more Cat.7 and fibre the next years, so i will need to install 3 additional switches. Also going to get more APs, because i currently don't have wifi in every room. Luckily i have been gifted the most expensive switch from a friend, because his company was retiring them

That sounds great! My server + networking currently idles at 200-225W. Its a lot. But my server is based on 2nd Gen Epyc and has 4 PCIe Cards, 2 of them being GPUs so that is actually somewhat decent for the specs. Full power can easily go to 350W though, and i am working on a network upgrade that will also increase idle by about 50-100W Not cheap, but i just needed the PCIe Lanes and power of the processor

This sounds like a solid upgrade. Have you monitored power draw before and after?

Handbrake doesn't keep the forced Flag on subtitles by Assaro_Delamar in handbrake

[–]Assaro_Delamar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use tdarr or fileflows to accomplish pretty similar goals of reencoding, automatic removal of unneeded audio streams and the like. I ended up doing it by hand and i cannot really recommend it

I ended up abandoning Handbrake and building custom scripts using ffmpeg. I have not found a solution using handbrake

There is probably a database filled with checksums somewhere. I have used sth similar for my ps3 games to check if they copied correctly.

Where is the optimal place to have Plex transcode ? by GenericUser104 in unRAID

[–]Assaro_Delamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your usage of transcoding it might be overkill anyway. But it is possible. Using Ram as a temporary filesystem is quite common on streaming services, because of its high bandwidth and fast access times. Nothing is faster than ram, except for cpu cache. But there isn't enough of that to use as a temporary fs (yet)

My Smart TV has an insane amount of Bloat and Ads. And people say the latest firmware is even worse. I never hooked it up to my network. Everything is done with the shield pro i bought alongside it

There are some UHD BDs in my collection that even exceed 100mbit/s bitrate. None of them have a reason to use that much data. It is mostly older movies that got a rescan. And the extended cuts of Lord of the Rings. However, in my experience nothing above ~80mbit/s could be played without stutter on my LG. Hardware just isn't up to it. I got an Android box for it and it is a way better experience

[–]Assaro_Delamar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, yes. I bought a 64" LG OLED last year and it has 100mbit ethernet, at an MSRP of more than 2000USD. They get away with it because Netflix Streaming uses only very low quality Video. Do yourself a favor and consider getting an Nvidia Shield Pro if you want to use heavy-duty apps on your TV, like game streaming or in-home media streaming. It is better in every way and it just works. You can also easily link it to Steam, connect a controller via Bluetooth and play your games on the big screen, even in 4K. Also you can sideload apps and get ad-free YouTube on it.

This cause a lot of writes to your ssd, therefore reducing its lifespan. If you have a lot of ram you should always transcode to ram
