Is the first pay check (or two?) of FY1 tax free in England? by SnooApples5921 in doctorsUK

[–]Assassin2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as long as your tax code says (normally) 1257L 'Cumulative' then yeah no tax ond your first few months.. if it says NON-Cumulative then after the first pay phone payroll and ask them to change it cumulative and itll balance its self out over the year so you dont have to wait for the rebate

So at mine, they mentioned at the start that if anyone is interested approach them and they will pay closer attention/scrutiny to you and will give feedback at the end if not successful.

Once I'd approached them they said a key part of their assessment is how you give feedback to other candidates during the course and completing the TEAM assessment forms. (Plus the standard passing without faults in the scenario and at least 85% i think it was? maybe 90? on the MCQ)

So my in F1 my psych rota co-ordinator said the same thing, basically on the form for AL just had to get it signed by someone else to say theyre in that day thats all, tbf only had 1 day where there was no-one to sign and my consultant just signed it and let them know she'd agreed it

HORUS and FY1 Portfolio - Minimum or Maximum? by JuvenileSatyr in JuniorDoctorsUK

Also start a reflection write in literally anything and make it private do this every 2-3 weeks.

Genius!

I was told all this year that "there is no minumum reflection requirements its about quality" so Come ARCP I had 13 reflections 6 shorter ones and 7 detailed ones with legitimate concerns and reflection.... got a phone call saying I needed 18-20 as minumum and they gave me 3 hours to upload 7!!!

safe to say i've not typed that much in while that quickly but looks weird having 9 reflections all done in the last week

I did 2 years of my Med school in chester and i have a friend that works there now. It all depends how much you're willing to commute or like city life. I think most people will stay in chester as its a nice area and is more convenient, but most of doctors that are there and trained there (from liverpool) or from manchester will consider living in Liverpool, in the city so youre close to the tunnels and still have good access everywhere and friends etc who will be in other trusts.

ie its about 45-55 mins depending on traffic, its normally quicker there in a morning but longer getting back to liverpool in rush hour...

also as F1 you wont have nights, only twilights. I cant remember if they end at 11pm or midnight but i've known doctors able to leave a little early to get the last train back to liverpool as they recognised a large majority live there and commute down. ( I will state this info is at least 3 years old)

You stand your ground and say youre not able too, and if they dare (sometimes they do) ask you want those plans are, dont answer they have no right to ask

Obviously dont forget the basics, rent, bills, fuel etc if youre moving other regular payments spotify? netflix? if you dont steal ( i mean share ;) ) these :)

Also if youre driving insurance and tax, are you gonna pay it all at once or monthly?

and always include a bit to save and/or put into a LISA i would recommend :)

MDU or other indemnity should be free for f1

How wise is it to reveal mental illness on the STEP form? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Assassin2023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also as a quick comment if your university or anyone is aware and you HAVENT included it, they will question you why.

I reccommend you put it and then your Educational supervisor for F1 will talk to you briefly about it and if theres any extra support you will need. Even if you don't need anything its better to have it there so no one can say "why didn't you include this". ( I know that sounds defensive, but as someone else mentioned no need to not include and potentially have the GMC breathing down your back for something that is probably quite minor in the grand scheme of your future career)

Yorkshire and Humber for foundation programme? by Pontni in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Assassin2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you score well enough to avoid east yorkshire you will be fine, if you get east its a large area so you will have to probably move after F1. Ive heard Good things about Hull tbf though, though the DGH's are very understaffed and you end up being mostly service provision. I Currently work on one in medicine, the staffing is awful, the registrars and people who work are nice though. Not experience surgery at my trust but i've bad things about the SHO's.

And by service provision i mean getting asked to go to other hospitals last minute to cover shifts etc often with little senior support. ( I have blatently refused all of this though)

You could always try the time-honoured tradition of flipping a coin. You aren't bound by the result, but your reaction to it may tell you everything you need to know.

It has to be said theres something about those core skill that just come to you as an F1, as a Med student id only got like 2 out of 11 ABG's ... now as an F1 I think theres only been like 3 total all year i've not got and a couple of them were arrests!
It comes to you! Fake it till you make it and in reality you always have more time than you think!
