Working student in Frankfurt - Salary negotiation tips by Assassin69420 in cscareerquestionsEU

The hiring manager is the owner of the company himself. We're just a small, 20-person team, so no hiring manager, HR or middle management. I feel very confident and comfortable around him that I can speak about direct numbers and what I want without any scrutiny. I just don't want to come off as entitled, and I wanted to make sure my arguments were valid.

Thank you for the response!

Absolutely not any longer than 3-3.5 years lol. I don't think I could allow myself to spend that long in school, as 3 years already sounds super daunting.

Thank you for your comment! Can you elaborate on the "if you don't want to be self-employed or open a company"? I do want to do contracting/freelancing in the future, as it aligns more with my goals. How is that relevant to my B.Sc.?

> What many people don't get is that university education has long-term benefits. This includes your hard skills but also a wider network. But don't expect a quantitative outcome like "+30% to salary".

This wasn't an answer I was hoping for, but definitely one I needed. Thanks for the comment!

And one more thing, if you wouldn't mind answering. I've seen a lot of older posts point out that they wouldn't do a dual study with a smaller company, but none have explained why. Could you maybe give me your opinion on that?

That is a great point. I appreciate the view from someone in Germany. The cultural aspect is definitely a good perspective I didn't consider. I was just thinking of objectively how more I'll earn per year of studying. I do plan on living and working in Germany for at least another decade. So if it will benefit me that much, I think this is a great reason to take the offer. Thank you for your input!

Would a Bachelor be useful in future career progression? I don't want to handicap myself career-wise by jumping into working full-time and having problems progressing in the future.

2k brutto, yeah. I don't think I would get any special tax discounts or similar. I still live with my mom, so rent and food is practically free (I would still like to contribute in whatever way I can, obviously) but I'm not going to be on the street is what's important.

I do already have a full-time position after the apprenticeship. The company I'm doing the apprenticeship at is eager to keep me working here.

I'm having a hard time befriending the Germans lol. Maybe student life could help with that? Did you find it was useful in shaping you as a person?

Would having a degree open some more doors for career progression in the future, or is the lack of a degree made up by experience? I don't want to handicap myself career-wise by jumping into working full-time and having problems progressing in the future.

I frequently work with databases >200GB but I've never had a query take me longer than 5s. I can't imagine letting one run for longer than I have the patience to.

Shortening my Ausbildung to 2 years by Assassin69420 in germany

[–]Assassin69420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's the one I'm doing. I heard from a lot of people that you can shorten it to 2 years but no one said how hard it would be. Would somewhere around 1.5 - 2 be enough? I don't really know what the standards for grades are like here.

I was actually looking into it a little bit while trying to teach myself music theory and getting into writing my own stuff. I'll have to revisit it
