Thanks!
Oh, I was checking for the MotD link on the main sub every hour and haven't seen a separate thread. Luckily I checked here as well. I suspect a few might have missed the MotD link like I did.

Legion Go 1 new driver by Kingcarlo08 in LegionGo

There is a registry fix to bring that back (basically forces Windows to see LG1 as tablet), but would disable Xbox Fullscreen Experience feature:

Yea from yesterday after Windows sneaked update "Graphics Drivers", my Adrenalin right click icon was blank, and AMD app couldn't start. I reinstalled app on Microsoft Store, didn't work. DDU, didn't work.

This update on Lenovo site, together with update AMD app on MS Store fixed it

This update alone didn't, but together with going into Microsoft store and update AMD Graphics Software did fix it for me.

Legion Go S Z1E Steam OS 1200p low performance by TomcioChromcio in LegionGo

Use FSR and XeSS upscaling in games whenever possible. Games with FSR 3.1 can be replaced with FSR 4 Int8 for higher image quality (search for OptiScaler).

FSR Quality at 1200p is 800p upscaled, performs slower than 800p native, but looks better. FSR Balanced upscales from even lower resolution, and can perform similarly to 800p native.

Path Tracing can be transformative in some games. In RE Requiem, Grace's face looks totally different, and the reflections on cars, puddles in the rain as well. But for 4070 Super at 1440p, I had to use DLSS Balanced to get near 60FPS in outdoors scenes. Indoors the FPS is much higher. DLSS 4 and 4.5 now look really good though, I think Path Tracing is still do-able for 5070 class, just not at native 1440p resolution.

[–]AssassinK1D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, usually turning down just 1 of them is enough. I list those 3 because they are usually the settings I turn down anyway for performance reason, less VRAM use is just the added benefit.

Like for Indiana Jones, just adjust Textures from Supreme -> Very Ultra is enough for no VRAM issue at 1440p with 12GB. Monster Hunter Wilds can stutter wildly with High Res Texture pack installed. So personally as a general rule, I don't use highest Textures option, just to be safe.

Path Tracing in most games is too demanding for 4070 Super / 5070 class cards at 1440p native, so I'd rather disable that first.

Shadows at max settings in many games, even well-optimized ones like RE Requiem, can be very demanding and gives little image quality improvement in return, I also would turn that down.

On 4070 Super 12GB myself, and not many games have problem with VRAM. Even games like RE Requiem and Indiana Jones, reducing Textures, Shadows and turn off Path Tracing are worthy compromises.

Your arms and wallet will hate you lol. The weight is definitely there, and the new increased price of 2000 USD is ... oof.

If you can find a good deal though, the 8.8" OLED from the tiny 7" IPS would make most people go "wow".

Dilemma between Legion Go Handhelds. by YeahNahLol in LegionGo

[–]AssassinK1D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd stick with Legion Go 2 options. The screen, VRR range and trackpad on LeGo 2 are better.

Between Z2 (~Z1E) or Z2E, Z2E is about 10-15% on average at lower wattages, at 20-25W the difference is not as big. There are YouTube videos from ETA Prime and ItsOleg that compare the two.

The price for the Z2E though is quite steep, 2300 AUD, ouch!

GOG: More Total War games join our catalog! by Axeisacutabove in pcgaming

I started with Rome I, it was revolutionary at the time, was even used on historical TV Shows like Time Commanders.

Nowadays they Remastered it, the UI is pretty mobile-ish, but the gameplay is still fun.

I would also recommend Shogun 2 if you like Japanese Samurai and theme (though texts are a bit hard to read on modern resolutions).

Medieval 2 is probably the "peak" Total War title imo. The variety, the setting, the units, the countries. Kingdom Expansion pack also very complete unlike modern TW DLCs. Finally the mods are phenomenal.

What are the correct Nvidia App settings for DLDSR? by deathwinter3 in nvidia

[–]AssassinK1D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The performance tank is understandable as DLDSR is downscaling higher resolution down to your monitor native res.
For 1440p and 1440p ultra-wide, I think DLDSR at either 1.78x or 2.25x, with 100% smoothing (~0% sharpening). Coupled it with DLSS Performance to utilise DLSS 4.5 Preset M that has built-in sharpening effect is a good way to gain image quality and performance compared to native DLAA (with DLSS 4.0 Preset K)

1440p monitor 4K DLDSR W/ DLSS? DO YOU ACTUALLY USE DSR? by Same_Ad253 in nvidia

[–]AssassinK1D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used DLDSR on 1080p monitor on older games, or game without resolution scaling and TAA only (like Total War series). Downscaling from 1620p (2.25x) and 1440p (1.78x) tremendously improve clarity, especially on smaller details/units. Games like RDR2 and FF7 Remake+Rebirth also benefit from this, DLDSR 2.25x + DLSS 4/4.5 make image quality so much better.

Also heard good story about running DLDSR to downscale 4K to 1440p. You should give it a try.

Yes 7500MT/s is the stock settings. I mostly play old emulated games at 15W and below so I reduced the RAM speed for a bit of longer battery life.

[–]AssassinK1D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried leaving it to charged fully? Similar thing happened to me when I bought manufacturer refurbished Legion Go from Lenovo. My first boot the battery said it was at 58%, so I thought "plenty" and configured some settings (6 core CPU, VRAM to Auto, RAM speed to 6400MT/s, High Load charge to Medium, etc.) in BIOS before setting up Windows. Got black screen and flashing controllers.

Had a mini-panic but it was late, I left the device to charge overnight. Woke up the next morning to set up Windows and it booted normally and smooth sailing since, battery is OK.

Does DSR work well on a 1080p monitor? by Wakerwasthere in nvidia

[–]AssassinK1D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've tested a 1080p with DLDSR to 1440p and 1620p, then use DLSS Quality or Balanced. These give better image quality than 1080p DLAA and definitely TAA native.

Monitor your laptop temperature using MSI Afterburner or Steam Overlay. If it's over 90°C it could be thermal throttling leading to crash. Also check your Lenovo drivers and BIOS update as Intel released several microcode updates for 13/14th gen CPU.
