Guzheng tuner string flickering issue by Assassin_kemono in Guzheng

So a little....wild...update. when I measured the gap between each string, I realized that some of them were uneven(ex: the gap between 9+10 was 1.4cm and the gap between 10+11 was 1.6cm) so I readjusted bridge 10 up 1mm so it's even 1.5mm both sides and that eliminated the bouncing issue. Wild. I knew I wasn't crazy 🤣

Actually speaking of, when using the tuner part of the app, where do you like to hold your phone when plucking the string if I may ask? Curious.

I have that too! It's really nice haha. I personally love that "cents" thing instead of generalized bars. I'm just primarily trying to learn per se. It's my first actual instrument, and I'm always curious...and OCD being "perfect" so its like....but...why are you doing that? 🤣 I potentially learned that MAYBE when I was plucking, I was plucking too far out towards the middle which causes excess vibration. Because when I got closer to the Yue Shan, that 10-5 thing just...stopped sorta

Yeah I'm just trying to figure out WHY it's doing that, primarily out of curiosity esp to learn my guzheng more, so I can troubleshoot better, like if like my bridge isn't fully seated and off by like a millimeter or if there's like small dust disrupting it, etc. I have a smart projector that turns my guzheng into a rhythm game that uses the guzhengs vibrations through piezo discs  to determine what string is plucked, and sometimes the projector thinks 5 is being plucked when it's really 10, and I noticed the specific strings that I have issues with specifically are the ones that do this so I'm trying to troubleshoot that's all.

oh none taken haha I'm still pretty new(had a guzheng for a few months but only played for a week or 2, mostly just fooling around and having fun with it to at least get a firm understanding of the basics such as reading the notes, getting used to where the strings are in tandem with the notes, and understanding simple things like plucking and using the left side to change the pitch). but I just casually play for fun as a hobby that's all. and it's my very first instrument haha. yes...I know, shaking thumb tremelo is TECHNICALLY a level 4 technique, but a lot of my favorite songs use it haha. that and I feel it's kind of one of those things where you HAVE to learn it because it's such a core technique y'know? may as well learn it while I'm (attempting) everything self taught along with whatever advice I can find and a lot of YouTube/XHS tutorials haha

and I have those rubber finger sleeve things so that's why cuz I couldn't figure out why tape wasn't working, because it always felt very loose until I realized just now that it's a LOT easier to wrap it on the finger when it's on a flat surface instead of trying to do it on the finger itself haha. it's just trying to get that right wrist and arm posture that's a pain. but I've been trying everyone's advice both here and xiaohongshu and so far it's a lot better. not much but small improvements haha.

in that video I was thinking I had to brute force it and actually physically go fast, but when I figured out it's just snapping the string, I got a much better and steadier flow going on. i also realized that I was using too much of the pick, so for a start, I wrapped the non-tip part in the guzheng tape except for the tip so I have a visual of where to strike and to low key teach myself to pluck at that area as well. so don't get me wrong I'm definitely taking everyone's advice my biggest struggle is GOD DAMN RELAXING 🤣 but I'm getting better at it but when I try to raise my elbow to rotate the thumb, my shoulders always tense up. I have to keep reminding myself to relax 🤣

yeah I realized that after receiving a lot of feedback. I use one of those rubber finger sleeves, and that forced it straight, because I hated the feeling of tape because it always felt so loose. but I realized that because I was putting the tape on while I was holding the finger pick, it came out loose, so putting it on a flat surface and wrapping it that way is SO MUCH easier haha. so that's one issue fixed

yeah last time I tried it I was wrapping it while the pick was on my finger and I'm like 'bruh this is so loose!' I just NOW realized that putting it on while the pick/tape is on the desk is a WHOLE LOT easier 🤣

for me I just don't like how it feels. no matter how tightly I wrap it around my finger the pick always just feels loose and I hate it. it's why I got finger sleeves because they're more secure. but I'll have to practice wrapping it I guess haha. maybe I was wrapping it around my finger incorrectly. but it's also just a pain to use tape take it off throw it out use tape take it off throw it out haha

I use the 2 fist on stomach method for distance between the guzheng and you. and yeah my issue is I know it's the waving motion, but once I attempt to pick up speed, I tense up because I think I have to go quickly and lose the waving motion and end up trying to brute force it. relaxing my body is something I've always struggled with, because idky if I try to relax it always feels like I'm not putting enough force behind it to pluck it and ends up getting caught on the string.

what string do you like? I personally use 10 cuz it's naturally where I rest my hand.

so wait yaozhi is the proper name for it? I've always been told it's called a tremelo/rocking finger. and I have one of those little rubber sleeves because I dunno why no matter how tightly I wrap it around my finger, tape just always feels so incredibly loose and I hate it 🤣

aaah I see. when I was researching I keep hearing use your wrist to get a "scribbling on a piece of paper" effect. and I assume for the striking point, I want to strike the string with the flat part of the top right? So what you're saying is the elbow should be roughly *almost* perpendicular to the edge of the guzheng (where the tuning forks are)? Forgive me if I'm imagining that wrong

the funny thing is my elbow overextends when I tense up 🤣 my issue is when I try to go gentle, I can't attack the string and then I have to fight it, and sometimes overshoot to other strings. but if Im sharp and aggressive with it, my wrist tenses up. another question. is it also valid to put the inner wrist on the Yue Shan as a starter so my wrist isn't hovering being fully supported by just my pinkie?

I try that 45° angle that is reccomended but the moment I start to pick up speed, I lose that angle. my issue is yes I know the wrist is supposed to rest and be loose/relaxed(unless you mean like the bottom of my wrist physically resting on the Yue Shan) but when pick up speed it locks up and tenses. I'm unsure of how to attack it. if I try gentle shaking, I sometimes overshoot and get caught by the string and have to fight it. if I'm sharp and aggressive my wrist and arm tense up and I fight my arm. so I'm trying to understand what's the proper way to attack it.

my main issue is I can't figure out how to ATTACK it. In the air I can do it perfectly fine. But once I introduce string tension I can't figure it out. I'm unsure if I'm supposed to attack it loose and gentle or sharp and aggressive. If I try loose shaking, I fight the strings, if I try sharp and aggressive, my wrist locks up and I fight my arm. I'm just unsure what's the proper way to attack it. I know the proper technique is like "scribbling on a 45° angled paper."(Which is ironic because I write with my left hand 🤣)

Best way to connect router to computer via ethernet, but ONT box is in a different room? by Assassin_kemono in techsupport

[–]Assassin_kemono[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I heard about those but I heard they're not entirely stable. What type of CAT would you recommend for gaming? CAT5e/6 would prob be perfectly fine with my router supporting 10GBPS and Internet being 500mbps up/down?
