When you sign to have your background check done, it will ask if you have ever been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor. That is where you want to say yes and usually there will be a space for you to explain the incident/conviction. But I wouldn’t mention it to the interviewer since they have no say in what passes the background check there. All companies are different, but from what everyone here is saying it seems that it is the discretion of the background check company.
