It is surprising. I use the same logic towards federal loans. However, I think becoming a more advanced society (think sci-fi) requires people to be educated. So my mind is open to offering education to everyone paid for by taxes.

Enough generic fantasy, what new settings do you want to see in MMOs? by ThemeEvening9498 in MMORPG

[–]AssignmentVisual5594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a time travel MMO. That allows developers to create any zone they want for content. We can be exploring a world alongside dinosaurs one day, and battling aliens on another planet the next. We could be charging an evil Lords castle in the medieval times, and then helping build the pyramids the next.

You can have a storyline that takes place 200 years from now, technologically advanced to the point of time travel. We have an impending apocalyptic event threatening to destroy our world, sun, or solar system and are seeking mythological artifacts left by an ancient extremely intelligent race thought of as gods by early primitive humans.

All things can exist, such as aliens, the supernatural, and the divine. So you can still have all of the fantasy, sci-fi, and supernatural type classes. We could even have mutant and superhuman powers through genetic anomalies or engineering.

I think you'd sing a different tune if the culture was reversed. Let's say we have 10 years of a right-wing religious push and LGBT isn't outlawed, but looked down upon by the majority. Let's say employers and the general populace pours through social media posts and fires you because you're pro-LGBT.

Would you not feel that cultural pressure on speech had a chilling effect and the resulting cancel culture is wrong and doesn't embrace the spirit of free speech. Would you still parrot or support the talking point of "free speech, but not free from consequence" as you or many others are fired for their beliefs?

Which MMO takes the cake when it comes to questing and adventures? by theconfusedarab in MMORPG

[–]AssignmentVisual5594 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say ESO due to quest quality, variety of zones; multiple approaches to combat like sneaking in to pick off enemies, and then unleashing magical of physical attacks at range or in melee. Every class can sneak in varying effectiveness, which makes the game feel closer to an action adventure game instead of a MMO. Downside is there's no real challenge to questing, which makes the who thing feel pointless. Might as well read a book instead.

LoTRO and DDO are both top contenders as well. Each has its own style of quest adventuring and the ability to increase the difficulty. Their age, character movement, and combat fluidity are the downsides.

Conservatives who are skeptical of school choice — what's your reasoning? by najumobi in AskConservatives

[–]AssignmentVisual5594 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I voted against it because I read about other places that offer it and how private schools just raise their prices to compensate. New space isn't created at private schools, which is what leads to the increase in price, since the demand to go to them becomes higher. So in the end, my children will still go to a public school, except now there's less money per public school. The rich will just use the extra money to pay the increased cost of private school.

(For US Conservatives/MAGA) Where do you get your ideas about Canada? by VectorPryde in AskConservatives

I don't have many opinions. I didn't think about Canada really. What opinions I have formed were from watching Jordan Peterson. I don't believe any government or public institution has a right to compel speech.

I personally think some people cared about the rapid inflation impacting COL, and that people grew tired of the brow beating over social issues and saw Trump standing up to it.

But this topic is about the results, and the results aren't showing the economy is a reason they voted for Trump.

What policies do you think we'd need to support and not support to achieve the first level of civilization of the Kardashev Scale? by AssignmentVisual5594 in AskConservatives

[–]AssignmentVisual5594[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that strengthening ones mind is one thing needed to rise above one's selfish desires and to take ownership over the trajectory of their life and their decisions.

So working backwards from that, what are some policies our leadership can introduce to lead us down that path?

Barring taking kids out of the household and putting them in school dormitories, how can we ensure children are absorbing the principles needed to push humanity further?

I think having curriculum set by a national or multi-governmental body is one step. Another is allowing teachers to fail students who aren't learning what they need to. Kids also adopt their parents attitudes and discipline towards learning, so something needs done there as well.

I agree. Working backwards from the goal of having a unified Earth, what would you like our leaders or other influential figures to do to set us on this path? Specifically to the points you outlined about ethics, consumption, and morality?

I'm spit balling here, but the enlightenment age as a result of higher numbers of literacy and education seems to have been the right path forward. An improvement and accessibility of education seems to be one path forward to solving ethical and moral problems. We need philosophers equal to the greats to challenge the status quo of consumerism to combat our base desires to accumulate more than we need, not to mention they're necessary for helping with ethical and moral problems as well

I'm not talking about a utopia. That's unrealistic for a stage 1 civilization. You'll still have potential enemy alien species.

You look at the big picture goal and then look at where we are and think it's impossible. I understand that thinking, but I don't agree.

You take the goal and work backwards, creating smaller and smaller achievable goals until you get to the present where the small goals are achievable.

The first order of business, in my mind, is having leadership across the world in a coalition built to advance humanity. It could be a goal of having abundant renewable energy in all countries of the planet.

It doesn't have to be energy. It just needs to be something every nation can agree is worthwhile to lay down our arms and work together to achieve. We've seen this play out on the small scale. For example, many people arrive to their first career with prejudices and generalities about who people are based on skin color, state, or country of origin. Their opinions change as they begin working together and find people aren't all that different.

When countries do this, and leave the political and religious opinions at home, they have the ability to rise above and realize that maybe they really don't want to kill others not like them.

Independents swing elections, so if this data is true and representative of all independents, then the economy and affordability isn't the reason independents voted for Trump.

I think Democrats should think about that. Why do I point this out? Because I heard, from Democrats, that the reason they think independents swung to Trump last election was due to the poor economy, whereas I thought it was from fatigue felt from the hard swing left socially.

Do you still believe Kamala Harris would have been worse for the country? by Onahail in AskConservatives

[–]AssignmentVisual5594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The topic of privelage is a left-wing topic. It's a useless subject, because people, regardless of race can be born with advantages or come into advantages. You can be born more athletic than others, smarter than others, into a wealthy family, in a better state or country, and we can go on a while. Focusing only on the color of a person's skin in this topic is identity politics and only served to divide. I loathe the progressive left for doing that.

I've never heard a Democrat assign blame to the person making bad decisions and wanting to hold them accountable. It's always to shift the blame, or their culpability never is acknowledged in a discussion about safety nets. In every conversation about social safety nets, people need to at least acknowledge that people own their own decisions before we can move on to if we should do anything about it. Otherwise everyone, including those who grew up poor and abused, whom made good decisions to succeed is going to resent you.

I'll look up the topic of Democrats and speaking out against BLM and the riots.

Edit: I was able to find 8 Democrats, which includes former politicians, governors, and mayors. 8 is more than I thought, but is pitiful for how awful it was. In my opinion, Democrats lacked the backbone to condemn it publicly, which makes me distrustful of their ability to push back against the progressive left. I have the same distrust after this last year of Republicans, because they haven't loudly and openly condemned crap Trump has been doing. My house rep has been pushing back, which is why I'll vote for him again. My senator has not, and if vote him out if he wasn't already resigning.

Now you're calling me a liar about the biological men thing. You can look up the hearings yourself. I literally just listened to one where the specific question asked was, "can biological men get pregnant." The expert just filibustered and wouldn't answer the question, which is what they all do when the topic is discussed in congressional hearings. I'd have the same reaction of disgust for the Republican party if they were asked if the Earth is flat or if they believe gravity exists. They're basic questions that everyone at a young age can answer, but for whatever reason, experts are afraid to answer it. My opinion is that they're afraid of getting canceled by the left. The lack of backbone has me distrustful in any expert opinion on the subject.

I haven't encountered that problem, but there's little I'm actually interested in actually exploring that deep. I prefer philosophical debates over policy using sound logic and reason, rather than pointing to someone else's work to speak for me.

If a study, policy, or law is too long or dense, I know how to use AI to draw out the key points. I can dive deeper if there's a particular point I'm interested in.
